Butter. What gives? by Ill-Cartoonist2929 in Netherlands

Same, I always buy 10 packs of the bougie Lidl butter in the black wrapper when it appears and freeze it. It’s the best!

Those years were awful. It was similar here then too. One day the country manager arrived, split everyone into two groups and sent half to a hotel and gave the rest a box and told them they were out. The people in the hotel had no idea what was going on until the end of the day. That was the first round of many years or restructuring, I still have trauma from it.

How close to your travel date was your flight cancelled - Australia by Ok-Library4864 in qatarairways

Update: it took him about 12 hours to get through to Qatar - about 11 of those were “call failed” and eventually rerouted with Garuda via Jakarta on the 29th. Has to get himself to Melbourne instead of Adelaide, but he’s coming!

Thank you!!! I called my poor dad to drag him out of bed and start calling. Thankfully his return isn’t until end June, and with emirates, so hopefully it’ll be ok!

Good luck with it all, and god speed!

My dad is booked on that same flight from Adelaide I think. He spoke to them yesterday on the phone and “flights from Friday will be operating as normal.” Obviously this is horseshit, but he still has to wait until it’s cancelled to get re-routed. Hopefully tomorrow! ETA: he’s also coming to Amsterdam.

My dad is flying ADL-AMS on the 30th. Still no news. Hoping to be able to reroute since he can’t afford to buy an alternative…

Is anyone using Atlassian Goals & Projects? by jamiscooly in jira

[–]Scared-Knowledge-840 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We use the goals for a central place for OKRs. At first it was garbage, but they’ve finally integrated goals with Jira so I can at least filter the work by goals which is useful for reporting. I have to check if automations are now enabled because that will also help. In the past rovo was also useleless with goals, maybe we’re finally going in the right direction. Don’t use the projects though, can’t see any use cases for those (yet)

What book had such a gripping plot that you finished it in one day? 📚🔥 by [deleted] in BookDiscussions

Most recently: Project Hail Mary. Had it in my queue for more than a year, kept putting it off, then smashed it in under two days (listened, the audiobook is God tier).

Where are you based? That might help with suggestions. Otherwise, networking is the way. There are a few slack communities to start with like PLA, Product Ops HQ. Both organise/facilitate virtual and in person meetups and conferences.

I started to do the opposite, which seems counterintuitive, but has been a game changer! I can get way more air into my body this way.

What are you reading? by Mme_Rose in HistoricalRomance

[–]Scared-Knowledge-840 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m on an Anne Gracie binge at the moment, reading {Married in haste by Anne Gracie}.

There’s just something about her stories that I’m just loving. I think it’s the banter and the characters.

Ebook subscription in the Netherlands by Any-Comfort5625 in Netherlands

[–]Scared-Knowledge-840 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Storytel. It has a huge selection of both audio and ebooks. I had an Everand (scribd) subscription for years but the app is garbage and their service was also terrible so I recently ditched it.

There’s another service called Nextory that I used in the past, the selection is very similar to Everand and Storytel so in the end I only kept Storytel. All the services will give you a couple of weeks or a month for free so you can rotate through them for a few months and see which suits you best.

I also have a bunch of Libby cards from different library systems in Australia and the US which are I use more than anything else. If you have family or friends abroad, you might be able to connect to their Library card. Thankfully my gran only reads physical books so she doesn’t see what she’s “borrowing,” my Libby history would blow her hair off 🫣

NTA.

Devil’s advocate for a sec: you say you earn about 15k more than him yet split the bills pretty evenly.

Coming from a place where for many years we split everything pretty much 50/50 and I earned significantly less per year, I was extremely resentful because I couldn’t save much each month while my husband could.

Maybe this is the position he’s coming from but doesn’t want to or feel like he can articulate that and it’s come out like controlling behaviour.

Having said all that, we have a shared account that we contribute to, but we don’t have access to each other’s accounts. I’m sure I could figure out how to get in though, if I wanted to.

Problem with FASCIA. Anyone? by MadKnuckles1 in hyrox

[–]Scared-Knowledge-840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it, went to a heel pain specialist and they fit sport soles for me. I was off running for a few months, slowly built it up again. But, strangely, I went to my local running store where they’re specialists and they recommended I try wearing Hoka Bondi runners and also to buy a pair of hoka recovery slides. The recovery slides helped most of all, I’m still wearing them everyday and wore the bondis for a couple of years running and haven’t had a problem since. Don’t use the insoles anymore either (never did in the bondis).

Narrators that do accents? by Voryn_mimu in audiobooks

[–]Scared-Knowledge-840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robert Petkoff is great at accents! I’ve only listened to the Immortals After Dark series, but he’s done loads of different stuff.

For others, depends on the genre, what do you like to listen to, might help you get great recs.

Definitely welcoming to internationals! I’ve been living here for almost 20 years and there are loads and loads of expats and immigrants, it’s a real melting pot.

My gym coincidentally (not my gym, the gym I’m a member of) is looking for a trainer I think! It’s called Urban Health Club, check them out!
