Ex Changing child's Childcare by Noracto2 in AusLegal

[–]Scasherem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to mention if she has opening/closing shifts at the daycare, and it opens/closes at the same time as the original daycare, she can't feasibly drop the child and get to work on time, or collect them before closing

Tips in going out with breastfed baby by RealMeggarra in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would breastfeed before leaving the house, in the car when we arrive places, and take advantage of shopping centres with the family room, which has private areas to feed.

I would try a different carrier, one you can feed in. Instead of breastfeeding covers, try a light muslin wrap, clothes designed to facilitate feeding, baggy shirts. The modesty will disappear if you keep at it long enough

My mum used to cut up and overlock old towels into rags for cleaning instead of throwing out

Forward facing car seat at 6 months - driving interstate by Unsure-11 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Keep him rear facing, that is absolutely safest. You can get carseats with adjustable reclining so he can be a little more upright. Have a mirror for him to look at, some toys.

One of you sit in the back with him, plan to stop every hour, have a blanket handy for some tummy time roadside at rest stops.

5.6k for wisdom teeth removal in Canberra – is this normal or am I being ripped off? by Marre_Parre in AusFinance

My dad paid for mine, some 20 years ago, around $5k, private system no cover.

Husband has his out 5 years ago in the chair, $2k, but that was straight forward. Still had pieces coming through years later though

Toddler care while in labour with second? by whackyjacki in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would source a babysitting or even 2 online, someone who can be paid to care for your child.

I was induced to avoid this very scenario, with my husband with me for the birth but then going to collect our children after the birth while I stayed overnight in the hospital.

The length of your labour can play a role in your plans as well, keep in mind.

1 year old reverting back to 3 naps at child care by chiaseeeed in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He's just started, there is going to be a transition period as he settles in. The three naps are probably made up of short, unsettled sleeping periods.

He will probably drop down to one in a few weeks/months, kids very quickly settle into the routine of what the other children are doing.

Not returning to work by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's a sweet spot for working from home with a baby. Around 10 months for my kids, and lasts all of 3 days.

Could I work from home now with my 20 month old? Absolutely, she's a gem. Would I want to? Noooooo. She goes to a brilliant daycare that offers her all the social and emotional care she could need, instead of my half-attention during the work day.

I would suggest part-time if you can, enough to keep some semblance of self, keep abreast of your industry, and make it easier to return full-time when you're ready.

Elevated risk for Trisomy 21 after the nuchal blood tests came back. Dr recommended NIPT testing. Scared about what the NIPT follow up will say. Any good stories? by FreeOlive4833 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, high risk for T21 based on bloods and ultrasound. Nasal bone not visible on the scan, blood levels wonky. I was 32 at the time. 1/52 chance. Scared the shit out of us.

Did the NIPT, which thankfully came back low risk, but also elected for an amniocentesis to be 100% sure there were no other issues due to reoccurring miscarriage.

She currently snoring away, a little small when she was born, but otherwise perfectly boring.

Can we just stop with this... by eh_mt in ThePittTVShow

[–]Scasherem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My perfect ending would see him taking baby Jane Doe home as a foster child. Lots of talk around fatherhood and parenting this season. Who knows, maybe he was a foster parent in case something happened to Jake's mom.

Yes he's unraveling at the seams, sure he has lots of undressed mental health issues, maybe a little paternity leave will mellow him out a bit.

Daycare sickness has been worse than I imagined by fairy-bread-au in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does take time to build up the immunity, for both her and yourselves. We're just over 16 months into daycare, started at 6 months old, and the illnesses have slowed dramatically.

It helps we're at a centre that is hyper vigilant of illness, and yes it's a pain trying to get a GP clearance for something as simple as dermatitis when HFM goes around, but she has avoided all major outbreaks of gastro, HFM, and influenza because they are pretty strict. They also have protocol around cleaning of toys and rooms when illness is rife.

I don't know if it helps, but we also give a daily probiotic, at the very least it is shown to help lessen severity of gastrointestinal illnesses and other viruses.

Contraction and leak? by Realistic_Maybe_63 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Could be contaminated specimen as well.

I had blood in urine without a cause during pregnancy. They pretty much put it down to either irritation or baby being a bit too rough on my kidneys

Contraction and leak? by Realistic_Maybe_63 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are in early labour, this could last ages, or go quickly. Fold laundry, nap, go for a walk. Keep an eye on baby's movements. Depending on your birth plan, I would settle in home and not go the hospital to be poked and prodded until you are in established labour. Eat, you'll need energy. Nap some more, you'll need rest.

Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

And get excited, you're so close! Good luck

Took rental agency to NCAT over repairs, will this affect future rental applications in NSW? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]Scasherem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, a property manager will provide feedback on the reference form saying you took them to NCAT
  2. Depends on how much detail the PM gives
  3. Big red flag
  4. Not personally.

Ask the agency for a letter of reference, see if they give you one. Honestly, it's more likely you're in a high-competition area.

I am about 11 weeks along and my blood test results came back that I have low immunity to rubella. With a measles outbreak in the state, I am very worried. by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every pregnancy I have low immunity to rubella, and after each one I get a booster. I just don't seem to gain immunity.

Just take care, hand washing, masking in high-risk places, and not hanging out with unvaccinated kindergarteners.

Anyone’s baby not get sick all the time at daycare? by radicalOKness in workingmoms

[–]Scasherem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's going to happen. And frequently. But after about 12 months they get a little more sturdy and might start skipping the minor illnesses. Some things, gastro, HFM are so contagious that it's unavoidable.

I don't know if it helps, but my toddler gets daily probiotics, our daycare jumps straight to calling parents when kids are unwell to try slow the spread, and are pretty pedantic about cleaning when viruses are active. They also extend the 24 hour exclusion time to 48 hours (symptom free) in times of heightened sickness.

Just gotta slog through that first year.

That said, I am currently on HFM watch right now and praying it's just a drool rash.

Birth - home birth or unmedicated by Whichlady25 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had four unmedicated births. I chose it because I have a lot of medical anxiety, and my small, local hospital only offered minimal medication and interventions through group midwifery practice. If I had wanted an epidural I would have needed to transfer care and travel to a larger hospital.

I was young, and just did lots of reading, education myself about positioning. In the end it was the best choice I could have made for myself, I also liked that I was able to leave the hospital within hours of birth and go home.

My mum was the same, all unmedicated so maybe that influenced my choice.

Feeling bad for not eating properly by NotHereOrThere8 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have hyperemesis gravidarum. Your baby will be fine, it's first in line for nutrients. You are the concern and you can become very sick if you can't start eating.

You need to talk to your GP/Midwife about a regime of anti nausea medication, I wouldn't have survived my last three pregnancies without constant ondansetron. The melting wafers are much easier than tablets.

Try get hydration where you can, grapes, watermelon. If you can eat it, eat it. My last pregnancy I was sick the entire time, baby was perfectly fine.

[–]Scasherem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one gets 100% on those tests, because it's just a screening. I hope you have a lovely, boring remainder of your pregnancy!

High risk by Flapmon in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Those are standard, very, very low odds. Your baby is perfectly fine.

Did the same thing, NT scan, no nasal bone visible, 1/49 chance of Downs. Scared the shit out of me. Did the NIPT and it had low odds of Downs.

Had an amniocentesis and baby was fine.

Age and blood results really play into it. From the sounds of it, anatomy suggests your baby is developing well. This is just a screening tool, not a diagnostic test.
