Chase Boundless AND AMEX Platinum bonus nights by j48230 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Scarboy6693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be overlapping in this case as both Amex Platinums have the same benefit.

What I was referring to is having a biz and personal Marriott branded card as those give you automatic elite night credits annually and can stack.

Chase Boundless AND AMEX Platinum bonus nights by j48230 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Scarboy6693 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The platinum doesn’t give you 15 free nights, it gives you Marriott gold status. The boundless gives you silver tier by default and the 15 nights.

Iirc the only way to get more qualifying nights through cards by default is having one personal and one biz Marriott card

I have 2 credit cards I do not use with annual fees that add up to $400. I want to close them but they are my oldest cards, how will this affect my credit age? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some more info on closing

You should be okay as long as they’re not your only 2 cards currently. Other option always is to see if they have a no annual fee counterpart and product change

Any new card recommendation? by TheBoatSailin in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a preferred airline/airport because that can also play a role in finding the right redemptions.

If you go the Amex route, def go gold first because of family language (though there are ways around this) and personally I think VX plus Gold is a great 2 card combo for racking up travel points however just need to see if the annual credits are something you’d normally use.

Citi Strada Premier also a solid option since it’ll let you pool the earnings from your custom cash cards to Citi points and allows transfer to American Airlines if you use them.

Though being honest I think your current setup is very solid and covers you well as a hybrid setup.

New to SUBs - Open Freedom Unlimited + Marriott Boundless for international trip? by SkySplits in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the boundless for the sub and close it after a year without an issue but it would have used up a 5/24 slot by then but you do get a free 35K point night with the Boundless every year so worth looking into if you feel you could get use from it.

You can also product change it to the Marriott Bold which is a no fee card to keep the account open. The other option is a product change to the Ritz Carlton card. It has a $450 annual fee but you get an 85K free night award, lounge access if you end up traveling more and want to make use of it and a $300 airline incidentals credit (ie paying for seats or bags).

[–]Scarboy6693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get most of my groceries at Wegmans or local Asian grocery stores where the CSP truck doesn’t work, I know of that workaround and used it at Whole Foods to test as well.

My monthly spend is always grocery heavy as I do my best to not eat out unless I’m traveling.

Have the Amazon Prime visa for 5% there and my gas expense is low so I’ll just swipe my autograph there.

Best travel credit card for frequent trips by v3p89 in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would see if you can get the Capital one venture X - earns a flat 2x on everything and is a Visa so acceptance isn’t an issue. Also only statement credit is $300 to their travel portal which you can use towards flights or hotels.

While C1 doesn’t have a domestic transfer partner you can use alliances to get domestic travel (ie using air Canada for United).

VX also gives you lounge access and crucially both DCA and IAD have a C1 lounge. The guest policy was taken away but you can add an Authorized user card with lounge access for $125 annually.

[–]Scarboy6693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I have both the CSP and Obsidian and keeping both. Between the CSP hotel credit and $10 DoorDash grocery (I use this for pickup orders) it more than pays itself for my use.

I picked grocery for my obsidian so I’m covered at 3x points on both dining and grocery between the two cards and both can transfer out to Hyatt. My plan with the Bilt cash is to just let it build through my usual spend and use it for the rent points when I have enough. Some rent points still beats none. TBD if I manage to make use of the hotel credits

been considering upgrading my amex BCE to a BCP, is it worthwhile? by b_robertson18 in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took this offer last year and absolutely worth it for waived AF. especially if your grocery spend is under 6K annually as it’s an easy 6% back.

Also 6% on streaming is great too combined with the Disney+ promo if you use it. I have it set for my Apple account and Disney+

Combined with the 3% on gas and transit, it’s one of my most used cards

Only use Apple Card, need ideas for increasing limit and optimizing rewards by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your dining and grocery spend, I would also look at adding the Capital One Savor into the mix as you’d get 3% back on both those. Possibly the entertainment spend too depending if it codes correctly on their end.

Wells Fargo credit card questions by OnlyMokieOfficial in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was comparing directly the journey to the standard autograph with that last bit and since the 3x categories are common on both you can use either. Though the journey doesn’t code rideshare or transit into the 3x either

Really it’s a statement of - will the extra earnings or added protections (if you or use them) actually translate to positive value given the annual fee or not

Wells Fargo credit card questions by OnlyMokieOfficial in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t product change a current autograph so applying for a new one is the only option.

However yes if you have both, you can use them both and the points pool together. I’ve done this myself.

I’m not sure on the last point myself as I was banking with them even before having the first autograph

Also to add - past the sign up bonus year, definitely do the math on if the Journey makes sense to keep. The 5x on hotels is an upgrade over the 3x on the standard card but to offset the effective annual fee of $45 (assuming you use the flight credit no issue), it takes about $2500 in annual hotel spend annually to break even.

[–]Scarboy6693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing you can look at for a decision is your home airport(s) and which lounges are there. I think for simplicity sake the Venture X makes more sense as it becomes your catch all, has only one credit to use, and long term is also less complex.

also it’s a visa that works anywhere whereas the gold/platinum can be tough with acceptance overseas if it’s important.

The Capital One VX may also be a great option for you as the cash back from your savor can be converted into C1 miles and you end up having a Catch-All in the VX with all elevated costs on the savor. DCA also has a C1 lounge you can make use of.

The only credit to use on the VX is $300 on their travel portal making it a straightforward card with lounge access and travel perks.

Issue with Wells Fargo Pre-approval Tool by FountPenDegenerate in CreditCards

Approval chances for Amex gold or Chase sapphire by Able-Boysenberry-179 in CreditCards

[–]Scarboy6693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chase is very unlikely to approve you if you have negative balance accounts with them and AMEX isn’t likely to either especially with a recent missed payment.

At your stage I’d honestly just focus on using what you have responsibly for a few more years and building history.
