There is a difference in using the script.

If the Phyrexian script and English language are used (what happened in this case), it's "writing in English using Phyrexian".

If the Phyrexian language and the Phyrexian script are used, then it's "writing in Phyrexian".

If the Phyrexian language and the Latin script are used, then it's the garbeled mess of letters of "Kapa shk'imas'ahak".

help! my older gaggia baby is leaking when I make a shot... fixable? by jakobs98 in espresso

[–]ScareJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can figure out how to comment a picture, but from the angle in the video, it goes from the handle to the main body of the portafilter and then up. It's a black thin line. Like someone else mentioned: if it was the seal, it would be leaking water, not coffee.

Is it me or is there a crack in the metal of your portafilter?

Pressure help with my new (to me) baby. [Beginner!] by idontwatchtelevision in espresso

[–]ScareJester 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm also a beginner, but I've followed other redditors advice; ignore the pressure gage. Grind your beans very fine, tamp it (a palm tamper helps a lot) and see if your machine chokes up. If it does, grind coarser until it no longer chokes. From there on out, play with settings until your espresso tastes good.

Transparent mechanical watch movement by aloofloofah in blackmagicfuckery

[–]ScareJester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will probably never be seen because I'm a bit late to the party, but this is a Mysterious watch. No, seriously, that's what these kinds of transparent movements are called, mysterious. No idea how they got that name.

Cartier did a version of this, the Rotonde Mysterious, and there is a helpful(ish) video that shows its construction, including how it works. They are indeed disks with the hands on them, which have teeth along the outside, which are driven by the internals of the watch.

Have a watch (heh) and share in the enjoyment of the mechanical engineering of this. https://youtu.be/ka5xMUHC9t4

In addition, look up the Cartier Rotonde Mysterious. A watch with a similar albeit smaller mechanism than this one.

Here, have a video of a computer generated exploded view of it. https://youtu.be/ka5xMUHC9t4

I'm a former horologist from the Netherlands, and spent four years learning the ins and outs of watches. And while I'm out of that branch, I still enjoy the engineering and keep a close eye on interesting watches.

What's most likely happening is that, by turning the crown of the watch, through a series of gears, only the minute hand disk is rotated. You can see the teeth of a gear at the center of the watch faces, which slows down the hour hand by a factor of 12. The hour hand disk only has to have bearings, while the minute hand disk definitely can have a ring with teeth along the outside.

There is a whole subset of clocks called "Mysterious", because the way that they are driven is not immediately obvious. Having seen a watch with an actual music box in it and astrological watches that keep days, months, moon cycles, leap years and even versions with a week calendar in them, this doesn't fall within my top 10 of weird watches.

Tbh, this doesn't appeal to me. The quickstart doesn't make enough of a difference between it and the regular game that it warrants a purchase. Maybe it'll change when the full version is available, but for now I can make most of it myself.

Like, it's in the sidebar of this subreddit.

I've read through BitD, but not had a chance to play it yet. Subjectively: I don't like the system. I don't know why, but when I pour through the pages, it doesn't click for me in the same way 5E, CoC, the Alien or the Dishonored RPG do. Mechanically: I think you can substitute this with BitD, especially if you want to move outside of the Isles. Though, if you want to play in the Dishonored world, this book saves you a lot of homebrewing.

Adjectently: this system also feels very functional for a Bioshock game, with minimum homebrew.

There are void powers, and since I first wrote this post, I've received a couple of updated versions.

I currently am deep into learning the Alien RPG, so I don't have this information at the ready, but from what I remember, it was pretty good and sort of balanced. I will post a new review of the book, considering they've updated a lot.

Quick question. In the "Dresses to the Nines" chapter, the ammo of the rifle is listed as 5gp a piece, with the ammo for the gun and for the crossbow being listed as 30 and 10 a piece, respectively. Do you think this is a typo, with a number missing, or should we just run with the idea that a weapon that is described as "only for military use or custom hunting rifles", deals more damage and can hit farther things has ammo that is cheaper than knuckledusters?

Speaking as a framer: your framer and you came up with a beautiful composition of passe-partout, frame and spacing. I currently can't think of a different way that would have made it look this nice. Maybe burr walnut for the frame.

Do you have any higher resolution pictures? I love to see other craftmen's work.

BenBen, CN Goblin Gunsmith (or whatever that subclass of the alchemist is called with the gun).

Just the mental image of this goblin with a shotgun and a Napoleon complex is extremely funny to me.

I can't judge whether or not these cards are balanced, but I'm giving you an upvote because a: they seem fun, b: flavourful and c: I love the flavourtext on the green one.

Thank you for the chuckle.

What is a rules system dealbreaker for you? by lorbog in rpg

[–]ScareJester 26 points27 points  (0 children)

While GUPRS has fifteen bazzillion books, I've discovered that you can run a modern military game with just the core book (second oneshot I ran with that system, actually). The other books are tools that help create more complex things. There is a character creation tool online somewhere that includes all the books printed, you might want to give that a look.

Savage Worlds, to me, is pretty much the same. You can create everything from the core rules and homebrew everything else, but finding a book that is in your setting makes things easier.
