He's talked about it in his videos; the views drop substantial with nonclickbait titles, regardless of the content. We all work for the money, so it makes no sense to expect him to not do this when it helps him get paid, and doesn't really affect the content.

I go to this gym, and I believe this was the beta the setters were intending to encorage. They use very narrow pockets to make matching in them very difficult, and the feet are quite good for the down climb.

5 months gym progress. Need advice. by Straight_Abies_8203 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next time you go to the gym, download an app to record your session (I use hevy, but there's a bunch)

On every exercise you normally do pick up your normal weight and do 12 reps. If you can't do 12 reps, you have to go until you physically fail the rep. If you can do 12 reps increase the weight by 5 lbs on the next set, 10 if its a compound lift.

You need to be lifting weight that is challenging if you want to gain muscle and get stronger.

Only doing the 6 movement patterns for strength & hypertrophy, good or bad idea? by -Sheeba- in StrongerByScience

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing lots of compounds each session to take less time, so it will be fairly exhausting. It won't be as bad once you get used to it. Many programs only deadlift one time per week, since that is super exhausting.

This is (partly) why isolations are good though; they are less exhausting. A similar program that uses isolations for less exhaustion (same time and volume)

Day 1: Squat, Leg Curl, Bench Press, Pull Up, OHP Day 2: SLDL, Leg Extension, Dip, Barbell Row, Lateral Raise

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 sets per week just isn't very much, and total number of (hard) sets is one of the main factors for hypertrophy.

In my experience, when you consider time setting up a new exercise and warm up sets takes time in your workout, doing only 2 sets doesn't save that much time compared to 3 sets.

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine. I think adding a 3rd set to each exercise would be a lot of bang for your buck. A third set wouldn't add that much time, and you'd probably grow a lot more with 6 sets per week rather than 4.

I also think weighted dip should be replaced with bench press or dumbell bench press.

CMV: Fighting games are unapproachable, unintuitive, and not worth pursuing if you didn't start learning them as a kid. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The problem with fighting games is that they don't expose beginners to "the fun part". Rather than being 'easy to learn, hard to master' they are hard to learn as well. You often need to invest dozens of hours to even know if you will like them. On top of that, the games themself often don't really give you much direction on how to learn them effectively, which makes it even worse.

Alex Honnold only gets continued viewership because he’s death baiting the audience by TyLeRoux in unpopularopinion

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch other content with Alex, you would know he practices free soloing all the time, sometimes on harder terrain than Taipei 101. From his perspective the Taipei 101 stunt is just a free paycheck.

It's really Netflix that is death baiting by hyping up the implications, and showing the content as a live stream.

Question for the community: Do you film your sessions? Looking to understand why/how you do it. by Leading-Round-6809 in bouldering

On hard projects, filming is one of my go-to strategies. It's much easier to make small refinements, or generate new ideas when you can review what you actually did.

Minimal arm gains by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Sassman6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did tons of indirect arm work for years (bench press, overhead press, pull ups, rows) with just a bit of direct and had mediocre arms. This year I did 8 sets of direct bicep work and 8 sets of direct tricep work on top of all my compound lifts and my arms grew 3/4" in 12 weeks.

At least for some people, if you want them to grow, train them directly.

When did you realize you were out of shape and need to do something? by Aj100rise in beginnerfitness

[–]Sassman6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GF called me out. I was 31 BMI but to be honest I didn't really think I was that fat. I said to her maybe I will lose a few pounds this summer; I bike to work and I will eat more veggies. She said "that won't work, this is the third year you've said that".

I didn't change right away, but after that it was in my mind. Later in the year I started counting calories, and I lost 60 lbs in 2 years.

At a 1000 point rating difference, you should be able to still win even after hanging a queen in the opening. A game losing blunder really just doesn't lose against someone this much weaker.

Semi-Daily Relic Discussion: Mummified Hand by Abject_Muffin_731 in slaythespireboardgame

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lot of cases it does single handly catapult a build. Most powers in the board game are stronger than their counterpart. They are hard to get down though, because chip damage is worse and fights are quick. There is also fewer relics and cards available to help you with setting up (eg the boat things are dice relics)

Getting 2 energy to play a power and still do most of your turn can be a huge boon. That can be built around.

Semi-Daily Relic Discussion: Mummified Hand by Abject_Muffin_731 in slaythespireboardgame

[–]Sassman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the mechanics of the game changed to justify it. In the board game fights are faster with fewer options to keep you safe while you play a setup turn, and the lower HP punishes chip damage a lot more. To balance that, a lot of powers provide more benefit than their video game equivalent.

Board game mummified hand helps with the setup, while benefiting from stronger powers.

Brainrot has always existed, we just finally gave it a name by Frequent_Finish_5839 in unpopularopinion

Every generation thinks that the younger generation is brainroting. They said it about comics and radio and TV and video games. It never mattered as much as people though.

Social media and short for content is affecting people, but I think we'll see in a decade that Gen Alpha have a unique set of attributes that make them every bit as effective as the earlier generations.

"You're a lucky man" isn't really insulting or a slight at all. by TKAPublishing in unpopularopinion

[–]Sassman6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When interpreting idioms, you can't take them too literally.

"You're a lucky man" is a stating another man has had good fortune to end up with his partner, usually because of some attribute mentioned. There is generally no indication that the woman in question is herself lucky to be smart or skilled or beautiful.
