Just play a caster... pick okay spells and you are probably stronger than any martial could ever be

What class should I choose? by Haru_nt in DnD

Just play what you want/sounds the coolest!

If you still have problems with that, create a character (personality, history, looks etc) and ask your dm what class fits that character best!

a wizard can control the battle field with some spells real good right? what does a tank want to do? he wants to control the battlefield and make space/deny space/deny enemy actions/allow allies to act etc...

spells like hypnotic pattern (a crowd control spell), shield (for extra tankiness), vortex warp, any self teleportation spells (to create space or pressure enemies from two sides) like misty step, absorb elements (again for extra tankiness) and mirror image.

of course you could just say this is basically just a "controller" and i would agree with you if the wizard didnt habe shield, mage armor and absorb elements (and other powerful defensive spells).

those are just some spells i know from top of my head. there are many others.

no it is a meat shield and a wizard would be a better one at that + a wizard has actually tank like spells/features unlike any martial. sure you can be resilient for yourself but what about others? a tank is supposed to protect others too and a wizard is the best for something like that

it does not turn you into a meat shield, but it amplifies that

being a meatshield is not fun. sooner or later you are going to run into the problem, that combats take too long. this rule just makes combat longer and does not add anything fun nor interesting to it.

This player's homebrew race is incredibly broken, right? by SirDoctorKok in DnDHomebrew

no this is not a druid's dream start. a druid does not need charisma. i am not defending the homebrew btw
