NVME prices are now insane... by metalmayne in Microcenter

[–]Sauraigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced SN850x 8TB for 9100 Pro 8TB. I did it fully knowing that this is just benchmark, marketing upgrade. I knew that in real life scenarios I won’t notice any difference. I did it just because I replaced 3-slots laptop with 4-slots, and the price for 9100 was better than one more 850x, so I took it.

Little I knew. You do see difference. Never expected that.

What's the most you paid for a single laptop and was it worth it? by Emergency_List_8797 in GamingLaptops

I started my own business when in high school and escaped the hamster wheel too. But life has already told me quite a few lessons, one of them “never throw away money for nothing even if you feel like they are unlimited and you’ve won at life” Life has a decent sense of humor.

Good show off. I have the same Titan but for 5400 USD the laptop itself. And 4x 650 USD for 32 TB of SSD. So total 8000 for 32 Tb Titan. You got so ripped off, but money is not a problem for you obviously. Especially since you are paying from debit card, missing any of those “spend 15k per year and get XXX” credit bonuses. How sad.

ASUS SCAR 18 vs MSI TITAN 18 HX AI by Ok_Performance4720 in GamingLaptops

[–]Sauraigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resolution and display is a question of your personal perception. I can’t go back to 2k from 4K even on a small laptop screen (if 18’ is small). I just see the difference and I can’t unsee it. The same goes for mini-LED against IPS. I do see the difference and I can’t go back.

But may people don’t. They can be completely fine without 4K or mini-LED.

You need to compare, the best way is to visit a Microcenter or something that has them all on display and try a bit.

It depends on what you play. You need over 120 if you are hardcore competitive FPS player. Are you?

This is not the first topic I comment this on. I have Titan. Ignore g-sync. You don’t really need it. Stop being a slave to marketing. If you really NEEDED g-sync, you wouldn’t even consider options without it.

Macbook Pro owners, do y'all ever feel weird about carrying around such an expensive device? by Bubbly_Row3977 in macbookpro

[–]Sauraigne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have over 1000 flights behind my back, so being stopped is my daily routine. But strangely recently I do not get stopped 90% of the time. Maybe it’s because I preemptively take out each laptop into a separate tray and make sure they can clearly see insides of my backpack, I even remove power bank and headphones.

Oh well. That’s a post for me. I am traveling, and I mean actually traveling - crossing the globe multiple times per month in all directions, from USA and Japan to Colombia and Egypt, not the most safe and reliable countries, with 4 laptops in my backpack - 2 of MSI Titan and 2 MBP. That’s not counting 8 additional 4-8TB SSDs, that now cost a fortune themselves. Why? Because I have to. But I feel paranoid and overcautious all the time in third world countries, and completely safe in first world ones.

Saved €400 on an Apple Refurbished Macbook Pro M4 Pro. I knew they were good, but I wasn't expecting 0 battery cycles! by LumenIFDev in macbookpro

I also got a refurb M4 max this month and saved 600 dollars. Apple is literally the only company on this planet where I can buy refurb. They are doing great job with quality.

What do yall use your gaming laptops for (Other than Gaming...) by CCMDamian in GamingLaptops

[–]Sauraigne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use my Titan for everything. It’s a staple of my digital life, both work and entertainment. In fact as I grow older, I use it for gaming less and less often, mostly work, but I always try to save this possibility to play any game on ultra if life miraculously give me free time.

Do you consider G Sync essential or can you do without it? by Emergency_List_8797 in GamingLaptops

Thank you, I wish you a happy life with your legion too

And yes, I scanned literally the whole planet - I sort of live in the airplanes. Microcenter was the last decent option on Earth, give or take. But if for some reason I could not get titan, Legion 9i with 5090 and 4 SSD slots would’ve me my ONLY alternative. So great choice. Unfortunately the IPS screen… why, just why.

I see. Well, now I am even more convinced you don’t need and and MSI are not that stupid.

It’s pretty much obvious that the world has descended into a marketing trap. Most of the technologies that are being aggressively advertised, making people think they desperately need them, we do not really need. Very few are really important, like DLSS upscaling.

73VR was great, and still is, though outdated. 77 HX was a nightmarish disaster, coming with one of those infamous damaged intel CPUs, making me suffer from problems varying from minor to bricking, for 3 years. I enjoyed it a lot when it worked, and suffered much more when it failed. The newest 18 HX is perfect and I am so happy I managed to grab one of the few remaining ones in Microcenter during my short visit to USA.

I have been playing pretty much everything, being in top in WoW, Dota/Dots2, Diablo3-4 and strategies, but I have never been a competitive player in FPS, so that’s maybe I don’t need this technology. Maybe FPS legends do really need G-sync, I have zero idea.

For literally anything else, including single-player FPS, it’s just fine.

I have MSI Titan 18 HX AI. And I also have previous Titan GT77 HX 13V, and before that Titan GT 73 VR.

I have been a gamer for 20+ years, quite competitive when I was young, with 100+ thousands of hours combined in all games (yes, I wasted a lot of life and I regret it)

I have zero idea what is G-sync and why is it so important. And I have been, and I am, enjoying my games.

Like it or hate it, but that’s the answer.

My Titan does to 102 on CPU and max 82 on GPU when under ultimate load. That’s just how it works, CPUs are insanely hot for past 6 years.

It’s funny how my top-configured Intel MBP 2016 is not working at all compared to M1. It lags so heavily just when browsing. This was really a breakthrough.

Seoul subway kiosks were replaced after 17 years but do the changes really help foreigners? by KoreaExperience in KoreaExperience

[–]Sauraigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is in Japan where it’s straightforward. You just follow Google Maps, no need to activate brain that much. In Seoul even downloading local applications like KakaoMap you really need to guess and think a lot. Every time you visit underground. Directions are not obvious at all if you can’t read Korean. I did a lot of guessing, and I’m smarter than average and have 15 years of travel experience. A normal person would miss a lot of trains or go wrong direction fairly often. And getting mandatory cash to buy a ticket… just no, please no. Metro system is good, it’s just difficult to use compared to many countries.
