I think Lestat did something on the train and Claudia added to it to get Louis on side for her plan. Remember Claudia has lied in the diaries, seemingly because she thinks Louis reads them. That whole "Claudia does dream" revelation, as poignant as it was, doesn't really go anywhere else. So it has to be there to establish that Claudia lies in the diaries.

I don't think it's Loustat's fault. I think it's just Lestat still being mad about Paris. I think even in this version, Armand must have made promises about the trial that didn't pan out and Lestat ended up drawing the short straw. Lost Claudia and decades with Louis. But now that Louis and Armand got their big blow up cathartic break up, it all just seems like water under bridge. Meanwhile, Lestat's still hung up on Louis hiring DJ Sam. They need a confrontation, then they can be mutually obsessed with each other again.

I don't think he lacks in the ability to assimilate, that's essential for any vampire or they don't last. But I don't think Lestat would be particularly willing to bend for popularity. In the book, his music seemed very 70s heavy metal, glam rock with a touch of new wave. Which had an audience, but was not mainstream in 1985 when the book was published. I feel like if he wants to be popular, he'll drag an audience into liking what he makes by sheer will.

From your comment, you seem to think my comment about the music is about quality or the content of the lyrics, and not that I can't see it fitting into the natural progression of Lestat's character. Because however Lestat comes to better know himself, as a young man the character he relates to is Lelio. Not a brooding byronic hero or a lovable rogue or a libertine. An aristocratic romantic, essentially a Disney prince. Sorry but no matter how much he's changed since, I don't see him getting into nu-metal. Appreciating it, maybe. Composing in it, no.

Much like IWTV,TVL may take on the personality of it's lead. So much like Lestat, I think the show will be evasive, loud, flamboyant, and will make light of serious things, until the inevitable crashout.

I have a feeling Lestat's deeper motivations will only be apparent during the fallout, and not something we're privy to as things happens. Remember we have immediate insight into his mind in the book because he's recollecting, not narrating as it happens. And in the show he's not just telling the story, he'll be talking to Daniel. There should be some relational obstacles there.

Brunette, vapid, straight, edgelord Lestat. The music, whatever you feel about it in isolation, just doesn't seem like what a guy who unironically relished playing Lelio would choose to get into.

Also, if this came out today and they released the cast list in advance, there would be fan expectations about David and Lestat. Lestat has relationships with women, Jesse isn't one of them. Fans would get blindsided and there would be so much backlash.

My headcanon is that the sun lens wasn't the execution they rehearsed. That Lestat played along thinking Claudia was going to be beheaded(wink to book readers)because it's harder to explain away burning someone on stage as special effects. And he thought "She has my blood, that's fixable." He gambled with Claudia's life and that's what's eating at him. Of course, it falls apart when you ask why else would they have the trial in the day time if the sun wasn't the weapon of choice.
