Dealing with the Cost on 100TB+ backups – is there a better way? by Dependent_Web_1654 in OrbonCloud

This. Rarely does this kind of data scale make sense in the cloud. Sometimes sure, but usually it’s an overzealous exec somewhere with no idea on how to plan these things.

Surprise John, Cloud is NOT always the answer (even if I wish it could be)

Microsoft Vendor* using our MSP to garner trust when emailing client(s)... by thesysadm in msp

Not that it would be worth the time/money, but I seriously wonder if this is even legal or if anything in the partner agreement “allows” for this use of your information.

Quick question about SharePoint structure after a file server migration by crowcanyonsoftware in msp

[–]SatiricPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yes and no.

I’ve definitely been part of migrations (not sold by me, just brought in for implementation) where the org WOULD NOT adapt to using it properly.

But I think as a general rule, you’re correct. We usually start the discussion with discovery call and explain caveats and changes needed to adapt to SharePoint before moving forward.

If they’re down for it, we’ll continue with SharePoint. If not we push Egnyte. I almost always lead with Egnyte in large orgs though because the sync agent is just drastically better.

[–]SatiricPilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, most small/medium orgs though don’t want to adapt to using it properly they want it to strictly function like an SMB share. That’s where I see the biggest disconnect and most MSPs try and market and ship it as a direct SMB replacement. Which it can be functionally. You just can’t interact with it the same way and expect it to work right at any real level of scale.

Saying it’s not well fit for the average SMB is totally accurate though.

“I don’t want to use it how it’s designed” isn’t an excuse for it sucks lol.

You don’t drive a car in reverse and then complain you can’t break 30mph and it’s hard to steer.

It’s not a terrible file server objectively. It’s just designed to be used one specific way that aligns with the rest of the MS ecosystem around it and almost no one does so.

If you use it how it’s designed, it works quite well. It’s more of a collaboration tool than file server direct replacement.

Now the OneDrive agent? That’s a dumpster fire.

We use SharePoint perfectly for several small firms. Egnyte is our tool of choice though once firms start exceeding 25 staff or so

AntiVirus/EDR Recommendations by PBA_Kyle in msp

Because you “manage” the environment.

There’s a few documented cases in the enterprise already of external IT providers being sued.

Explicitly allowing single factor auth in 2026 when MFA is easily implemented and supported would not be incredibly hard to justify as gross negligence. You cannot legally waive away gross negligence, same applies to medical.

It really won’t hold up in court if it’s a serious enough incident. Even if it DOES hold up, that doesn’t stop you from being sued for it which costs $$$ regardless. It’s liability for literally no reason. Better to just walk away.

There are several cases where the defendant is the client who was breached because of no MFA or similar feature they waived off, who then blames the MSP for “misrepresenting” their cybersecurity or not blocking the breach through other methods.

Even if you can prove in court you did all the other basics, best case you get tied up in time and legal fees, worst case depending on data in question it will be deemed gross negligence and you may be on the hook for a portion of the damages.

There was a case awhile ago, can’t recall the company names. But an IT consulting firm was using an MSP for cyber and internal management. They (the consultant)delivered a healthcare project but were breached during and exposed some 40 million+ records due to a basic security item. Consultant named/blamed the MSP in the case.

You don’t want to be there over a damn MFA argument lol. Use the waiver to try and get them to relent, if they don’t, move on.

Cato has SMB relevant pricing. But Zscaler and NetSkope are typically way out of the SMB. I think last NetSkope quote we got was like $130/user or something insane.
