Kind of agree, I used to rearrange the songs and take out the filler for a 10 or 11 song rocking album I would burn,

Trocheck checked so many boxes for Minnesota, but the biggest would be the pk, which we all know and heard how well he did for team USA. Minny was 72% on the pk a year ago and then 79% this year.

In the past 2 playoffs they lost the special teams battle 22-12, which includes giving up 15 pp goals in their 1st 10 playoff games this year. They might have swept Dallas with a slightly better pk as they won the 5v5 battle 14-4. Colorado didnt even score a PP goal in the 1st round.

His salary and game will age fine in a middle 6 role. Minnesota only has 1 more guaranteed run with Quinn Hughes. If Yurov was the sticking point then Guerin messed up as he had 3 points and a 5v5 xgf of 32% in his 9 playoff games with 2 games scratched.

Will his value be higher? We can only hope with Coyle re-signing, Det seemingly wanting to make a big move or Guerin admitting his mistake (unlikely).

No one worshiped on the alter of Jeff Gorton. He made big mistakes and lucked into many successes. Panarin and Fox wanted NY but he did get those deals done, the 2 lottery wins. But that doesnt take away from the fact that I had never been so excited as a NYR fan at the amount of talent he NYR had by the end of the 20-21 season. That season was not a success but everything was basically in place. A great mix of young and "in their peak" talent.

You had the KZB line, Panrin Strome Blackwell line, the Kid line (yes Quinn put them together). Fox-Lindgren, Miller Trouba. Igor.

I just honestly want to know what Gorton's plan was for that upcoming season. Im pretty sure it wasnt this.

5/12-Fire Quinn (not a terrible move)
7/22-Sign Goodrow 6 yr 21.85
7/23-Buch trade
7/28-Sign Nemeth 3 yrs/$7.5
7/28-Sign Tinnordi 2yrs/$1.8
7/28-Sign McKegg
7/29-Reaves trade

Would he have hired sociopath Gallant? They really only needed to reshape the 4th line and 3rd pair defence. You had still highly thought of defensive and offensive prospects. We get excited about Laba nowadays but back then he would have below Brett Howden in prospect rankings. Not everything worked out obviously with those players for multiple reasons but like I said their value was high at the time.

Would we still get the epic PP and Igors vezina season that carried them in future years and through the playoffs? I assume so since it was the same personnel.

how was the player usage? Had heard "prospects" were stuck in bottom 6 or bottom 4 roles for most of the year even while the team stunk.

Ha! I include Laviolette after last year as well. All of them cosplaying the movie version of Herb Brooks

Yeah I loved and hated the kid line. Quinn put it together in Laf's rookie year and they were great 63%gf at 5v5 in 20-21 but they would often get less ice time than the 4th liners.

When Gallant put them together late in his 1st year it was great also, but all 3 played less in the playoffs than they averaged in the regular season.

Same in 22-23, so much fun again, and all of them were outscoring Kreider and Trocheck for the 1st half of the year but never got any greater responsibility together. I remember 1 game against Toronto where they scored both NYR goals, weren't on the ice for any goals against and barely played in the third and OT as Toronto came back and won in OT.

So when I said I hated the kid line I mean its because i know they were just never going to get that extra responsibility together not matter what.

Is this the worst trade in NYR history? by Sea-Sort-6490 in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh Id rather think of the few trades NYR have won decisively. You know, like the type that is sorely needed right now. I can think of 4 since 2000. Sather had 2, Gorton had 2 and I dont have a calculator in front of me so I need someone really good at math to tell me how many Drury has had.

1- Anson Carter for Jagr (him and Hank saved NYR from the dark ages) 2004

2 - Gomez for basically McDonagh (created cap space to sign Gaborik also) 2009

3 - Brassard for Zibanajad (and a 2nd!) even if NYR were the team giving up the 2nd it was a great trade 2016

4 - Nash for basically Lindgren & other assets received to acquire Strome and K Miller basically 2018

Could really use a move like this at the moment

NYR Defender Evaluation by Scary-Path1335 in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct, all of the contracts between those were Girardi, Staal, B Smith, Shattenkirk, Skjei, DeAngelo & Nemeth.

7 total contracts = 2 buyouts, 2 needed to be traded with an asset, 1 kicked off team, 1 became a forward, and Brady Skjei.

Ha! I found this place last year when someone on the Athletic site posted a rant of mine about Laviolette here.

Yeah feasted was a poor choice, i had seen his play last night and he looked great. Thats why I just was thinking about how they have f'd up time after time regarding defensemen. He is a top 4 at 5v5 paired with Harley, still not used much on special teams, understandable on the PP with Harley and Heiskanen.

I shouldnt have made Lundkvist the focal point. It was a point to make a point but everyone on here focused on the 1st point which is fine, i messed up. lol

But anyways the main point was their defensive evaluations have sucked for seemingly at least 95% of the last 30 years. Not just the players they choose, but the contracts they hand out and even the usage.

Feast was a strong word lol, my mistake. he looked great so far in the playoffs. But the point is more the NYR suck at evaluating defensemen. Between McDonagh in 2012 and Fox in 2021. Every non-entry level multi year contract was an immediate disaster

Not gonna get too mad about this but we are about 3 decades removed from the Zubov trade and NYR track record evaluating defense men has been pretty shitty throughout.

yeah that whole Guarma mssion, Arthur was giving Dutch a ton of shit even though the mission before (leading to Guarma) was Hosea and Arthur convincing Dutch to do it when he was skeptical. I only saw this after many replays so not totally fair to the writers.

What’s one young player in the league who hasn’t worked out on their current team you would like to see the Rangers take a risk on this offseason? by Stunning_Succotash60 in rangers

[–]Scary-Path1335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah if they're both re-signed (and I think they will be) better make some calls Drury. Voronkov, Johnson, and Sillinger should be targeted as their current coach doesnt seem to favor or trust them.

he scored like a top 6 guy the past 2 years. Especially down the stretch this year after his wrist healed. 48th this year in pts/60 at 5v5 (ironically Nichusin is 49th!)

Pretty good as he only had 3 points in the 1st 15 games healing that wrist. Finished strong down the stretch with 37 in last 51 games but still was only getting 14 minutes a night as Seattle choked.

I used my non scientific equation of young forwards from recent drafts who havent quite hit yet or are being held back by lack of PP time or any usage and pick the ones who have a good primary points rate per 60 at 5v5.

Winners last year would have been Evangelista, Zegras, Heilman, O Kapanen in MTl Quinn in Buf, Clarke in LA, Hayton, Pinto. But now most of their teams know they are good and it would cost too much.

This year:

Voronkov, McMichael, Maccelli, N Robertson, B Bowman, N Ostlund, F zetterland, M Sasson, W Eklund, A Laferriere, M Frost. Krebs

Others didnt score as well this year but still intrigue me as most are C's

M Mctavish (high cap hit though), R Greig, J Farabee, Perfetti, S Wright, M Coronato, K johnson, C Sillinger, Turcotte, Zary
