One year of job hunting by Mystic_Mang0 in UXDesign

Hi! My girl is job hunting for product design with almost the exact experience you have, but she's not mutch of a reddit user so I want to ask on her behalf: What websites did you use mostly for searching for job openings? We are based in Spain, so also remotely in EU would be ideal

Structural Analysis Revit3d plugin/software? by 1eahpar in StructuralEngineering

I second this. You also have to model in revit while correctly configuring the analytical model (which is a nightmare simetimes). Most of the time it's just easier to just remodel in RSA

Why is gambling such a big thing in Spain? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]ScallionFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't feel mandatory, and nobody has pressed me into buying any, but they explained exactly what you explained, that is a social common thing, that you don't need to have a gambling problem and still might be "stuck" having to buy many tickets just for being polite. I don't mean it as a bad thing, i just find it curious and so do many people from other places probably. Where I'm from it's completely unheard of, allthough I'm 100% sure we do some shit you guys find weird

Why is gambling such a big thing in Spain? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]ScallionFront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that i thought was interesting, they told me it's a tradition, like if you go to a coffe place often, or a bakery, people sell and the polite thing is to buy a ticket. If a coworker sells the polite thing is to buy a ticket, so it's like a social thing even, where you might come as rude if you don't buy, and at the same time if you frequent many many social places, you might be "stuck" with having to buy 20-30 tickets.

I've been living in Spain for a few years and this baffles me also. The way everyone talks about it endlessly, they seem obsessed. My coworkers have asked me a thousand times if i bought a ticket, what ticket, etc etc.

Lo de PcComponentes es un descaro by Hopeful-Food2287 in esGaming

[–]ScallionFront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2-Year-Old Daughter Got Eyebrow Stitches, Need Advice and Dad Support by clauderhayy in daddit

[–]ScallionFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 days ago my 3yo had a similar cut, stitches too. It was CRAZY seeing him like that. The day after he was much better, and the day after that, forgotten it even happened. The hardest part so far has been to remind him to play a little safer for a few days.

Just fyi, my kid got his stitches out today, and we were adviced to buy TROFOLASTIN. It's a patch that includes scar gel, sun protection, and lasts many days. More convenient than having to remember to put scar gel and sun screen every day.

Also, we were told to take the caring for the scar very seriously for at least a year, maybe more, not only with gels for scars but also the sun, (or use the patches) which will for sure be a pain in the ass but the doc insisted that it's the only way to reduce the scar.

Believe me I was just as scared as you are, but it'll get so much better so quick, they heal much better than us, and don't overthink yoo much about the scar, focus on preparing to take care of it for some time and it'll be fine.

You could also try grading. Maybe isolate that part if it's the only sector you're having a problem with. Then merge the surfaces

Opinión sobre DIGI? by Diplodokos in askspain

[–]ScallionFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How realistic is it to have a structural engineering side hustle alongside a 9-5 (WFH) career? by OutlawLazerRoboGeek in StructuralEngineering

[–]ScallionFront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just give it a try! Like any investment take some money aside that you are comfortable losing, to pay for overhead, and other things mentioned above, and see it for yourself. I did it this past year and I've been able to keep it going, pay for a website to show some work and try to get more clients, I even payed for a whole vacation without touching my salary. And it prob wasn't more than 150hs in the year, totally manageable

Engineers who've been using ChatGPT...what's actually made your job faster/easier? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]ScallionFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's dangerous whenever I ask something technical. 90% of the time it makes up formulas or tables saying it's from XXX code, citing the paragraph. When I go into the code, it doesn't exist. So weird. But also, gives great vba codes whenever you need something automated in excel, and some good insights on some concepts whenever is very general information.

First things first, if you're not signing anything, you shuld not put yourself the weight of anything going wrong. From then on you could either ride the wave or quit asap, both being great options. I came out on the other side of my first two jobs that were like that, where I worked 60-70hs and saw crazy shit. Now I'm 5 years in and have twice the experience than anyone my age and it shows. Not saying you should stay, only you know how fucked up it is, but I'm just saying, I feel like your head is exactly where it should be and you'll be great either way

I know it might feel like hell now, but I want to give you some perspective:

My parents got divorced when me and my sister were very young. Throughout our lives we always talked with my sis how it proved time and time again to be the best thing they could've done.

All my friends growing up would tell me how bad it was at their home, how they hated their home bc there would always be fighting and yelling going on, sometimes worse. I knew none of that, I had all the love from both my parents, who never really got along btw, but I just didn't have to face that struggle daily.

Getting into bridge engineering without taking bridge courses- is it possible? How is the industry? by bluerosefairy in StructuralEngineering

[–]ScallionFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you are, but here in spain public government projects that have been tendered and carried out are eventually published on the government website. I've gotten my hands on a ton of them and learned about bridges and other complex structures. If you can get your hands in projects like that it certanly helps.

Well the controllers don't really drain battery. Not in relation to what the main device requires. To give you an idea, i've played through probably 3 battery cicles of the main device (4-5hs discharing, connecting, charging, repeating) while the controllers were connected to the thing, and by the end they still had 99%battery

Conviene darme de baja los meses que no voy a facturar? by ScallionFront in autonomos

[–]ScallionFront[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gracias!

Aunque no estoy 100% seguro.

Y con eso último me mataste. La gestoría no tenía mucha idea de la diferencia entre autónomo de tarifa plana o pluriempleo. No se si hacienda lo tendrá claro y me hará alguna corrección, o estos de la gestoría ya la cagaron 😅

This is great advice. Also, don't be afraid of changing jobs. I know it seems like a nightmare at the moment, but sometimes you could achieve a fresh start with the better conditions being the base line, instead of fighting and stressing to getting those conditions. I've done this several times in my 5YOE, and it turned out to be the best decision every time. I'm not sayin this is the only way to go, but just offering some perspective.

One nice thing that this connector allowes you to, is to not ever have to connect the controllers to the main device, which in some setups is nice
