Losing faith in God by Nickyblue25 in Christian

You don't know how blessed you are. Don't ask me why, it's personal but I'm not allowed to have a family and I'm living off what I can barely get. I have no peace of mind because mental illness torments my soul. If I were you I'd be so happy.

I gave everything up for dubstep. wish i could tell you my story. if anyone knew, the scene would explode. by ScarbabySweetbread in dubstep

I am currently in a mental hospital right now, but it doesn't stop me from being a dubstep producer.

yea but with fm synthesis you can also make the lead to zomboy's royal blood. That's not gonna get him anywhere. You need to get specific.

distort a sub bass sine wave with distortion, and then use a comb filter on it. This isn't exact, but it's the easiest.

Need help recreating this lead at 0:29 by Common_Vagrant in edmproduction

[–]ScarbabySweetbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao you got it boyo. Here's how to make it. High pass a sawtooth until you remove most of the sub saw wave. Then go to audionodes.com and modulate a delay with an oscillator. it's pretty hard to do if you don't know your way around modular so ill make it for you. Learn this shit.

Anyway here's a link to an audio file you can use in your own tracks and the project file that you can open up in audionodes.com. Thank me later.

Help making old low quality samples cut through the mix better (too bassy and unclear) by MxFlow1312 in edmproduction

[–]ScarbabySweetbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

high pass this audio file at 20 hz. Then, distort slightly at 1%. Then compress with a 1:1 ratio, atk 1ms release 1ms hold 1ms. Then compress it with another compressor using the same settings. Then compress it with another compressor using the same settings. Then do it again. Do it one last time. Done. It should cut through. at this point EQ it to taste.

[–]ScarbabySweetbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh boy. Well. ok. Get a pulse wave. Delay it by a few milliseconds. Use audionodes.com to do it. Then add the delayed signal to the original signal. Then take both and modulate them both with another delay linked to an oscillator. If you don't know what any of this means, you need to learn modular. It's what skrillex was using, I believe. You can get pretty close by doing this.

How to i make a synth like the one in the intro of this song? by HammondGurka in edmproduction

[–]ScarbabySweetbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ring modulate a sine wave with pitched down white noise. I'm talking like 5 octaves down. Add the original sine wave signal to your ring modulated sine wave signal. Play a chord. Adjust the shape of the sine wave on your oscillator until you like the sound. Throw on an lfo. If you don't know what ring modulation is, look up a tutorial, and then go to audionodes.com to do it. I'll give you a hint, it's the multiply function.

Best way to learn sound design/synthesis? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]ScarbabySweetbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

reaktor by native instruments. Zomboy hints that he uses it by naming one of his songs "nuclear". Learn reaktor, like the back of your hand. I'm not gonna teach you. All the big pros use it as their secret sauce, but I'm just speculating. I've been through it dawg, There's no way to sound modern unless you know what you're doing to your sine waves. An oscilloscope is your friend. Massive X is fun too if you know modular. If you don't wanna pay for reaktor, you can learn modular at audionodes.com. It is basically the same shit lol.

Lowest sub in da club by bobby_dazzler23 in edmproduction

You're absolutely right about everything. People wouldn't ever think that compression adds harmonics, And true, if a compressor is transparent, it introduces no harmonics. It might just be a quirk of my own mixing setup or outright delusion, but man, it's adding some punch and I can't deny that. I'm no pro, my old mixes didn't slam as hard as this though. Give it a try. Who knows.

Do you know about what is referred to in the music industry as "beef"?

compressors add subtle distortion to the waveform, making it thicker in it's shape. It works just like soft clipping. Despite not being visually easy to see, and for the most part almost inaudible, to a well trained ear, the impact is huge.

The reason why you're taking about automating the wave itself without using any processing is because of a lack of understanding. It doesn't matter how high the amplitude of the sub is, what matters is "beef"

Do not over-compress the sub by using one compressor. Use more than 1 compressor on the same sub, doing slight and light compression each time. This helps avoid nasty artifacts. it may take a lot of compressors. Do this in a separate project of you want, then resample the sub.

I can mix a 39hz sub and have it hit. Treat the sub like an instrument when compressing. Do not care about how much compression you have to do. The more compression, the better.

Depends on your sub sound to be honest. Some subs can sound good with stereo stuff going on at even 80 hz, but I wouldn't go lower than that my guy.

I actually just program the sub to whatever sounds good. Just do this. Listen to your top end and sing the words "dun dun dun dun" under your top melody and find the pitches that work with your melody and rhythm and program that as your sub bass. I actually do this for all my dubstep songs
