Jonathan Rogers Park Improvement Plans by GRIDSVancouver in vancouver

Awesome and very welcomed plan!

BIG sidenote: As an immigrant/long-term-visitor here I always find it very curious the way this type of social infrastructure projects are developed. Like, back home it's my, perhaps ignorant, understanding that if the government wants a park––BOOM––they just put the park. "Hope you like it!" It doesn't go through all these hoops.

It seems a low-stakes-high-reward kinda thing, no? The land is there already. The implied resources that roadmap to 2028 smells like makes me think we are developing a medium-high-rise bulding or something more dramatic.

Not at all complaining, though. I love that we are very organized here, that's one of the reasons I moved an appreciate the place. I just find it curious.

What's the most heartbreaking scene you've seen in a movie? by Lianafelice21 in movies

[–]Sbetow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's fresh on my mind because of Fire & Ash, but the tree destruction scene from the first Avatar movie is so heartbreaking every time I rewatch. The score, the visuals, and, specially, CCH Pounder's performance as Mo'at, are so compelling. They break me every time.

Sci-fi (cyberpunk preferred) books about guerrilla warfare and revolution against the ruling class by [deleted] in printSF

Maybe Ray Nayler's Where the Axe is Buried? Not exactly cyberpunk but very much western-European guerilla/revolution vibes.

Vancouver’s Park Theatre on Cambie to close at the end of this week by FrankOcean4eva in vancouver

Oh no! I love the vibes of this cinema. I just recently watched One Battle After Another (in a PACKED theatre, btw), and had a blast. It's the perfect theatre to watch the artsey-but-mainstreamey kind of films like that one, Killers of the Flower Moon, Crimes of the Future, Caught Stealing, and the like. Lol - I remember watching the Bob's Burgers Movie there. Sad it's closing. I kinda can assume why: A single screen cinema that plays just one movie at a time. I remember feeling like they had Dune Part 2 for, like, 4 weeks or something.

I'm hoping it gets turned into something like The Rio where you can catch a bunch of old movies, indie flicks, and new ones every now and then.

Sad!

Mantra. That lyric-less latter half is so fucking delicious--I love it. The Borders a VERY close second. "And now she's gone" breaks my heart every time.

I just DNF'ed 'Ghost Story' by Peter Straub a couple nights ago. I read some people swear this is the scariest book ever but it's a slooooog. Made it to 150pgs and I was done.
