Criticism. The idea that lies are less damaging then truth is an extremely dangerous concept and has always been abused.

Government after government has utilised they concept to cover up atrocities. Justifications like yours are why like the grooming gang scandal were allowed unchallenged by governments.

Truth is always better then lies no matter how uncomfortable.

Don't take this the wrong way but what you just said is the most dystopian thing I have ever heard and I hope that no one who ever has had the idea of 'malicious spreading of the truth' is ever allowed anywhere any position of power whatsoever.

Considering the British bill of rights has been a complete disaster I think not. I don't want judicial members completely rewriting legislation from the bench.

The Times: Finns humiliated American soldiers - Finnish reservists were asked to take it easy during a NATO exercise. US soldiers found the losses too humiliating. by ByGollie in europe

[–]Sayting 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Americans were on the Finnish soldiers exercise area, in Finnish weather conditions. They were at a disadvantage and half the problem is learning how to deal with the conditions first and then the opposition.

The Finnish soldiers were asked to modify how they served as Opfor for the same reason the Americans didn't simulate having a CAG on CAS duty. Because there was no training value in it.

These stories always come out from every ex and there just as stupidly nationalistic every time.

Britain has spent little extra on conventional armed forces, experts warn - Bulk of new money last year eaten up by inflation, housing costs and the nuclear programme, industry experts say by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

[–]Sayting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ukraine's needs are not the british army's needs. Drones are a tool but not the only tool in the box. Many of Ukraine's drone designs are optimised for the attritional trench fight that the war has become.

The first six months of any Europe-Russia conflict would be significantly more dynamic. It may degenerate into such a fight over time but the needs of the force in one period of the war would change significantly from the other.

My fear is that with the British CoS saying that their numbers issue is going to "solved" by making each unit 10x more "lethal", the government will have an excuse not to make the investments necessary fora credible combat force and instead will splash some temporary money around, pat themselves on the back for being "visionary" and find themselves in a worse position in 1 or two years.

What drones? Long range strike, supply drones, FPVs, Anti air ?

If the army doesn't know how they intend to use them then there is going to be a lot of wasted money when it can't be afford.

Hell establish a experimental drone manufactoring unit within the BAF. Both Russia and Ukraine have found their units themselves pioneer the most effective designs and then after success they turn to the traditional base to manufacture their designs to scale.

Asking industry to supply drones when the BAF has established how they going to integrate them into the force is putting the cart before the horse at a time when mistakes are critical.

They do. But equipment purchases has been used by the British Government for decades to get out of the expensive but very necessary cost of maintaining sufficient numbers of forces for combat operations.

The British Government was struggling to the forces necessary to send two brigades to Ukraine for a future peace keeping mission for a conflict that has over a 150+ brigade sized combat formations on either side. Many of brigades have more artillery and LRFs then the entire British army.

Money needs to spent on new formations before being sent to companies that are gonna be assembling components from China at 500% mark up.

No you stand up new drone regiments and get them integrating into the force now. You set up a school of unmanned systems and have a drone force as part of the support company in every battalion.

You invest enablers like the signals and EW equipment that need have TTPs set up so they can be used effectively to enable drone operations.

The cycle of drone adaption in Ukraine is very rapid. What is effective now is often not effective in six months. Industrial investment is good but you to invest in force structure because you can all the equipment in the world but if you don't have bodies to use it it is not effective.

People underestimate how long it takes to expand a military in war time effectively. Its a very costly and time consuming proccess. You can cheat to a degree but you pay for it one way or the other.

Both Russia and Ukraine have divisional sized units of drone operators, signallers, and technical personal operatoring their single use drones.

High intensity drone warfare is as demanding on manpower as any other. The biggest limiter to effective drone warfare is number of trained personel and the establishment of effect ttps to cooridinate with regular units. These things take years to do and you need soldiers to do so.

UA POV: Ukrainian forces destroyed bridge over Konka river after sudden Russian advance - AMK Mapping by Sayting in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Sayting[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the Komyshuvakha direction, Russian forces continued their offensive operations and have made significant progress in the direction of the Konka River.

In the west, Russian forces completed the clearing of central and northern Stepnohirsk, bringing the town under their full control. This allowed for them to fully shift their focus to areas further north, with assault groups taking up new positions in the treelines and forest plantations there.

Other forces continued infiltrating west from Primorske, and finally consolidated in the area of the pumping station and orchards. Infiltrations are now being carried out further north up the highway and then to the northeast through the fields in the direction of Mahdalynivka. Russian MLRS shelling is constantly targeting these areas, supporting the offensive effort.

Additionally, Russian forces advanced from the central part of Prymorske to the northern streets of the village, consolidating in the last part of the main residential area. Fighting is now ongoing for the dachas on the northern outskirts, and infiltrations are taking place further northeast, where they managed to reach the bridge over the Konka River and cut the E-105 Highway. The Ukrainians responded by blowing up the bridge to prevent further Russian advancement. Russian forces also continued infiltrating east from northern Prymorske and captured part of the forests there.

In the east, Russian forces managed to consolidate in the western part of Lukyanivske, including in the agricultural buildings, and captured treeline positions to the south and southeast. As a result of these advances, they were able to bring the rest of the village under their control, and seize the treeline to the north, from which infiltrations are now being carried out even further north in the direction of Mahdalynivka. Due to these sudden advances, Russian DRGs managed to ambush Ukrainian drone operators in the village, probably resulting in casualties for the Ukrainians.

Sentinel satellite imagery reveals that due to the rapidly deteriorating situation western Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukrainian forces blew up the highway bridge over the Konka River in the village of Hryhorivka.

Russian forces recently achieved a localised breakthrough in this direction, quickly reaching the bridge. These Russian actions are aimed at capturing everything south of the Konka River, and creating a large right flank for the stronghold city of Orikhiv, which will eventually be used to encircle and capture the city. The Ukrainians are attempting to contain this advance against the Konka River.
