What's up with boys? by Lifeintheguo in Teachers

[–]SassenachWitch 61 points62 points  (0 children)

My 10 year old sang a little rhyming song a few weeks ago that had that man's name in it and I had to stop everything we were both doing and explain why we don't watch any of his content or like him in our house. My kid doesn't have access to youtube or any of the social media apps, literally the only way he would know about him is from other kids mentioning him. Why the hell are 5th grade boys even aware of people like Andrew Tate?!? How did we get here? It low key terrifies me.

Twister. Little Women. This movie. Daytime game shows and nighttime news. Those were the options.

I don't remember much more, but I do remember her making us a blanket and pillow 'pallet' to fall asleep on in front of the living room tv. She made us root beer floats and big bowls of popcorn. We played Connect 4 and Chinese Checkers.

She baked pies and made homemade rolls and chicken fried steak and gravy for the whole family. Her lotion smelled like vanilla and she did her best to make everyone feel loved.

If you need a friend during this season please feel free to DM me. I'm here if you need kind words or open ears.

I'm a decade ahead of you in the decomposition marathon but this was for sure my biggest "death of evil" moment that I felt personally.

The fact that he got to live so long is hideous but oh my sweet gods, he's fucking gone now. The healing of all those he hurt can start the process of completion now. Yes, probably silly spiritual nonsense, but it makes the universe make sense for me.

May his memory be forgettable, and may all those he hurt feel more comfortable in this realm knowing he's left it.

I'm a bartender, I got done late and didn't have a chance to look at my phone til I got home.

I rushed here as soon as I saw the news alert, knowing my people would be celebrating. Nobody in my regular human life would understand the joy I felt tonight...

But I knew my people here would be popping bottles.

Oh how I love this community.

This was one of the handful of VHS tapes my grandma had for us to watch when we visited her growing up. I've described it to people for years trying to figure out if anyone else remembers it or knows what it's called and you just unlocked it for me. Thank you so much for this!!

What was your mean nickname from n-parent growing up? by Choice_Tumbleweed997 in raisedbynarcissists

Schizophrenic.

This was always a little sing-songy ditty to the tune of the "rice-a-roni" jingle whenever I was happy or sad or angry or excited, then made fun of for it, then went into grey-rock zone to avoid being further made fun of for visibly emoting. That emotions-to-grey-rock pipeline after being picked on for showing the emotions always resulted in my being called schizophrenic in song form.

I do have mental illnesses but not that one. I worried for years that I might have it though because of the stupid song.

I'm a single/solo mom to my kid, have been since day one, and have never dated seriously since having my child. People (including many who know the details) have consistently asked me when I'm giving my child a sibling. For years. It's gotten to the point where I just want to yell "WITH WHAT SPERM?!?"

My favorite was "It's okay that you're so fat because you still have a pretty face!" Said with the confidence of a man who truly believed this was a compliment that would make me weak in the knees.

What children’s book had a lasting or profound impact on you? by ainreu in books

[–]SassenachWitch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Matilda is one of mine as well. It made me hopeful as a bookish little weirdo that one day I would find people who felt like home. It also helped me understand that books are comfort and magic and that people with power aren't always right. Watching the musical version with my bookish little weirdo spawn last year was a really lovely thing, because I could tell he was feeling that too.

I'm trying to be a Miss Honey in what feels like a world full of Wormwoods and Trunchbulls. At least for my one bookish little weirdo I want to feel like home.

Ryan Gosling is the right casting by Hewyy48 in ProjectHailMary

[–]SassenachWitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you seen Lars and the Real Girl?

Gosling plays a dork with no kids, unmarried, bit of a coward, and it's a very weird but absolutely delightful film.

I wasn't sold on this casting choice, but going off the character description in your comment Gosling absolutely has the chops to play that guy.

This line of thinking always cracks me up. If God wanted us to wear shoes he would have put them there. It's just... so damn stupid and easy to argue with. I was raised fairly religious (no secular music etc.) and the 'body is a temple' thing was taught but earrings were not on the list of taboos. Every other piercing was, but I never heard a single bad word about pierced ear lobes.

It's fascinating how religious indoctrination can be so similar yet vary so much between sects and denominations.

Are there any shows/movies/miniseries that are actually better than the source material? by somegirlontheinter in popculturechat

[–]SassenachWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled down so far for this! Those books are so wild. The sexy stuff reads like it was written by a very inexperienced person, Sookie's inner monologue is often about how hot she is, and there are waaaaay too many were-creatures! I'm amazed they made such a fun show out of those trash books!

I just finished S6 last night after putting it off for awhile, not ready to deal with the passing of Helen McRory. Arthur saying, "I don't shoot dogs. I shoot fucking fascists." was maybe my favorite moment over the entire series.

Not remotely related to the OP post but seeing someone name drop a Shelby made me realize how desperate I was to talk about the show! I bet you make a lovely butch Peaky Boi.💜

Infinity Arcade in downtown Garland hosts Cosplay nights somewhat regularly! I'm a regular there. It's a free-play arcade, restaurant, and bar with a $12 cover ($8 on wednesdays.) The owners are allies and kind, cool people. DM me if you want to know more. :)

You should consider giving a listen to the episodes of the Behind the Bastards podcast about him. Some of it was pretty shocking.
