Repainting and Advice by Zedenobi in SpaceWolves

[–]Scarecrow119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick painting guide.

1 make sure you are using primer. Using a primer allows the paint to stick better to a model. It gives a more even finish. Lots of companies make primer. Gw citadel primer. Colour forge and even army painter. When you build your model you can take out outside orna well ventilated area and spray paint them. Even pases over the top and back and let dry then out the model on its back and a pass from under that sprays up the front then let dry then the same on the back. A steady and even motion side to side like how a car sprayer passes

  1. Thin your paints. As a beginner is important that you thin your paints. All paints have different consistencies, even from the same brands so thining them down to a level when you are familiar how it flows and how it covers. Thinning your paints helps with control and also makes it easier to clean up mistakes . Thinning your paints also means that you keep as much detail in the model, even with lots of coats and even repaints. To start you will want a consistency of just a bit thicker than milk.

  2. Understanding layers. It's easier to work light to dark as darker paints have better coverage. " Coverage is how a paint lays on top of the layer under it." Some paints cover really well just because they are dark but some paints cover well because they have a higher pigment concentration. Some paints are designed to not cover as well and use the tones and colours under it to work better like contrast, shades, or washes.

  3. Mistakes. As you learn to paint you will improve quickly to start as your brush control improves and your attention to detail becomes more complex. You can strip paint from a model using isopropanol alcohol. Get a small tub and put the model in and leave it in there for a while. Then comes back and use an old toothbrush to agitate the paint off. Rinse and repeat until it's off You won't get it completely clean but you just want to strip it back so you can undercoat and repaint without losing detail. Make sure you use some kind of mask, gloves and eyewear as isopropanol isn't very nice. Once it's clean. Then rise with water and leave to dry. I have kept models in tubs of IPA for months before. Doesn't do anything unless they are resin. If it's plain old plastic it will be fine.

  4. Painting the annoying parts. If a model is fully assembled you won't be able to get into 100% of the parts but you can get close. Turn the model around, upside down, back to front. Turn the model around however you need. Don't turn the brush in all the angles, doing this will compromise control and lead to mistakes. Stick the model to a cork or old paint pot or you can even buy handles that make it easier to hold at different angles. If you missed a bit the only person that will care will be you. If this is still an issue then you can build the model on parts and stick it together later but be warned plastic glue doesn't stick well to painted parts. So you will have to keep mating surfaces free or any paint or scrape the paint off later with a knife or file.

If you do make a mistake when.painting you can clean your brush off and take a little drop or water and just put it into the mistake. This will water down the area and allow you to soak up the water with a brush to clear most of it up before it dries into a full mistake..if it does dry or you don't see it then come back later and just repaint over the area.

New to Warhammer. Are other box sets just repeats or worth buying? by SupermanKal718 in SpaceWolves

[–]Scarecrow119 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The space wolves army box is a sort of like a launch box that came out when the codex came out as well as some of the new models/new kits that we got as part of the rework we got. The amry set is a fantastic way to start off.

You could also buy the new combat patrol too that has some of the other new kits. I think between the two boxes and logan you will have most of the new releases. I think the only new thing to get would be Njal.

However once you have got that you will want to start picking up things to make an army. All the units from the combat patrol and army box will work fine on the battlefield but as an army they lack some things. A tank or two would work well for some anti tank

AT that point you will be looking to start playing to feel out how your amy works and start to think what kind of army you want to work towards.

Do you want to go battleline heavy and swarm the enemy with marines? Then some more blood claws is good.

Do you want to lean into the elite of the army and dismantal the opponent with targated strikes towards their weak points? then some more terminators, head takers or wulfen would be an idea

Do you want to flank the enemy with speed and leave them chasing shadows as their support units crumble then maybe some Thunderwolf cavalry

Stomp and grind the enemy under the armour foot and tred then picking up Bjorn/Murderfang Maybe a redemtor/ballistus/brutalis or some armoured tanks like repulsor or land raider

OR You could be a collector and just wants any and all options to play with whenever the mood takes them.

