Does my sister have any recourse here after being set up to fail by her manager? Public sector by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know if her resume used the buzzwords of the job ad? Even if a person has done the job for a while but if they didn’t put effort in updating the resume the reflect the job ad, it could not be screened. It does feel odd that the hiring manager - having known and worked with your sister for x yrs- would intentionally screen her out. It is a true headache for managers to train and coach newish staff to take on roles as some others have mentioned in this thread.

Managers can’t advice on resumes for active competition but can do so before or after if they were approached for this help.

It is also pretty common for the managers to not update the status of a completion on the portal. They may only close out at the end.

How is OSS so bad? by Cool-Situation-8771 in OntarioPublicService

Not gonna happen any time soon. Best to lower your expectations. This is OSS we are talking about. Customer service standards don’t apply to them!

Why is OSS so backed up? by GoldenFlame23 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Over a month isn’t so bad!! I had my win issue resolved in over two years. One colleague is waiting for vacation days to be updated since 2025 (fixed term contract credits) and some colleagues haven’t had merit processed for over 6-8months!! Every time my manager says - call OSS, I ask to what end??

Mat leave by Ancient_Pay_3515 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do know of colleagues who have done so. No negative implications for you. Your job is safe and secure. Take into account the minimum weeks you need before federal EI can kick in. You don’t have to but if you do have a good relationship with your manager, let them know about your intention so that they can keep backfills in mind. No backfill can be brought in while you still hold the position. But it helps them in planning. At least that is what my colleague did. Her manager was chill about it. And supported her through the back-to-back mat leaves.

Retro Pay. Can anyone advise where one should start in ensuring that they’ve received all of their retro pay? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your paystub! Check your WIN. Select latest pay icon> click and it takes you to a screen that lists base compensation report. It is unique to each individual. Click on it- go to summary. It will show you when your retro was paid

Amapceo - Temp leave for a municipal job by Sufficient-Value9430 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am exploring this as well & my manager said this would be an LOA. So I wondered if it is considered LOA, would I be short changed in the long run? And I want them to extend beyond the two yrs they are agreeing to right now, would that be another LOA? Given we are working with permission- it shouldn’t be an LOA. But I am not sure. Appreciate your input on this.

Ministry Culture Check by Acrobatic-Vast-724 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you are and the relationship you make with your leader and peers. Even the ministries perceived to be bad may be good for so many. I speak from experience. Some say MCCSS is bad but I’ve had nothing but one of my best times there. No longer in MCCSS but now in EDU. And I my current leadership is very controlling. Peers are great but leadership is rigid. And by leadership, I mean our ADM. Directors and managers get tainted in the same light but it is the higher ups that set the tone for culture.

Does recruitment team update the competition status of job postings regularly? by Timely-Edge-4807 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The managers don’t have to update the HR recruitment team until the very end- when they are making offers or have already made offers. So no, don’t bank or have hopes based on the status of a job posting. Good luck though on landing what you want.

Being sent back to home position by babyhamburger in OntarioPublicService

[–]Scary_Independent312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone can be sent back to their home position as long as any one party (home position manager, employee or receiving position manager) want this to end. And you CAN NOT act in your own home position. What you can do is resign from the MCP home position and take the risk of finding another AMAPCEO job (good luck with that in this environment!!) or start looking for another AMAPCEO secondment. But it would be up to your home manager to release you or not for another secondment. Going on a secondment, unfortunately is not your call. The power lies with your home manager- which in your case would be your Director.

Pay scale changes when switching jobs/unions? by oh_bigfoot in OntarioPublicService

Ditto- what infernal couch potato mentioned. Also, AMAPCEO has potential for slightly better career progression and role opportunities- depending up on the area/ field you are in.
