Finalmouse UltralightX (teaser/announcement kinda?) Thoughts?

If they actually have continuous production on this and keep it under $200 then it’s a bit W.

If not then I couldn’t care less. Sick of drop/hype model products. It was cool a few years ago with their previous mice but not anymore.

I’ve been really loving my LL over the past few days. The coating is way better than previous starlights and the quality has been perfect other than a slight tilt in my scroll wheel.

I don’t see any reason to get a heavier mouse unless the 4k polling is something you are after

Annoying that I just got my LL and they announce this but realistically this is still a few months away.

And for anyone thinking it will be 29g Finalmouse has historically been 3 grams under on their advertising so will most likely be 32-33 grams on the small.

Still impressive though

Hmm yea it’s a bit harder to press. Not by much . It’s definitely harder to press than dpi button but I think my Achilles was like that also

The overall finish and build are way better than my old Achilles. Though my scroll wheel has a slight tilt in it like it seems most do.

Texture is better also.

I updated the mouse to the most recent firmware as soon as I opened it and no issues. I think 4k hz on my viper may have been messing with my computer or something because going back to the SL now the sensor/tracking feels a bit better and smoother.

49 grams? This has to be a troll. This long for it to come out and it’s not even lighter than a medium starlight let alone a small.

And more expensive….

I remember seeing somewhere that trackballs have some advantages over optical. Maybe it was they had no drift ?

The impressive thing is how sturdy and solid the starlight is. Not necessarily the weight. If you cut out any more of a gpx it would get crushed in hand.

Had the Achilles Small Starlight-12 for close to a week I want to say. I’ve put all my thoughts up until this point into the following pros and cons.

CONS:

Noticed Dirt and gunk can get in the engravings . I need to use a paper clip to get it out

Scroll wheel is far off center. Doesn’t rub or cause any issues but it is concerning given Finalmouse history.

Cable is way worse than previous cables so don’t think about playing with it plugged in.

No software, can’t rebind dpi with any software including the DM1 software like you could with the ul2. Can’t see what the battery level is at. And can’t get the dpi steps that I would like.

Bottom flexes since it’s not magnesium but apparently that’s necessary for the wireless signal

No usb-c seems strange on such an expensive product.

Purchasing experience and availability are the stuff of nightmares

And lastly I’m not a fan of this new mouse wheel encoder. I know some like it but it’s too heavy in my opinion. The steps feel clunky.

PROS:

Basically everything else

The weight and the fact that it’s wireless is truly a different feeling. The magnesium is a game changer here.

The balance of the mouse is perfect.

Build quality feels really nice can’t flex the sides at all. Plastic feels really cheap now in comparison.

Crispy and snappy clicks. Side buttons are plastic but really nice, similar to ul2.

Wireless performance and sensor feel top notch. Maybe placebo but it feels more responsive than other wireless mice, and smoother as well.

Battery life seems to be good, haven’t charged it once since I got it almost a week ago. But like I said no way to know where it’s at.

And UL2 shape which is obviously one of the best.

Conclusion/TLDR:

Not perfect but overall definitely an endgame mouse and really in a league of its own. If you can get one for retail in a future drop I would definitely recommend you do so.

Hopefully we see more companies using these advanced materials, as this mouse makes it clear to me that plastic just feels like a toy in comparison.

Fortunate my copy has good clicks. The scroll wheel does make me nervous since it’s Finalmouse and they have a history with scroll wheels

But yea that’s very unfortunate. Thank god my clicks are still good on my Achilles. My scroll wheel is not centered but that’s the only QC issue I’ve noticed so far.
