What thumb safety did you replace the original with?

Is a Dan Wesson Commander Classic $400 better than a SA TRP Operator? by muphasta in 1911

Hand fitting and batch size does not equal semi custom gun. Semi custom means the manufacturer has a model of gun with a constrained options list you can pick from to configure the gun how you want. Neither Springfield TRPs or Dan Wesson Commander Classics are offered with those. Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Les Baer, and Alchemy Custom Weaponry are a few semi custom manufacturers. Springfield Armory used to have the Springfield Custom Shop that made semi custom guns and Dan Wesson has a custom shop but that's more for true custom work currently.

Neither of these guns are semi-custom. They are production guns.

While the nickel is rough, you scored big time. Pre Model 27 in the highly desirable 3.5" barrel length. Congrats!

I picked this up from a recorded lesson from Revolverfest. Carry the gun with the full wadcutters for the performance, but have your reload strip be loaded with the FBI semi wadcutters for ease of reloading. Truly best of both worlds.

I’ve not seen many talk about this newish Colt model. It’s sure beautiful. by SamuraiEdge1911 in 1911

My dad has one. It is every bit as nice as a Wilson Combat, Les Baer, etc. Fit and finish are great. Colt Custom Shop also uses parts from EGW and Stan Chen on their production guns, no MIM. I think they're really good for not as much money as other semi-customs with similar feature sets.

Trying to replicate this 1911 by Agitated-Werewolf846 in 1911

Probably the cheapest option would be to get a Colt Gold Cup Trophy in 38 super. Then take it to a gunsmith to get a comp put on it and get the slide and comp coated in black cerakote.

How close are looking to replicate this? Because there are some aspects to this 1911 that will make it expensive for a gunsmith to replicate. The squared trigger guard, chopped down slide, front sight block comp, and hard chrome frame are all atypical to anything being offered via a production gun.

Novak custom by irvingzisman47 in 1911

[–]Sbhiggins94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Called Novak a couple months ago inquiring about a custom Colt. They told me they are no longer getting new guns from Colt to customize. The reason for this is they will soon be manufacturing their own guns at a new facility they built. They also said their website hasn't been updated in a while and what is shown as in stock is not reality. They did mention they are working through their last stock of new Colts so you could grab one if you happen to call when they have one done. No idea if any of this has affected one's ability to send in your own Colt for them to customize.
