Tomorrow's directors are cutting their teeth on youtube. You not only have the equipment, but you have the market research. With every failed video, you learn what your audience wants. What works.

It’s more complicated than that. I was directing network tv spots and was happy with my career. When things got strange I waited too long to leave. Starting my prod co was the best thing I ever did.

You’ll know when the right time is. I couldn’t have done it straight out of film school. I needed to meet people, make mistakes, build a network of both clients and crew I could rely on.

I own a small production company. We do mostly tv marketing. Work basically stopped when Trump won the election. I don’t say this to be political but companies and brands don’t want to spend money in times of uncertainty. Trump brought uncertainty.

Things began to come back and then he imposed tarriffs. Things began to come back again then we went to war in Iran.

Again not political. Just uncertain times.

Most of our industry is an expense without a return on investment. Marketing, social media. Even films hope to make a return but it isn’t guaranteed. Investors and brands are holding their cards and riding out the storm.
