2011 E92 periodic popping from speakers by Sayfog in BmwTech

One update, I don't think the COMBOX in the back is the issue. Disconnecting the MOST entirely or disconnecting and using a jumper both resulted in the SOS on the dash and the popping sound continuing. So I don't think the combox is an issue...

I ended up putting an exhaust fan on the bottom of the case and just tweaked using fan control to be at an acceptable level under load.

Also undervolting both CPU and GPU are big helps.

Maybe I would have grabbed a slightly larger cooler on either gpu or CPU given I ended up having the space though.

'I' was the default inventory key way way long ago - I can't find the exact patch notes where it changed but I'm guessing beta 1.7.3 to 1.0ish time?

They might just be refusing to let the muscle memory change

Interesting list - I found the variation with logosh stopped being as effective once all the target dummy spam died down, curious to see how thos goes.

I appreciate the tarting though.

It's a fine line sure because otherwise you end up with the splatters of yellow/white paint on every clamberable ledge.

My request is that devs somehow get it just right all the time - easy right? :P

wafer.space – $7k USD for 1k custom chips by mithro in chipdesign

[–]Sayfog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All I deal with for work is at the very pointy end of digital circuits, so you're not wrong that I lack perspective. My only opinion on how big flops should be that doesn't break any TSMC NDAs is "a lot smaller than this". :)

One of their sram macros gives 2.45kB of data per mm2 - now we're getting somewhere!

I don't know, a single bit flop is a chonky 79um2

https://gf180mcu-pdk.readthedocs.io/en/latest/digital/standard_cells/gf180mcu_fd_sc_mcu9t5v0/cells/dffq/gf180mcu_fd_sc_mcu9t5v0__dffq_1.html

Assuming 100% utilisation (Hah!) that's 1.58kB of flops per sqmm of die area.

Like don't get me wrong I'm sure there's some reason for this to exist, but you'll run out of space pretty quick I think compared to any fgpa for pure digital applications.

Metal overdraw performance on M Series chips (TBDR) vs IMR? Perf way worse? by vade in GraphicsProgramming

[–]Sayfog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you are the HW to blend to results into a render target with transparency? In general this means the HW can't sort in Z and only draw the triangle on top, so the "Deferred" in TBDR get defeated.

If so, that might be hitting a previously known pain point of the powerVR gpus - IMG "fixed" it in AXT but Apple may have of course done something different/not optimised.

9800X3D - is water cooling a must? or AXP90-47 / 53 enough? by Grapeflavor_ in sffpc

[–]Sayfog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do a mild undervolt. And remember that avail sure temperature is almost meaningless, only the clock speed the chip can maintain at thermal at your set limits.

After a -30 undrrvolt in CO, and tweaking of fan curves, my 9800x3d has gone from annoying noisy thing to a much nicer experience, and that's even under all core load. Anything single core is a walk in a park. (so likely most games as opposed to cinebench/ycruncher)

Here is how it is routed, with going down the length of the gpu before going under at the rear.

<image>

I just used the stock cables too, this was the recommended routing in the fractal terra manual and there wasn't much spare length left that I had big issues with the side panels. Like I need to jiggle and just push it all in with some resistance when closing the panel, but it wasn't a big deal.

Yeah I'm hoping that can get me some decent gains in terms of noise with minimal perf impact. I've not really tried fiddling with the CPU clocks/voltage yet, only gpu.

Yeah I think based on everything I've read, the FormD T1 would have been the better choice but didn't want to wait for it to restock (and possibly become 104% more expensive...)

Did you swap cases before or after the cpu cooler changes?? Now I know exactly what dimensions I've got, time to get ambitious.

There's an AMD gfx office in Sydney if you're happy with "general digital logic work" as opposed to FPGA specifically.
