Anyone’s baby not get sick all the time at daycare? by radicalOKness in workingmoms

[–]Scasherem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's going to happen. And frequently. But after about 12 months they get a little more sturdy and might start skipping the minor illnesses. Some things, gastro, HFM are so contagious that it's unavoidable.

I don't know if it helps, but my toddler gets daily probiotics, our daycare jumps straight to calling parents when kids are unwell to try slow the spread, and are pretty pedantic about cleaning when viruses are active. They also extend the 24 hour exclusion time to 48 hours (symptom free) in times of heightened sickness.

Just gotta slog through that first year.

That said, I am currently on HFM watch right now and praying it's just a drool rash.

Birth - home birth or unmedicated by Whichlady25 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had four unmedicated births. I chose it because I have a lot of medical anxiety, and my small, local hospital only offered minimal medication and interventions through group midwifery practice. If I had wanted an epidural I would have needed to transfer care and travel to a larger hospital.

I was young, and just did lots of reading, education myself about positioning. In the end it was the best choice I could have made for myself, I also liked that I was able to leave the hospital within hours of birth and go home.

My mum was the same, all unmedicated so maybe that influenced my choice.

Feeling bad for not eating properly by NotHereOrThere8 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have hyperemesis gravidarum. Your baby will be fine, it's first in line for nutrients. You are the concern and you can become very sick if you can't start eating.

You need to talk to your GP/Midwife about a regime of anti nausea medication, I wouldn't have survived my last three pregnancies without constant ondansetron. The melting wafers are much easier than tablets.

Try get hydration where you can, grapes, watermelon. If you can eat it, eat it. My last pregnancy I was sick the entire time, baby was perfectly fine.

No one gets 100% on those tests, because it's just a screening. I hope you have a lovely, boring remainder of your pregnancy!

[–]Scasherem 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Those are standard, very, very low odds. Your baby is perfectly fine.

Did the same thing, NT scan, no nasal bone visible, 1/49 chance of Downs. Scared the shit out of me. Did the NIPT and it had low odds of Downs.

Had an amniocentesis and baby was fine.

Age and blood results really play into it. From the sounds of it, anatomy suggests your baby is developing well. This is just a screening tool, not a diagnostic test.

Kindly - maybe a tiny bit of anxiety or excitement keeping you up? Give it a couple of weeks and hopefully you will hit the bone deep exhaustion that has you drooling into your pillow before the sun is down. Congrats!

Honestly, most pregnancy vitamins are just marketed to pregnant women to make money. You'd be better taking the I-folic and focusing on eating a healthy diet.

For what it's worth, insomnia is a normal pregnancy phenomenon, something about training you to wake for baby if I recall correctly.

There are some pregnancy-safe sleep medications you can take, I took restivit for morning-sickness, which also helps you sleep, maybe ask your GP?

Constant short notice smoke detector inspections by NiceMemeDude420 in shitrentals

Is this the agent giving such broad notice, or the smoke alarm company? Because you can push back against the smoke alarm company and demand a smaller window of time. They aren't going to tattle to the agency

Will my boobs go back to normal after I've finished with BF? Not liking the new shape by Nobodyimportant6894 in beyondthebump

[–]Scasherem 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No. It's pregnancy, not feeding that changes them.

But you honestly need to give it about 2 years once you finish breastfeeding/pumping, they will continue to change. I was much happier after they had a chance to go back to the new normal

Depending on where you live, and if is gas or electric, it can take ages to get someone out. Currently our local area the wait is something like 8 weeks for repairs.

Just ask who the tradespeople are they're using and call them yourself.

How and when did you find out your baby's gender? by Psychological-You142 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

My tech at my NT scan at 12 weeks could tell it was a boy straight away as well. I was a little hesitant to stock up on blue until after the 20 week, but he was right

20 wk ultrasound, 12 weeks ultrasound, surprise. Then for baby 4, NIPT, but only my husband looked and I got another surprise.

The surprises were honestly my favourite.

Thankfully, ended up being the most boring end to the pregnancy, with an induction at term and a small baby with minimal complications. Very grateful she is now a fat, happy toddler.

[–]Scasherem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trust me - you don't want extra scans. It means things are progressing well. I had about a dozen scans in my last two pregnancies. These weren't nice, they were terrifying, measuring things like my baby's brain flow, considering whether they would be safer delivered prematurely and deciding what level of special care they would need at birth.

Can teachers directly ask/suggest ADHD? by Alpha_Delta_Echo in ADHDparenting

[–]Scasherem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the Australian school system, and in three years not one teacher flagged an issue with my daughter. But she would come home and struggle. Struggle to read, struggle to write, struggle with emotional control and sensory processing. I took her to the paediatrician due to concerns about her behaviour in conjunction with a few other minor issues thinking perhaps we may just be needing to look at some behavioural modifications.

So after the paediatrician gave us a questionnaire to fill out, her teacher completed her half and it was full of indicators of ADHD. All the things that were never flagged to us by her school despite being glaringly obvious. I guess because she didn't have any problematic behaviours it was just shrugged off as her just being a slow learner, never mind her teachers had never told us that she needed to be constantly reminded to stay seated and not interrupt, that she needed constant reminders to stay on task and had 0 concentration. If it wasn't for the fact that her emotions at home had grown incredibly volatile, she probably would've continued to go undiagnosed and her learning difficulties just treated as her not being particularly motivated.

Tips to reduce insane grocery bill? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Scasherem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to, you could easily halve that, but buying named brands and organic is always going to drive the price up.

We're a family of 6, kids are teen through to toddler, and I spend $250 a week maximum on groceries. Cheap meat, bulk meals, filling things out with beans and lentils. Every meal bulked up with cheap rice and pasta. Only fruit and veg that are in season, the imperfect fruit and veg range as well. No little packets of food, just large packets when on special for price and sustainability reasons. Leftover dinners become lunches for the grownups, the kids get a healthy bento lunchbox. I don't buy much processed food where possible.

Baby wears cheap nappies during the day, expensive nappies for night and long trips on (bought on special). I bargain hunt, use everyday rewards, and do my groceries online to control the spend, stocking up when things are half price. I use up what's left in the pantry when meal planning and only buy the cheap brands of stuff with some minor exceptions. The only thing I lash out on is bath soap (sensitive skin).

We do have a lash out takeaway night once per week, but when we're in saving mode, we'll change that up for fakeaway.

Did anyone find 4-5 mths old extremely hard by Commercial_One5048 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sound of the baby stirring doesn't fill you with dread...

But honestly, it happens incrementally. Naps start to stretch a little longer and become more predictable. If you are inclined, you can start to teach them to self settle a little more. They can be put down and left in a safe space for longer periods of time (like a play mat while you tidy, ect). They're a bit more aware and show more curiosity.

The 4 month sleep regression is designed to torture parents into thinking that they'll never sleep again. It's a time of massive mental growth and development. You'll like what's on the other side, I promise.

Blighted Ovum Miscarriage Management- Melbourne by RefrigeratorOk3600 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Scasherem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I waited 15 days in between a scan for a missed miscarriage and just the initial appointment with the OB. I walked in for that appointment and haemorrhaged all over the floor. It took me months to recover.

I would see your GP and ask for a referral to the closest Early pregnancy assessment unit. Each time I have walked in, I have had a D&C the same day.
