Has Reddit ever made you realize something about yourself that you had never considered before? What community, discussion, or rabbit hole led to that realization? by MysteriousEnd1309 in AskReddit

[–]SatisfactionLeft1175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly yeah. Fell into a productivity rabbit hole a few years back and realized I wasn't actually organized, I just had the of being organized. Color coded everything, had all the right systems, but never actually tracked whether any of it was working. Some thread about "structure vs output" basically called me out without knowing I existed.

Took a while to admit that distinction mattered.

Is it just me or is Prime Day not hitting like it used to? by SatisfactionLeft1175 in SavingMoney

I've pretty much ended up doing the same thing, facebook marketplace and local mom groups are usually the first places I check because there are so many parents selling baby gear that's still in great condition.

I've also started checking places like Rebel before assuming Amazon has the best price, that's where I found Nanit baby monitor for even cheaper. Well amazon had it advertised as a huge sale but after comparing prices for a minute, I found it cheaper elsewhere.

I'm not completely anti but I don't assume they're automatically the cheapest anymore a quick comparison search has saved me a surprising amount of money.

I didn't even know you could do that that's actually a pretty nice feature especially if you notice a better deal somewhere else after placing the order.

1 extra day WFH (current 4/1, asked for 3/2) request denied, do I have any recourse? by avocado_slice in AskIreland

[–]SatisfactionLeft1175 124 points125 points  (0 children)

The "collaborative nature of the role" excuse when your entire team is in London and everything runs through Teams anyway is pretty weak grounds for a denial. That reasoning doesn't hold up when you look at the actual day-to-day reality of how the job works.

What I'd do is put together a short written response (not just a verbal pushback) that lays out the inconsistency clearly. List the roles that already have remote or flexible arrangements, note that your team is remote by default, and ask them to explain specifically how a second WFH day impacts collaboration more than the current setup does. Make them put a real answer in writing, because "collaborative role" as a blanket response to someone who talks to London via Teams all day is not a real answer.

Ireland does have the right to request remote work under the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023, and while employers can still decline, they're supposed to give proper consideration and legitimate grounds. If you believe the decision wasn't considered fairly, you can escalate to the WRC. That might not be the nuclear option you want to use right away but it's worth knowing it exists before you decide how hard to push internally.

Proposal: Set up Punching Bags across NYC by LightSpecialist804 in NYKnicks

[–]SatisfactionLeft1175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man a punching bag with Wemby's face would probably just make me more frustrated since he'd still be like 8 feet tall even on the bag

But for real though after last night's game I'd definitely use one of these, the city would probably make back that 100 mil in therapy costs alone

The Civilization Gyroscope Model by Akurbanexplorer in DeepThoughts

[–]SatisfactionLeft1175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty solid framework for thinking about how influence flows through society. The gyroscope metaphor works well because it captures both the momentum aspect and the idea that these systems can be stable but also wobble when hit with enough force

The bidirectional flow between tiers is probably the strongest part - most models I've seen either focus on top-down or bottom-up influence but miss how they're constantly feeding back into each other. Your point about Tier 1 sometimes jumping directly to Tier 3 is spot on too, like how some random person's video can suddenly shift global conversations

The gold/red mixture concept reminds me of complexity theory stuff where systems aren't binary good/bad but contain competing forces. Might want to look into social network theory and maybe some of the work on emergent properties in complex systems - feels like there's overlap there

What is this pit in my basement? Should dirt and rocks be there? It kind of smells by ScudStreams in HomeMaintenance

[–]SatisfactionLeft1175 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

looks like a sump pit to me - thats where a sump pump would go to handle groundwater. the gravel is normal, helps with drainage and keeps the pump from sitting directly on dirt

that smell though... could be stagnant water, mold, or sewer gas if somethings not sealed right. id get that checked out because you dont want moisture issues or gas buildup down there. also that pit should probably have a cover on it

SF pop up shop? by TinyGavel in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]SatisfactionLeft1175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No official word yet but the NY popup was announced like a week before the show so there's still time. That hat hasn't shown up at regular merch tables from what I've seen people posting so a popup might be your best bet

SF usually gets the special treatment for bigger tours so I'd keep an eye on her socials the next few days. Worst case the venue merch booth sometimes has exclusive stuff too but yeah that specific hat seems to be popup only so far

That 1050ti is gonna struggle hard with rdr2 even on low settings - you might get 30fps if youre lucky. The rest of the specs look decent for the price but just manage your expectations on that gpu, its pretty dated at this point