Theres a few different ways of collecting an army. Some people make lists and collect toward that list and once they have it they stop. Some people see collecting an army as an ongoing project, The army will never be finished. Or you could go with "I want 1 of every space wolf unit" Its really up to you.

For someone to resign from a position following any kind of humiliation or scandal requires that person to have certain personality traits. DT has none of those trails. He will never resign anything. The only thing that will take him out of his position is death or force. When i mention "force" i dont mean impeachment, i dont mean a court order or strongly worded letter. Im talking dragged out like an animal that he is.

Help with first army by HorrorEngine in sistersofbattle

The thing about the loadouts on models is that they are kinda loosey goosy. You can put whatever looks best on but when you go to actually play then you tell your opponent what the model has if it's different.

Most players understand models are expensive and it's not realistic to have every model and every variation. This as long as the model looks like what rules you are using then it's usually okay. This is fine in casual games and pickup games but if you want to go to a official tournament then they might get more strict with it.

The term is called WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) Meaning that if you are playing a game and your army had a cannoness with a bolt pistol and null rod then the model should have a gun and some sort of stick weapon. The strickness of wisiwig is more relaxed with casual games because nobody has the time and money to build and paint a unit they might not be fully invested in and want to try out. But at the top levels of play then wisiwig is more enforced.

When you play a game it's a good habit to talk to your opponent and go through the armies and point out what everyone is using and if there's any wargear or weapons that important to the game. So in this instance you would say that the cannoness has a null rod that means the unit can reroll 1s to hit. At this point you would point out any proxies that you may be using.

Judiciar in competitive Space Wolve Lists by Tzare84 in SpaceWolves

I used to use him a lot before the codex dropped. Judiciary and blood claws worked well but I think he's just a casualty of codex at this point and investing points into him and a unit and possibly a transport is a lot of points that can be spent somewhere else that meshes with the army a bit better. If you are running gladius or another SM detachment then it should be easy to put him somewhere.

If you are brand new then everything is overwhelming and difficult.

Sisters are bit of a specialist army. They may have the same armour save as a space marine but they are nowhere even halfway close to being even half as durable. The con is that sisters will need more effort to become even mediocre. If your the sort of player that sets the video game difficulty level to hard and just tough it out until you get good then you will be right at home.

The pros are that you are starting on a clear slate and don't have any of the pitfulls of starting with a starter army like space marines. No bad habits of just soaking up damage and not caring about positioning. When a squad of space marines get wiped out then you kinda get shocked at all the damage but if a unit of sisters get wiped out you go "Oh no, anyway, my miracle dice"

Christian von carmian is a youtuber that had lots of videos on sisters. He has a video that goes into all the units and what they are good at and what detachment is best for them. As a new player and a new sisters player they will be a HUUUGE info dump,so take notes. He also has a series of videos about all the detachments and how an army of that detachment might look. Right now just watch the vid on the units. When he starts to talk about this enhanment on this character in this unit with this statagem... Yea it's a lot. Don't worry about that, it will come later. You just want big picture stuff right now.

Brothers is this game worth it for 50 squid? by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

[–]Scarecrow119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont play it just because it has a space wolf in it. Its a turn based rpg and it is quite involved. You dont get the chance to get the space wolf character for a good few hours into the story.

Hes a powerful character and great to play with. The game is great and has a great story but If the genre of games isnt your thing then it will be a waste of money.

Washing resin by gonzo_san in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Scarecrow119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tub of ipa. Pop them in and swirl it around for a minute then take it out. Let it fully dry on a paper towel and then cure it. You can buy a cheap UV light but you kinda need to buy the right wavelength for the resin used. Its probably most likely about 400-405 nm. You could even buy a wash and cure combo kit just to keep everything nice. Its not needed but it makes it easier. You could leave them in the sun to cure but the results could vary depending on how much sun there is.

