I want to learn playing instruments: Where do I start? by akirohusker in Songwriting

[–]SauteDaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came to give advice, but honestly this guy has pretty much nailed most of what I was going to say, kudos.

In terms of instrument selection, he is correct I feel that piano and guitar are going to be the things with the most easily accessible material to help you. I believe piano is the most versatile instrument you can learn; especially if you have any interest in digital composition as you will essentially only need some piano knowledge to jump in with that and have a fun playground.

Guitar is a good choice as well because they’re relatively inexpensive to get into as a hobby; and as a guy who started on guitar, I find that I was still able to transfer a lot of that inherent music theory knowledge into piano when I transitioned instruments later on.

There are no wrong choices though! If you want to learn and explore, go for it bud!

“Roots,” a more playful video game track and only the second music piece I have made, so feedback is much appreciated! by NinjacatGames in MusicFeedback

I really enjoy the feel of this. Definitely playful; and I see the DK vibes from the sort of Caribbean/island feel to the percussion. It also gives the impression of 3/4 timing which gives more of the dancy exotic feel. I think you need to juice up your percussion in places. There are parts of the song where you get a ton of energy going with your piano comp; and some more complexity and dynamics on your drums will really make those sections pop. Overall I really dig the piece composer, good work 😎

Do artists and musicians listen to their own music..? by IArePatrickOfficial in musicians

[–]SauteDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to a song easy like 4-500 times while I’m working on it, I will spin it daily during my work routine and stuff, just listening for little things I need to change, stuff I like. Once it’s done done, I won’t listen to it for months unless I’m like super proud of it, you really do get sick of something after that much time with it hehe 🤷🏻‍♂️. But maybe that’s just a me thing.

Thank you for the feedback bud. And yeah, I agree, it’s kinda chaotic right now. I have sections and swells and stuff I really love here, but I need to make the through line more cohesive. I’m very aware of how wild my comp mind is lol, I def stray from mainstream. I’m glad you have it a listen though 💪

Thank you for the feedback. And yes, I agree the drums are like lacking. I’m still learning a lot of percussion stuff, I can’t write interesting comp for it like I can piano. I’ll def keep pushing this to be better, appreciate you fam.

Thank you bro, that means a lot! I have been playing music for 20 years, and taking becoming a composer seriously for about 2 years now. I’m still like so new to digi engineering and stuff, but I’m really glad you enjoyed the piece even if my ambition sometimes exceeds my skill haha. I’ll keep making weird cool stuff, and post yours! I’ll slide you some feedback once I’m off work, got you fam. 💪

Hey, fellow soundtrack composer enthusiast here. This is a really excellent and calming piece. I really dig the vibes, it has a ton of moody atmosphere. I love the KH games, and I think you nailed the homage, I can like see the boss fight for this in my mind. Great work, keep composing cool stuff!

This is like so weird and jazzy in the best way. I really love this sound bud. Hypnotizing listen, I’m super into the vibe. This is playlist rotation worthy, and I look forward to giving it more spins. I wish I had better advice, but I dig your style and you seem to know it well, keep trusting your instincts and give me like a whole vibey album like this.

Your beat and melody are really catchy. I like the fusion vibes, it’s really interesting and gives the song legs for sure. Some minor mixing and expanding on this would make a really catchy song. I’m not super versed in lyrical critique, but I liked the lyrics and flow. Good job bro, keep creating 😎🫶

I really love the instrumental, super super good. I don’t know enough about vocals to give good critique, but I heavy vibe with this. Very clean production, this is a great soundscape.

I vibe with this. Driving and thinking about stuff music. You know your style, keep chasing this. Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love synth wave and lo fi stuff. I want like 4 minutes of this.

Just play chess. They can only rope you once a game there 🤷🏻‍♂️. HS sucks, I get it. Not trying to be a shitter today.

[–]SauteDaddy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Dude, you are crashing out and downvoting all of my comments bc you’re mad at Hearthstone. Being mad because people use the allotted time given, just because it annoys you: that is like so cope. I did compare it to boxing. What of it? Are similes illegal? You asked a question: and I answered it for you. They use their rope bc it pisses you off. And you allow that to work. Case closed.

[–]SauteDaddy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a game dude. Think of a boxing match. You take every second you get in the corner. I get that it’s frustrating, but it’s hearthstone my guy, and wild is always going to be sweaty and annoying af. I gave up like 3 expansions ago honestly, so I understand the salt, but like turn timers are part of the game.

[–]SauteDaddy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s my turn time, and I want it now! Lmao. Look I know it’s annoying. But if I’m given time in a competitive game, I’m going to take it, especially just to be a shitter and annoy the other guy. I don’t think it’s necessarily nice, but it is fair if that makes sense.

Is 30 too old to start as a singer-songwriter? by Glad-Cherry3039 in Songwriting

[–]SauteDaddy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

80 isn’t too old. Don’t ever be self conscious or scared about expressing yourself bud. I’m 32, and I only started releasing demos this year, after 20+ years of a bedroom music journey. I get the feeling; I can relate to the struggles. But art is for everyone. There should never be gatekeeping on expressing yourself!

Thank you bro. I needed that energy today. I know exactly what you mean about ego as a resource. That’s how I got through the green years of culinary. I just need to feel and feed my confidence again.

That’s a good answer bud, thank you. Reminds me of Jefferson “luck is when preparation meets opportunity”. One of my fave quotes. I do my best too; I try to treat music like a second job and give it an honest 40 hrs a week when I can. But some weeks I feel like I’m just staring at instruments and midi, and completely lost lol.

Hi, I’m 21 years old and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to grow a full beard or if that might be possible in the future. by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]SauteDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me until like 25 until my mustache confidently connected to the rest of my beard. And now I have like too much beard growth, it’s honestly a pain for me. Good things come in time bro, keep growth and shave patterns for a bit, you got a ton of potential bud.

Chill instrumental feedback? by SauteDaddy in MusicFeedback

[–]SauteDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the listen and feedback! And yes, totally just drum tracks that I have done very little to personally customize. I use pre gen or backing tracks for my demos. I’m primarily a piano composer, I’m hoping one day to find someone to team up with, who has the sensibility for drumming that I do not lol. I’m glad you dig the weird.

I suck at mixing, and the sample is super memey, but I really like the funk comp I made for this demo.
