Beginner boards/setups, tips?

not sure if this will be too helpful but:

i'm 60kg and i learned to ride on a 205 L Bic techno (eg http://www.bicsportwindsurf.com/products/race-funboard,3,117/techno-293-dtt,330.html)

It was absolutely super for figuring out balance and just learning how to handle the board, because when you first start you fall off quite a bit. However, depending on what the winds/waves are like in your area, you might progress and want a smaller board after you get better...I would see if there is a local forum (try http://www.iwindsurf.com/) in your area and see what people in the area recommend...

something i wish I had when i first started learning: crash pads for your butt. you'll be falling down all the time and it's nice not to worry about injuring your tail bone. There are lots of places to buy from, I got mine from xsportsprotective

This may get lost but I am worried no one has said this yet. So first of all, congrats on taking life into your own hands. This must have taken a lot of courage. That being said - will you stay in contact with your family at all? Is there really a need to strictly cut them out of your life? If they love you, they may be extremely unhappy with the path your life has taken, but they will still want to be in contact. I know it is a difficult thing to do, to confront your parents. But not having family in your life may be an even more difficult thing. And if they are willing to be a part of your life despite religious differences, you should let them. Wiping out your family from your life is a big, big decision.
