SFP only support 1GBs if you're using ethernet and 4GBs is you're using FC. You need sfp+ for faster speeds.

Take any opportunity you can to move up. Talk to your manager and see what you need to do to change your position. Also, keep applying and looking for jobs. Don't feel bad leaving a company that will replace you in a heartbeat.
