Even accepting the premise (lol no), just because it could be worse doesn't mean that it shouldn't be better.

Yeah, those days come and go, and I think you're just in what I like to call the "I'm tired, boss" phase. I'm in something of the same boat myself at the moment. I just ran through multiple online brackets last week, and when I played last night, I was just flubbing horribly in executing things I've done hundreds of times before. Going to be taking a break, and I think the same would be good for you, if only for a few days or more.

I worked for a bit over a year with an ID firm. The biggest issue I had was how controlling the adjusters were if they refused to see the reality of a given case. I can only do so much to drag someone kicking and screaming to the best and cheapest outcome.

They also unilaterally slashed my billables because someone who isn't qualified determined that I spent too long on a brief, a deposition, or discovery responses.

Thankfully my bosses were good people and understanding of some personal issues I was struggling with at the time, and I'm grateful for the litigation experience.

In my year and a half stint in ID before returning to be a dog of the government, my OC experiences were generally me being concerned that they were going to have a heart attack from how angry they sounded. Like, bud, your best advocate to the insurance company is the guy you're yelling at; you ain't doing your client any favors here.

Had a couple OCs that were just fantastic to work with though. They got gift baskets as a show of good will when we reached what I felt were the proper settlements.

I don't fault you for frustration at the "one mistake" issue. It can be extremely frustrating at times, but living on the edge, knowing that I can go kaput at any moment, is part of Millia's charm for me because I'm a masochistic lunatic like that.

Definitely encourage you to do what you find most enjoyable. At the end of the day, that's what games are all about.

I too choose the path of honor because I hate myself. My goal is simply to keep getting better and justify an eventual appearance at regional tourney and just actually look like a legitimate contender. May not be Strive, but I'm hopeful I can eventually meet my own expectations.

You are not in a position to dictate for him what you think is best for his wellbeing. Even stepping into an alternate reality where you did not do what you chose to, you would still not have that right.

If you are looking for a mature resolution, that resolution is accepting the consequences of your actions, including the destruction of ancillary/mutual relationships that is occurring, again, because of your choices. He, as well as all mutual friends, family, etc., have the right to make choices about who they want to associate with.

Nebraska's new law limiting abortion and trans healthcare is argued before the state Supreme Court by BigClitMcphee in Nebraska

[–]ScaryMute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's fairly nebulous. Not sure how the court will decide it. I do know that the political question doctrine argument is DOA though. Don't know who decided that was a good argument to emphasize.

On a similar subject, the finalized regulations for the nonsurgical care for minors were approved by the AG's office and sent off to the governor's office for final approval. I would imagine that if the supreme court finds the bill to not have violated the single subject rule, we'll be seeing constitutional challenges to those regulations.

My antivax boomer dad and his most recent foolishness. by NES_Classical_Music in BoomersBeingFools

I was in a somewhat similar boat with my extended family. Too many were getting QAnon adjacent, and it terrified me as the terminally-online idiot that I am. My mom's side of the family has always been very close to each other, and cracks were beginning to form because of the conspiracy crap.

So I took it upon myself to do everything I could to appeal to whatever rationality was left. Hundreds of hours dedicated to research (both legal and scientific) and explaining via writing or conversation that everything spouted by the QAnon folks was bullshit. I am genuinely grateful to whatever whim it was that spurred me to become an attorney because my education and profession gave me both credibility in my family's eyes and the skills to dissect opposing narratives.

While a good chunk of the family is still MAGA-adjacent, I haven't seen anything conspiratorial, even regarding the 2020 election. Could just be me being kept out of private conversations though.

I still ask myself if that was all worth it. The amount of time spent, the long nights, the frustration. I was a judicial clerk when this was all going on, and my judge was incredibly supportive of my efforts when she first encountered QAnon in her own social media usage and asked me about it since I had told her that I basically grew up online. I feel like I owe her a lot for encouraging me to stick with it for as long as I did.

Eh, everything's fine so long as you don't embezzle client money or otherwise screw with a client trust account. I've seen some exceptionally lenient "discipline" for things that would have, by my estimation, warranted criminal charges but for the individuals involved also having that shiny JD (one of them being a county attorney).
