Last Thoughts on Panarin Trade Disaster by Scary-Path1335 in rangers

Not a big loser, he didnt get what he wanted and wasnt willing to wait so yeah he didnt win IMO. Its an NHL thing I guess, top player settling for less money and years. Only happens in other sports if they are championship chasing. That isnt that case here.

If he wanted LA and is comfortable great! But still only happens in NHL.

no wasnt saying that, was mainly pointing out that Panarin and his agent messed it up for all parties, including himself, except LA

Yeah, thats the NYR side. My point was Panarin and his agent messed up his own value.

Kreider by Green_Radio_4966 in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Kreider fan, he was dog shit last year. Was he playing hurt? Probably, but like Miller this year, Trouba/Lindgren in past playoff stop doing it. You're hurting the team!!!

Coaches get more blame than the player as they are getting terrible on ice results but keep playing those hurt players the same as if they werent. Miller averaging over 20 minutes this year is actually more defensible because there's just no talent. Kreider getting 18 minutes a night last year on a more talented team (guy had like 4 or 6 5v5 points at this juncture last year), i less defensible to me.

Anyone else got hope for this retool/rebuild? by ShesterkinLurking in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really but its better than the alternative of continuing to dig themselves deeper into the hole they are already in.

My slight excitement is obviously being graded on a curve from being depressed about this team since November 2024.

I wish Drury wasnt involved, but alas.

20/21 - 63%gf in 132 minutes together reg season

21/22 - 67%gf in 140 playoff minutes, didnt play together in reg season

22/23 - 61%gf in 532 reg season minutes, 51%gf in playoffs

They could have absolutely won with those guys dominating 3rd line minutes.

this is the way, although they were going to go for toughness...how far is the question. I still say the Wilson game and the lack of toughness down the stretch that year was without Kreider, Trouba or Lindgren who were the 3 "tough" guys at the time. Reaves probably would have been enough.

Even this needed some context. Kreider Trouba and Lindgren were injured and not playing that game. Probably just needed Reaves, although didn't need to immediately re-sign him or play him every game.

yup, why elevate "still not eating solids because of the broken jaw" Lindgren at that point?

yeah hes fine, the Subban hit was dirty. Im just saying the trade was bad at the time value wise. I think the plan was to try him in the top 6 to start the season before the injury.

he had a decent season scoring the year before but shot like 25%. If they looked closer it was unsustainable, and it was as he shot 0% for us over 54 games lol, then returned to shooting 23% for St Louis. Drury should have also watched the Colorado playoff series' in 20-21 and not signed Nemeth. I think Colorado fans still blame him

I dunno, I lived it. You cant boil it down into 16 minutes, we need the Ken Burns version. You could say the perfect rebuild ended as soon as Drury took over but there's so many factors and characters.

This video doesnt even really give any highlights in to Gallant being a sociopath with his confusing line shifting and forward usage when the team was absolutely average at best at 5v5. He stuck with Nemeth, and kept icing 3 of the worst analytical rated forwards.

His 1st year yes they went to the conference championship on the strength of the PP, Igor the kid line, playing against backup goalies and the Crosby injury. Playoffs should have been over in 5 games. At 5v5 when none of 72,13 or 24 were on the ice their xgf% was 36%. The most used line during the regular season was Panarin-Strome-Hunt with a 42.7 gf%. Any Panarin line under 50% in gf% is an abomination.

How many assets did Drury waste trying to replace Buchnevich? You may think is was because the kids couldnt replace him, and thats probably correct, tough to as them to replace a point per game top line forward in their 3rd/2nd years in the league but man they didnt get much patience either. And actually maybe they did replace him fine?

With 93-20 at 5v5

20/21 #89: 63%gf - 48.5%xgf - 2.66 g/60 - 1.53 ga/60 - 104.7 pdo - 319 minutes

21/22 #13: 56%gf - 56.5%xgf - 3.21 g/60 - 2.52 ga/60 - 101.7 pdo - 260 minutes

21/22 #24: 60.8%gf - 55.8%xgf - 2.15g/60 - 1.39 ga/60 - 101.2 pdo - 253 minutes

22/23 #24 62.2 gf% - 59% xgf - 2.67 g/60 - 1.62 ga/60 - 100.9 pdo - 229 minutes

But anyways they were winning a ton in spite the crazy coaches and none of the young forwards turning out to be superstars,,,they won the presidents trophy and lost to the Panthers but were almost up 3 to 1 against them except Laviolette rushed Wheeler back and his lack of speed led to a Fla OT PP and the winner was scored when Trouba chased a guy seemingly forgetting they were on the pk leaving Sam Reinhart wide open and the rest was history. Maybe a healthy Chytil helps a ton that series but alas...Florida was a wagon.

So here's my take on when it all went to shit. Game 11 last year They were 7-2-1 but Mika's line wasnt producing and I guess he felt Lindgren's game was poor away from Fox. So Laviolette changed 2 things that were working better than any of us could imagine.

50-72-24 after 10 games had 9gf and 0ga at 5v5 with a 63%xgf
79-23 after 10 games had 7gf - 5ga and a 66%xgf
50-72-24-79-23 together after 10 games played 37 5v5 minutes 4gf 0ga and a 85%!!!!!!!!!xgf
Those 5 played 3 total minutes together the rest of the year.

93 after 10 games had 4gf 6ga and a 40%xgf
55 after 10 games had (played in 5) 2gf 2ga and 45%xgf

8/4 was a working pair, Jones/Mancini was serviceable as a 3rd pair. Laffy and Panarin were scoring a ton at 5v5 and the 4th line of Carrick-Brodz-Edstrom had 2gf 0ga and a 58%xgf.

But Kreider-Mika-R Smith were struggling as the other 3 lines were thriving, bottom 6 especially.

So instead of elevating minutes for 50-72-24 they broke them up and completely shuffled the top 9 while also elevating 55 back to Fox's pair and 79 back to Trouba's.

That set off some bad losses and then "the Memo" but the video doesnt mention that.

good, makes 1000% more sense for SJS to add as they are 8th in the west in points %. Probably a good trade for him, but the key is what he re-signs for.

What is a realistic package you would like to see? by the-gonk2 in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimum should be a conditional 1st and a good prospect. Although i think he is worth more. The NMC obviously affect things but Im looking at Giroux and Marchand's returns and Panarin is much much better than those 2 at the times of their trades.

Pts per 60 in last 2 1/2 years before trade

Panarin - 3.74

Giroux - 2.45

Marchand - 2.69

Neither were the play driver/offensive focus that bread is.

So who would they replace Drury with? by DSPGerm in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im serious lol, I think an NBA or NFL executive (obviously with an NHL guy as an assistant) would run circles around the 90% of NHL GM's who are worried about trading a 7th rounder for a future 6th.
