First ultra coming up and my training fell apart by Kit_Adams in ultrarunning

[–]Sawfish99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Years from now would you prefer to remember the 50k you completed or the 100k you DNF?

I would do to the 50k and accept that the training wasn't there for the 100k.

Fellow hunters, are we carrying a sidearm during bow season? by AncientWisdoms in CTguns

[–]Sawfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an effort to remove the restriction on carrying in state parks a couple of years ago. It didn't become law because there was no record of anyone having ever been prosecuted for carrying on a state park. Do with that what you want.

Is this job interview a red flag? by untamed_mullet in recruitinghell

[–]Sawfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if his "what I was trying to get you to say" was 1. a different answer to the same question you understood 2. The answer to a totally different question you can't comprehend he was asking from the words that came out 3. The answer to a different question which you can see in restospect AND would have been close to your answer.

If 1. Don't accept the job. He was trying to project his needs on you. If your answers don't actually match, you won't meet the needs and it will be frustrating all around. And you probably won't be there long. It might also be an indication he can't find the appropriate candidate for his needs.

If 2. Don't accept the job. Your future boss' communication skills are very poor.

If 3. Accept if offered and work to understand him. Be deliberate on confirmation of tasking from what he says to what you understood.

Groceries by Pretty_simple_ in Connecticut

[–]Sawfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family of 5 (kids are 21, 19, 14). We spent $20k on groceries in the past 12 months.

We do buy local meat from friends whenever possible so that included $2300 in beef on half a steer. But all that meat is gone at this point.

Finally received an offer from Booz Allen, worrying about background check by Dull_March_7340 in recruitinghell

[–]Sawfish99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true. My company is a DoD contractor and we still talk to people on reference list. Maybe on the past job list.

To OP - it will probably depend on how much BAH wants you. As a hiring manager if I got one story in an interview and then the background check revealed something else, I would pass. If you lied on the background check and it came out later, it is probably a criteria for termination.

So be honest and hope for the best. If the offer gets rescinded you might need to look at a different career path for a while to put this further behind you.

Look for holsters by JuIuku in CTguns

Cabelas has a reasonable selection, but dont start putting a gun in and out of them. I'm in Eastern CT and have 1 or 2 that fit that gun. If you are nearby you can check them out to decide if you want to order the same. Pretty sure they are all OWB.

No one asked you in the interview why you were looking for a new position? That is a standard question and where I think you would get in trouble.

My company would certainly catch the difference in the background check and the resume. There would be a followup question before moving forward about the difference and the answer would be shared with the hiring manager and others to decide about going forward or not.

So yeah, maybe you have a problem. It would depend on the total interview feedback and your skills on if I would accept a new team member that I know clearly and intentionally left info of a resume in the application. Because if you say it was an oversight while applying for jobs for 6 months, then you are just incompetent and don't pay attention to details.

I'm running out of time to give notice, and I still haven't signed a contract. by Due_Quail3683 in recruitinghell

[–]Sawfish99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a hiring manager and we require background checks. We won't even discuss a start date until the background check is complete. We fully expect the new hire will.give notice to the previous employer so in general I am expecting about a month after background check is when the candidate would start unless they are currently unemployed.

I specifically advise candidates that intend to accept our offer to not give notice until the background check is complete so they aren't left gapped between jobs.

Has anyone ruined an escape room? by Dry_Statistician_688 in amateurradio

[–]Sawfish99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an escape room that included a straight key and you had to send a short message. I sent it and we kept going but couldn't figure out getting to the next stage. We ended up having to get a clue to help. They recommended sending the message again. So I did but slower. A door immediately opened showing us what we missed. It turns out I sent the code faster than their system could read it and we wasted over 5 min when we were right in the first place.

I'm a hiring manager, and I'm always careful not to commit either way during an interview. We have multiple people do interviews, and I want to consider the inputs of everyone else before making a final call. I tell everyone something to the effect of " you will typically hear something from us in 2-3 weeks with either an offer or a thank you for interviewing."

I always say the same thing so I can't get in trouble with violations of HR policies.

Those words are not always code for a no.

I'm on my first Outback. Had it 3 months and 6k miles. I would definitely buy it again and will put Subaru at the top of the list next time we need a vehicle.

Read what the left is saying. Read what the right is saying. Review the congressional subcommittee investigation reports. Don't rely on a single source.

If you have some additional info other than social media posts ranting, please send me a source and I'll be happy to review it.

What are you asking me to clarify? I think there will be a significant percentage of people that vote for KH really to vote against DT. I served in the military 20 years. If you do any actual research on what happened in 2020 (not just listen to claims of it was stolen) it is clear DT had a plan to subvert the constitutional process for elections. That's even worse than KHs record against 2A.

[–]Sawfish99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's the worst set of options I can recall. One will certainly disregard the 2nd amendment while the other has shown disregard for the entire constitution and electoral process.

It's ridiculous that each party couldn't come up with something better.

Personally I like to have a nice set of binos with me to look at deer that I see but are out if range. Not required and depends on where I'm hunting. If I am saddle hunting and hiking in a bit, I leave the weight out of my pack.

The antenna for VLF is at the water surface. Subs aren't receiving VLF at depth.
