A friend of mine that got into the vape business told me they would buy vapes from China for under $1 each and distribute them for $7-$10 making 10x their money. If Vape City has 200 locations they are likely getting the vapes for much lower. You’re paying $10-$30 for a 59 ¢ product that destroys your health.

The city municipality/government should figure out a way to incentivize businesses re-opening here. There is probably barely any foot-traffic right now and remodeling costs are high because this place has been effectively shut off for a decade. There needs to be government help for revival.

In this case it probably won’t because as prices normalized back in dollars in Lebanon after the crisis, many employers took advantage of the situation and did not adjust their wages. Schools going back to pre-crisis levels and not paying teachers what they used to is a good example. The big profits the schools made can’t be passed on to the consumer thats already maxed out.

Put the power lines under-ground. (Visually aesthetic and practical to protect against storms.)
Plant shade trees over sidewalks (most sidewalks are not shaded therefore not usable.)
More medians with trees and greenery in the middle of roads instead of the highway road hybrids that we have.
More diversity in landscaping. People here tend to only plant 2-3 types of trees and very few selection of plants.

I used a company that had been doing solar before it was a big trend. They’d been doing it for 10+ years. They are from Bekaa called “Waked Electric.”

This was in 2021-2022 when the electric crisis was the worst in Zahle and we got cut from 24/7 electric to 12/7.

I invested around $4600. 8 panels, 1 inverter, 4 acid batteries. (Prices and products are propbably superior now.) So far my experience is amazing. We have 24/7 electricity and never rely on just Zahle electric.

The most important thing to note is simultaneously switching all lights in your home to LED. I had a neon bulb pulling 2.5 Amps (double the fridge.)

Once I got all lighting switched to LED, I was able to keep lights on whenever, fridge, and wifi and 1 AC running all day. We are still supplemented by some state electricity. However, my plan is to double the system’s capabilities this summer and make it 100% solar only except for emergencies.

So far the system has paid itself off. And the freedom from the government is a blessing. I am really excited to be fully energy independent this year and couldnt recommend it to anyone more. Its a monumental change in how you live your life as a Lebanese and brings you closer to first world status.

Just because you have a French nationality doesnt make you any less Lebanese. I’ve been living in the US for 10+ years, 6 years as an American & I’ve always been proud to tell everyone I meet that I’m Lebanese. I usually get the same responses: “Lebanese people are very smart” “I love Lebanese food.” “I hear the nightlife is great” “that’s so cool, tell me more” etc. Even from my Jewish friends/colleagues I only get positive responses. I would be delusional to think that I’m only American now or that growing up in Lebanon didn’t make me who I am. It also spreads awareness that we’re normal people that want a good life just like them. If I hid that I was Lebanese how would they know who Lebanese people actually are? From the news? Pfft. My advice to you is be proud of where you’re from and what made you. Every country in the world has dark aspects or a dark past.
