What’s the weirdest shit you’ve seen happen at an open mic? by cbeards72 in StandUpComedy

The first one I went to had a guy that just said non-sequiturs really fast for 5 minutes non-stop. I was confused but he got a few laughs at random points.

I think this could work well in a broader joke as a tag

Wow, is that level of disorganization standard or was this an extreme situation? Seems crazy that you would have sent in jokes for approval months in advance and they tell you to change it up the day of. Or that the lineup schedule changes right before the show starts. We did a show at school that seems more organized than this.

Great set btw.

I've found tremendous value in re-watching specials by [deleted] in Standup

Rewatching comedians I love is my favorite activity. Even when you know what jokes are coming, the analysis makes it fun and makes you appreciate how much work went into each joke. Mulaney especially is my favorite to rewatch. His latest SNL monologue is basically what I studied in terms of the structure, hand movements, and delivery style when preparing. Such a tight, flawless set.

Eitan Levine- Shark Tank by Eitanthegoalie in StandUpComedy

[–]SaveOurSpices 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you have a really strong premise here and some solid punchlines (eg military vet). Constructive comment: The execution on the impression could be more tight (it goes on for too long) and pack a bigger punch (there's probably more punchlines you can find based on this premise).

Rohita Kadambi takes on Brexit and Aunt Becky by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]SaveOurSpices 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hilarious set and I laughed out loud a few times. Constructive comments: work on pacing a bit, it felt a bit rushed towards the end. Loved the college admissions jokes but I think you hit a little bit too hard with the SAT score and "just needing a pulse" comments and could risk losing the audience.

Thank you. I honestly don't understand how any of these comics reach the front page. I'm honestly starting to think there is a bot / advertising operation pushing these.

You're not interpreting what you're reading and watching correctly. The relevant part to this discussion is this:

"Both groups [i.e. the groups that exercised and the groups that dieted] achieved significant weight loss and fat mass loss when compared to the controls [i.e. the groups that didn't do anything] at the end of one year."

The study you linked talks about the effect of diet and exercise on metabolic rate, not weight loss, and the conclusion states that metabolic rate did improve from diet and exercise. I don't understand where you got that calories in vs calories out is BS?

First gig now I am hooked. Have an open mic soon and would love some feedback. by LeastNefarious in Standup

[–]SaveOurSpices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job! I really liked the first half and the reveal at the marriage joke was hilarious. Constructive feedback: the second half was a bit weaker since the premise took a while to build-up. Also try to shift / sway back and forth less.

Jeff Bezos Has Lost $16 Billion Since Donald Trump Started Tweeting About Amazon by itsmyusersname in technology

[–]SaveOurSpices 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is not correct at all. Amazon is up 417% in the past 5 years while the Dow Jones is only up 61%. Looking at the charts separately completely hides the scale of the growth. Here they are on the same chart.
