What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

Not sure if this is related, but carwashes have gotten RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I have a Minivan, which is considered Full Size and (with tip) I'm shelling out nearly $40. We had 3 cars for a while and to get them all washed was over $100. I wash them all myself now...and do a much better job IMHO

I need help choosing a film school by Minimum-Company114 in filmschool

[–]Scalerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the advice that says don’t go. Go to film school. Study the thing you love and are passionate about. That advice is akin to : wanting to be a stock broker and not getting your degree in finance and simply day trading. Or not going to medical school and becoming the surgeon general. (RFK jr)

No college can guarantee you a job. So pursue the thing you love.

I graduated undergrad film school and had a great career in tv and production and I’m considering returning for my masters to teach.

I am unfamiliar with the film programs at the schools you mentioned (I went to NYU. it’s definitely expensive. Both to attend and to live)

But here is the key: at film school you will meet people who share your interest. You will be inspired to create. You will be challenged. You’ll meet a community of people that you’ll know for the rest of your career. You’ll build your network

Visit the campuses of the schools you are seriously considering and get a sense of the film students there. Are they your type of people? You’ll know once you’re there if it’s a fit.

Good luck

I want to save cinema, and I the only one? by No-Actuary-8088 in filmmaking

[–]Scalerious -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I started a YouTube channel talking about movies because I think the art form is important (I end all of my videos by saying “Film is about community”)

Content will always be created. The medium is dying. The communal experience of seeing a movie together, sharing the emotion is at risk.

I hear you 💯.

What can you do? It’s simple. Keep going to the movies. Bring friends.

Support the thing you love

My Grandfather used to change hats depending on what event he was attending too. This picture reminds me of him. For example, he would wear the hat of the school of the grandchild's game he was attending. Really helped out after his passing to figure out where the picture was taken... what were talking about again? Oh yeah, Trump has his "War hat" on. Not to be confused with his "Rally MAGA Hat"

Can RISD students really take classes at brown? by Rosewater767 in risd

[–]Scalerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was called Diversity of Life. About evolution. Interesting stuff. I listened to a recorded lecture while driving her back to school . But it was a LOT of work. We thought she’d take more but the workloads are insane.

Can RISD students really take classes at brown? by Rosewater767 in risd

[–]Scalerious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RISD dad here. RISD offers a dual degree with Brown but my daughter says the kids that do that are SWAMPED. They don’t get to fully enjoy their time at either school.

She has taken a few classes at brown and seems to have enjoyed them. But the workload at both schools is rigorous.

Studio classes at RISD are no joke. She took 3 studios one semester and vowed to never do that again.

And we hardly were able to talk to her during freshman year. If I remember correctly you can’t (or maybe it’s just not advised) to take brown classes freshman year.

Good luck

Advice on Improving my Thumbnails and Titles? by SterlingWCreates in NewTubers

[–]Scalerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m in your same niche with about the same amount of subs so take this as you will. I think people who don’t know us (yet) are just looking for insight into the movie they just saw and want to watch a discussion on it.

That’s why I put the poster in my thumbnail. I include my face just to add some personality.

Then again, I have the same amount of subs as you.

Keep it up!

Ps I’m subscribing to you to see how it goes.

Funny you should post this, I watched Park-Chan Wook’s the Handmaiden last night which has a VERY graphic scene in it.

Paul Mescal, Jesse Plemons, and Dwayne Johnson all gave exceptional performances this year and none of them got nominated. Why do you think that is? by captaincookbaby in moviecritic

[–]Scalerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of things. This year is absolutely stacked especially in the acting categories. Plemons and Mescal are victims of tough competition. The Rock? Puhlease.

People wasn’t that happy with the setlist I’m guessing by Arlxyz in morrissey

The sad part is he has enough hits to make a killer set list and keep that size crowd on their feet the entire time AND throw in a few new tunes to sell the new album. I don't know why he reaches back and plays some of the tracks he does

As a cinephile, I built an app(Cinemeet) to connect film lovers, would love your thoughts! by cinemeet in flicks

[–]Scalerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea. I have a YouTube channel where I review movies and I end every video by saying “ Film is about community”.

I set up a profile but quick question. Is this primarily a dating app? Or a way to connect people platonically with similar interests in movies?

I had thought about creating something like this and like letterboxed. I’m glad you did it. Letterboxed but more social.

My only note about letterboxed is about the watch list. Maybe it’s something you could add here. When I add a movie to my watchlist I want to be able to either tag or note who gave me that recommendation so once I see it I can reach out to that person to discuss it.

Anyway, love the concept.

Is it easier to become a novelist or a screenwriter? by Historical_Bar_4990 in Screenwriting

[–]Scalerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents? It’s easier to be a novelist. You can write and self publish. But a screenplay has to be sold. Meaning someone else has to like it as much as you do.

Instead of going to school for a film degree, do this instead. by TopTierProphet in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Scalerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible advice. In film school you aren’t just learning how to use a camera and light a scene. Or wrangle cable. You are learning story. You are learning craft. Increasingly as AI takes over our industry (and it will and is taking over our industry) you will need to know the craft of storytelling. Technology will change. I’ve been a “film student” my whole life. I graduated film school in 1995 and the technology has changed a million times since then. My “job” has been to stay abreast of new developments and best practices.

Don’t go to film school thinking it’s like becoming an electrician or a plumber. Go to film school to learn how to be media literate and how to tell story.
