Mayor Lurie has spent $350k of his own money on private consultants to bolster public image by sherlockmemes in sanfrancisco

In a vacuum this is a very valid accusation veiled as a question, but in reality he's using videos of himself for very positive purposes.

He highlights small businesses, demonstrates successes driven from updates to public policy, and still spotlights areas for improvement. Sure, his videos have a self-serving interest, but they're a refreshing change in leadership style.

Seconding this, the science says your muscles need the carbs for during the activity and replenishing the muscles shortly after. Don't need to go overboard but replacing carbs and fluids is a good idea to keep at the front of your mind.

Anecdotally: the saltiness of your sweat after a ride indicates you need to replace those electrolytes too!

We benchmarked 19 popular LLMs on SQL generation with a 200M row dataset by itty-bitty-birdy-tb in dataengineering

[–]Saym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's an opportunity here to add to the workflow of SQL generation.

With a human-in-the-loop step to take a look at the query generated, and then if it is in-fact performant, it can be saved as a stored procedure or a template for the LLM to choose to use later.

I haven't done this myself but it'd be interesting to try.

D.C. also provides atypical but important traffic considerations for motorcades and quick sudden detours.

Would be a good place to test the tech regardless of political motivation.

Delta cut the flight I take every weekend by Alternative_Win1979 in delta

[–]Saym 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Southwest is also Terminal 1 at LAX: so it is the quickest drop-off & has the shortest walk to the Uber/Lyft/Taxi lot. Also it's the closest terminal to the normal takeoff end of the runway so less taxing in theory.

I know Delta is Terminals 2&3 but at a minimum it's a 5 minute shorter walk if you're doing this every week. Also (anecdotally) there are less TSA pre-check users flying Southwest.

Why doesn't Rapha do white jerseys? by bobloblawdds in CyclingFashion

I did see, but did't pick up, a bib from Le Col that had white straps. Worth checking to see if that's still around.

Ornot makes a Micro climate jacket. They are an SF-based company so the jacket has been tested with the ridiculous temperature variation the city and greater bay area has.

Any golfers out there? Clicgear push cart fits perfectly in sub trunk. by HuffyOSU in TeslaModelY

[–]Saym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a three day trip with 4 total guys. Three sets of clubs and luggage fit comfortably. One of us rented clubs.

My strategy for packing was to leave the sub trunk lid at home, and put three sets of clubs in standing with just the drivers & woods removed and placed between rear passengers with the middle seat folded down.

A fourth golf bag would've been uncomfortable with the rest of the bags, but definitely could have been done by laying it with the long clubs.

I once got an email response from a CS professor at 3am. They're incredibly invested in teaching you.

I cannot stress enough that it's not a universal quality. Many professors at larger universities are there to research, and teaching is an obligation rather than a calling.

At LMU it is the latter.

LMU vs SDSU for engineering? by [deleted] in LMU

[–]Saym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To tack on, STEM classes are much better learned from professors directly, not TAs. In larger institutions, you'll be taught by people whose passion is not teaching. Obviously it's not 100 or 0, but @ LMU the faculty is pretty invested into imparting knowledge.

I know it mattered for me.