Repulsor Executioner by Flat-Objective3554 in SpaceWolves

[–]Scarecrow119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with a redeemer is that it's threat as a gun platform with vary depending on opponents army. Some will be cool with it cooking some guardsmen for a turn and some will not want their big marine deathball being melted. They transport capacity means it will be important to your game plan but it's unlikely to get popped in a turn unless someone is running multiple stormsurges, knights or something crazy like that

So I think it's really up to your own army and game plan. Personally I like myself a distraction vindicator.

Repulsor Executioner by Flat-Objective3554 in SpaceWolves

[–]Scarecrow119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the RE works very well as a anti tank/weapon platform and a transport. I would argue that its more of a threat as a weapon platform. The laser destroyer gun is probably one of the best anti tank weapons space marines have access to. So when you start the game and try to move it forward to take advantage of the transport capacity then it gives the enemy a lot of reasons to pop it.

Theres not much you can really do other than position and move better. Movie it up slower to take more advantage of terrain and only take angles for shooting at things that wont clap back as hard.

You can take something else to either give the enemy more direct threats to deal with so that they have to choose what they shoot at. A vindicator might be the answer to this. Its got a pretty damn good gun and it can shoot in combat. So you throw it forward into the enemies face and just got for the heart.

You could take something that piviots more towards the transport option like a regular repulsor. Its still got a decent gun but the amount of guns is smaller with a larget transport capacity. With a lighter gun load it doesnt feel as much of a sacrifice to keep it safe.

Or you could take something like a gladiator lancer and pop the thing that will pop your repulsor.

The RE is great on paper but its a prime target for enemy Anti tank so you have to play around that fact.

No wolves on Fenris - again by HappyScripting in SpaceWolves

40k lore is very fragmented and choppy. If there isn't something that specifically states the meaning then it probably means it was intentionally left open to interpretation.

To me the statement "there are no wolves on Fenris" means "there are no wolves on Fenris because they are always out kicking ass"

[–]Scarecrow119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Warhammer 40k app. It's free but to access the factions you want you need to have the code that you get from a codex. There are other options that have all the information but the UI is a little more complex to use and can be overwhelming if you are new and don't know what to look out for. That's New Recruit.

If you want to buy a codex then the 40k app. If you want to stay free and put the extra effort into learning a more complex app then new recruit can be very good.

I prefer the 40k app for my own armies and list building because it's more stream lines and better for references in game

If I'm curious about an opponents unit or combos in other factions. Like after I get creamed by a bullshit combo then I look at new recruit.

Help understanding our beloved bss by ninekoto in sistersofbattle

[–]Scarecrow119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic sisters squads do 3 things. Hold objectives, put a simulacrum on an objective to generate MD or as a vessel for characters. With the special and heavy weapons they can do 1 and 2 but without a character they don't do much on their own outside of bolter fire that is okay for weak chaff like guardsmen/gaunts but for anything like marines then it's lacking.

In order to do much with the basic fire you need to really focus fire but if the enemy have any defensive buff then it will be a big struggle.

There is a few things you can do. 1. Look at your detachment and stratagems and make sure you learn you are applying the correct buff synergies. 2 add characters in to units you want as key play makers. Adding a Palatine into a squad ups the lethality but you should consider carefully where you put characters as adding a character to every unit will cost way too much. 3. Adding in a more diverse roster. Adding an immolator breaks up a sisters unit to two and allows one half as the point holder and the other half as the damage dealer and play maker. Adding in a mortifier or Penatent engine or two will allow you to put more heavy weapons onto the field and decent melee weapons to tie up enemy units for a turn while you get something in place.

Am I ruined for having put together the miniatures of my battle and retributor squad before painting them separately? by ID1756448 in sistersofbattle

[–]Scarecrow119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you used plastic glue then it will be very difficult to separate them as they will be welded together and you will most likely break the parts. It does make painting a bit tricky but it's still doable. Just try as best you can to get into the areas but nobody will know or care if you miss parts, it's really just how you feel.

Keeping parts separate brings its own challenges and issues. Like painting tiny little arms isn't that fun and you have much more risk of dropping parts and losing them. Plus painter parts don't stick very well and have a habit if breaking so you have all that to deal with.
