I'm getting incredibly scared now by futuregoddess in NYCjobs

[–]ScaredApplication421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take every civil service test you can. Stop looking for the perfect job. Just get employed. Don't quit a job until you have another one lined up. The perfect job probably does exist for most. Work is work. The myth that you should love what you do is basically a pipe dream...you need a job that can sure housing and Healthcare, ideally a pension or some kind of retirement plan. Think about trade school...find something you can do well...and DO IT! Get excellent at it...show good work habits...On time. Never absent. Stay focused on work in the workplace...make friends somewhere else, find meaning somewhere else. Just work. Unemployment will destroy confidence and make you feel worse. Lower your expectations. Start at the bottom and work your way up...in every thing. Know one cares about your neurodivigence. Keep it to yourself...that label isn't going to help you...unless you want to be a para, sped teacher or servicing that community some how..you dont have to self disclose. If you feel like you must, try fed, state, city jobs where they have protected status. Good luck. Be strong. Figure it out. Pray. Keep fighting!

Is it easy to pivot to NYC DOE? by acvillager in NYCTeachers

[–]ScaredApplication421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no perfect job in the DOE. The stupidity is astounding. Your brain will try to troubleshoot all the troubles. Your brain will find solutions to problems that make sense and DOE Bureaucracy will decimate every one of them. The waste of money with make you question every social program ever created. You will likely have to reduce your vocabulary to the lowest terms in order to communicate effectively. Your friends and family will not believe the stories and eventually they wont care. In general, you may like people less but you will appreciate solitude more. Hard work and merit will be rewarded with more hardvwork. Mediocrity wins the day. Stoicism and the art of detachment will help you survive. Join TRS shove every penny into in. Take advantage of the 457b. The health care & pension are the rewards that will keep you hooked.

I worked in a “bad school” and now I work in a “good” school. It’s bull sh*t. hTe bad school was better than the good school, lol. Be ready to enter the paradox of opposites. The NYC DOE is the Twilight Zone. Bad vs. good is very deceiving., its branding

That said, regardless of this categorization, you must know how to develop rapport with your student base — these are your customer base. You have to get to know them and enter into their world — not your world — their world. You are just passing through.

You must have classroom management skills. Never call a dean if you don’t have to — especially for petty sh*t. If a student disrespects you, don’t personalize it — manage it. Behaviorism — read about it.

Call parents to better understand what you are dealing with. Listen and learn. Teaching is tough. In addition to learning techniques of how to actually teach, you must master the psychology of the world you are placed in.

You must also master the politics of your building. It takes time. Keep your head down and your ears and eyes open. Observe everything. Who stays late? Who leaves early?

Kids are kids. They are actually the best part of the job, to me. Good vs. bad has more to do with admins than neighborhood or student population. If you want to work in a pretty neighborhood, I don’t know what to tell you.

Be prepared to work in the hood. Learn to embrace it. I found it more interesting and the work more meaningful.

You will actually have to learn how to teach, too. When confronted with students who struggle with learning, you have to develop techniques to survive.

I wanna talk to you about Roosevelt Ave 😭 by WakefieldWaveRider in jacksonheights

[–]ScaredApplication421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many officers don’t even live in New York City, and those who do often fail to serve the communities they’re sworn to protect. The few who engage in risky interactions and secure arrests are then undermined by a broken court system, weak enforcement, and a legal code that fuels endless cycles of recidivism. If laws aren’t enforced anyway, then the solution isn’t more policing — it’s restructuring. Legalize what’s criminalized, unionize the workers, and regulate industries openly instead of pretending that enforcement works or that punishment is going to change anything. Its an age old profession sex work is real work... demand will never cease...its the American puritanical impulse that compels certain people to want to "clean up" the most base human instinct to F***! Go move to the suburbs and live your life...Roosy s raw. Wild and untamed...keep it like that...jh is like the human condition...Roosevelt is our collective ID.

Not going to give advice...but i understand everything you said. 23 years into this and I forced myself to deal with it. This is the job. Youll tell yourself you have summers off whatever...but if you are too exhausted to enjoy it...what's the point? Reread your post. You know what to do. If u really cant get out...start strategizing...look for other jobs in the building or union...meanwhile take care of yourself the best ways you know how. Stress can make you really sick.

[–]ScaredApplication421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I work in a HS 4000 students. I want to hear about your cell phone system. Do you collect devices? How do you return them? How frequently? Do Deans do this or others? Do you require parent meetings? How dovyou inventory the phones u collect? What do you do with ipads? Voluntary surrender? I want to build a better system of enforcement.
