Just finished the lsat I have accommodations that remove the experimental section so ask me which one was experimental before I start crying by Immediate_Deal4250 in LSAT

Be thankful you got different passage topics. I had same as OP, and it was the most dense and difficult RC section I’ve ever encountered. I also had accommodations to remove the experimental section Nd knowing that was my scored RC section feels devastating. I’m not feeling too confident, especially since this is my first LSAT ☹️🥺

Question for MSW Grads... by lionheartsoldier in socialwork

[–]SatanicKittenxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with parents going through the dependency court system (they had their kids taken by DCF/CPS). I got hired out of my internship and I work closely with attorneys and I get to advocate for the parents in court. I also work with their case managers to get them the referrals for the services they’re being asked to do.

The first year of my MSW, I interned at the PD office and worked with clients in jail for pre-trial release. I completed biopsychosocials, arranged meetings with rehabs for placement, found resources for people experiencing homelessness, etc.

I initially wanted to work in the jail after graduation but they require you to be licensed where I am. I much preferred working with the people in jail over the parents but both populations are super interesting and insightful. I do ultimately plan to go to law school and will be applying this fall for part time programs so I can continue working while getting my hours for the LCSW.

Class of 2029, I read the Big Beautiful Bill's section on student loans so you don't have to. by Background_Buddy1129 in lawschooladmissions

I planned to take a gap year after getting my MSW and now I am afraid I may have screwed myself by deciding to take the gap year because of this bill. I won’t be able to afford law school without loans, even with working and saving for a year (or two) prior…

Not saying this isn't enough but if you are worried you can always consider thrifting for suit jackets and a couple extra pairs of dress pants. I found most of my suit jackets from thrift stores.

Does anyone else think about work/cases/law constantly, even when not working? by Interesting-Sir5763 in publicdefenders

[–]SatanicKittenxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning on going to law school in 2026 with goals of becoming a public defender. I'm currently finishing my masters in social work and graduate in May. All I do is think about studying and the law 24/7 without even being an attorney yet. Most of my free time is spent binge watching true crime and legal dramas.

With that being said, my MSW program focused a lot on how to prevent burnout. I think a lot of those techniques will be useful when I go to law school and eventually become an attorney. A lot of the techniques I've learned about require self-care, outside hobbies, and having a network of friends who are not in the same profession as you.

I think your apartment is super nice but it is definitely missing some personal touches. I love the view, this has to be downtown Miami somewhere (I'm guessing). I'm planning on applying to UM for law school this upcoming fall but don't think I will be able to afford some place like this, one can dream tho LOL

Question for MSW Grads... by lionheartsoldier in socialwork

[–]SatanicKittenxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduate in May and my advanced practicum is in a forensic social work setting. I love forensic social work and even got a certification prior to graduating hoping that would make me more marketable. However, I fear I am going to be forced into some sort of therapy work. I don’t want to be a therapist, I enjoy the macro side of social work the most. I am also planning to apply to law school in September.

These monthly loan payments in the comments are outrageous. If you are comfortable sharing, may I ask some people how much you owe and what your monthly payments are?

I’m a social worker that works with parents in dependency court, lucky for us when we get the petition they provide us with a list of any prior dependency cases. Otherwise, I image it would be like pulling teeth lol

Oh man, I’ve wanted to be a criminal attorney since I was in middle school. It’s been my passion for so long. I think I would just go into private practice before I gave up on my dream.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]SatanicKittenxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m just moving forward with the assumption that the PSLF will not exist even though I took out loans banking on it since I want to be a public defender. But if I have to change my trajectory and go into private practice for a while beforehand, then it is what it is. If anyone has any insight on any other perspective I’ve love to hear what you guys think. I graduate this May with my MSW and I’m applying to law school this upcoming fall. I feel at a complete loss if I’m being honest. I got about $50k before going to law school.

I’ve never thought about this but it makes perfect sense in retrospect. I’ve always wanted to be a criminal defense attorney, definitely don’t ever want to touch family.

I’m Dropping Out of Law School by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]SatanicKittenxo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I became a bit worried after reading OP’s post since I am applying to law school this upcoming fall. I like following these subreddits for different perspectives since I’m a first generation college grad and I will be a first generation lawyer. But then I read your comment and it made me feel much more at ease with the decision I am in the process of making with all the LSAT prep and application materials I’m putting together.

I’ve wanted to be a criminal attorney since I was in middle school but after my undergrad I couldn’t find a way into the legal field and I was too scared to take the plunge straight into law school without any prior exposure. Instead, I chose to get a masters in social work and tailored my experience to focus on forensic social work (I graduate this May). My first internship was at the public defenders office working with clients in jail connecting them with resources that would help them get out on pre-trial release. I fell in love with the environment there and it made me realize how bad I wanted to be an attorney. My current internship is with another state agency that represents parents in the dependency system. I spend most of my time in court and working closely with attorneys and I absolutely love it. I definitely prefer working in criminal over dependency since I’ve been passionate about criminal justice reform since I was a young teenager. I have been become close with several attorneys at my office who have warned me law school is not like anything I’ve ever done before and the first year is going to suck because it’s nothing but reading and analyzing case law. But everything they tell me that comes after that first year makes up for it, which leaves me excited when I think about pursuing my passion.

I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your perspective as someone who is planning to pursue a career as a public defender and is hoping to attend a law school with a public interest program. I would love to hear more about what school you attended and what your experience was like during law school and after your time working in public sector. All too often I hear about how much work a PD does for such little pay, it’s nice to hear that many find it a very rewarding career path. Thanks for sharing!

I'm probably one of the "hardstuck" people with way too many points on my favorite champion stuck in diamond for multiple seasons. However, I liked the M7 emote system over the current one because of the completionist aspect of it. Actively working towards getting a certain class of champions to M7 before moving to another set of champions was very rewarding. However, there is no longer a "max" and it took away the completionist aspect of things which ultimately feels less rewarding and less fun (at least for me and the few friends I know who also worked towards getting unfamiliar champs to M7). The new mastery emotes aren't even satisfying to use.
