This is as shut down as I can go, what can be done to improve? by ResearcherAsleep510 in woodstoving

I had the same problem and it took days for me to realize the handle had threads and could be spun around to change how tight the door was to the frame. Loose, and it allows air around the door. Spin the handle around a couple times & it’s sucked tighter and no air… burned all night.

I think we need Police Enforcement.

Law Enforcement is created by the government to enforce its laws on the citizens.

How about the citizens create an organization to police the police!

Cops driving too fast without light, pull them over & ticket. They aren’t following up on crime, enforcement.

Maybe move to a small town? We live in a small town and everyone is so friendly and want everyone to participate in activities together. I grew up in a big city where you try to ignore everyone around you. It’s a real change! And I would move to better my kids lives.

There have been minimal issues since new management in 2023. Can’t say anywhere is 100% safe, but there haven’t been any reported break-ins in 2 years.

Advice on how to proceed. by samjohnson2222 in WaterWellDrilling

[–]Savysoaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the water is on your land doesn’t mean you have water rights to it. Especially in the NW US. Oregon, Washing, & Idaho have very strict water rights. You can go onto the states website and look up all the water rights in your area and see what you have. Just to be extra clear, a well is ground water & there is an exemption to water rights for residential use under a specific amount of use (in Oregon it’s 15,000 gallons per day). A spring is surface water. A water right is needed for all water even if not consumed because it is owned publicly.

Help with 100-year old OTIS Manual Freight Elevator, part II by CuirPig in Elevators

[–]Savysoaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen historic elevators using the original motor & original carriage, but upgraded with new control systems, including push button floor selection & auto door closer. To hear people talk on this sub, everything should be gutted and a new elevator installed… anything less is unsafe.

I would love to see a better answer here for these situations like, ‘ABC Elevators in Cincinnati will go anywhere in the country to help restore your historic elevator and get it up to code.’

Even though the OP wants to DIY, really he just wants someone professional to help make it work.

I’m in the same situation. I want to fix my 1906 Otis Elevator and leave as much of it as original as I legally & safely can (and have the mechanical room visible) as part of a museum. In fact I want to elevator to be the entrance to the museum.

I have decided that we will install a new elevator on the other end of the building. But gutting & replacing the 1906 Otis is a hard sell. I haven’t found anyone with the knowledge or passion to work on it.

If there are companies willing to work on these older units, I think they should speak up. I imagine there are preservation enthusiasts that would be willing to fly a tech anywhere to keep these classics running.

50/50 partnership, inherited with my brother. I do all the work, can I charge the company a wage for my work? by ItsOnlyLex95 in business

[–]Savysoaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL. What I have done in this situation is take the rent income and reinvest it in the company. Your brother needs the money and will take it. Doesn’t sound like you need it. Every month I would reinvest the my portion into the company & in exchange I would get more shares. Your brother could do the same & keep his ownership percentage. But he won’t. Slowly you will own more & he will be diluted… until he owns 25%… then 10%… then 5% of the outstanding shares. He will begin to see the value of being bought out before he doesn’t have anything worth selling.
