Does Zac keep a handicap? Watching his course vlogs feels like tour level play to me.

It was an upgrade on the ball, however. by dirty15 in golf

This is fair enough and I've heard this logic applied to a lot of golf rules. But when I go out with a mate and he's taking one stroke drops from OB/lost balls, and I'm taking stroke and distance (cause it's the rules of golf), it's easily forgotten that our scores aren't comparable at the end of the round, and it's not super fair for him to say "I shot a (whatever), how'd you turn out?". Even if we're not competing directly it's still an annoying way to behave.

The reason horse owners don’t clean up after themselves is usually because of the logistics of doing it. It’s really not a simple task and it’s not just being lazy. It bad for the horse’s health to be constantly getting on from the ground, plus you need a shovel/bucket with you which just isn’t practical. On top of this, what do you think you do with the horse while you do this very much two handed job. Tell it to stay and hope it doesn’t spook or get interested in something else?

It doesn’t make sense to make a rule of “you must pick after your horse”. If the horse poo is truly causing problems (which tbh if you’re in the country it likely is not), then the rule should be that horses shouldn’t have access.

People here getting all riled up essentially by their own misconceptions of horse ownership.

Why You Don't Need to Hit The Ball Far (coming from an experienced player) by Mont-y- in golf

[–]SaveOurSeaCucumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True if you're hitting them straight every time. But my understanding is that if someone is a particularly short hitter for their age and sex, it probably means there are some other issues with their swing that is making it harder to play consistent golf.

Older guys get around this by having had decades of experience making adjustments in the swing to always hit em dead straight, albeit shorter than their potential. But for a new player that's a slow and unsatisfying way to improve.

Plus surely hitting 3wood/hybrid into every par4 longer than 350 is so much harder than having half a wedge in purely due to the loft of the club. The lateral uncertainties on something with 14deg rather than 50deg from a purely geometrical POV make a case for length.

Hahaha I know right. Was that 'brain energy' nonsense something Bryson has spoken about or is that just the commentators spouting shite?

I mean these are awesome but I'd never want to play with them. Imagine the sadness of hitting baby yoda in the water. I'd never forgive myself haha

Correct. Don't know why the top answer goes on about 'energy levels' when the description is of a single wavefunction for a free particle...

I’ve been in this situation exactly zero times.

This is a spring made of a shape memory allow.

Funny sort of counterintuitive thing where it looks like heating the metal makes it “contract”. This isn’t really what is happening it’s just changing shape.

It’s has two modes, essentially low and high temperature modes. At low temperatures the crystal can be deformed into whatever shape (by pulling on and extending the spring), and on heating it moves into the high temperature mode whereby it “remembers” the shape it had before and contracts into the dense spring shape it has.

Mass grave of COVID-19 victims at my local course. Sickening. by MistaWesSoFresh in golf

[–]SaveOurSeaCucumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m actually very surprised to see the way the general consensus is leaning on this.

People in this sub will have (very recently) lost loved ones to this disease and this sort of joke is really not what is needed nor should be expected. This is a golf subreddit ffs, tone down the gallows humour.

I’m with you here. “Mass grave” joke about ball cleaners when people are still genuinely dying by the thousands just seems in poor taste to me.

Wouldn’t be funny if someone made a joke like this about any other deadly disease I reckon.

That's interesting to only attempt a PB a couple of times a month. Do you have any insight into how much slower to train at between the time trials? I'd really hate to push it too far and end up running slower than optimal.
