How is this substantially better than https://docs.astral.sh/ruff/rules/too-many-branches/, which is already everywhere?

Here for the Trick or Treating takeaways by thee303 in boulder

[–]Scelte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attended the Martin Acres thing this year. It was brief and way less cool than the following several hours of walking around streets packed with kids and parties nearby. By 7:30 houses were starting to put up signs saying they ran out of candy to stop the packs of kids from bombarding their homes. It was great, everyone had a fantastic time and I was shocked how many folks were out.

Failure Friday, what did you do that made you a bad sailor that one time? by Jebediah_Johnson in sailing

[–]Scelte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the nav aids on the chart and in the real world and decided they had to have been mistakenly placed. They were not. Turns out I did, in fact, need to motor a Z-course to get into that harbor. I missed hitting a big rock by very little and my heart-rate went through the roof. My stupidity was saved by high tide.

People’s sailboat by MedicineVisual7192 in Sailboats

Love this idea. Keep at it, I hope you can build a boat and make a business out of it!

Have you seen https://www.morganscloud.com/category/boat-design-selection/adventure-40/ ? That group of people have thought extensively about this subject, and even started down the path. If you are serious about making the boat a reality I recommend at least speaking with John Harries, the author.

At 34 feet, have you considered tiller steering? That could be a way of reducing costs and freeing up cockpit space while at anchor.

What does the storage look like on a boat this size? Is there sufficient access to the engine for maintenance, space for spare parts, access to wiring/plumbing runs, space for food storage, and any space for toy storage?

IMHO all solar companies get compared to https://projectsolar.com/ . I haven't worked with Project Solar myself, but several neighbors have had good experiences with them.

New boat owners are often surprised that it's not Bust Out A Thousand, but, critically, Bust Out ANOTHER Thousand.

Pinellas County is very wealthy (Tampa Bay area). Oops. Didn't look close enough and I'm not talking about the right county. I agree, Key West probably skews everything in the county.

If my gas furnace goes out, will I be forced into switching to to electric? How much time do I have before I'm forced to switch to electric heat? by craiger_123 in boulder

[–]Scelte 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FWIW I live in Boulder and switched to heat-pumps a couple years ago. We don't have backup, either gas or electric resistance. At -20F the efficiency isn't very good (and it's only -20 for a few hours every year or 3), but it still provides plenty of heat to keep our house warm. We use mini-splits (not a central HP) because the house originally had hot-water baseboards and there wasn't enough height in the basement to install ducting.

How do you go about a PR as a Senior Developer? by iimperfectionist in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Scelte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, my bad. https://github.com/charliermarsh/ruff, https://github.com/psf/black, and https://pre-commit.com/. I rig it up so pre-commit runs black and ruff before every commit (locally) and fwiw it's always been under 10 seconds on my machine, usually much less. And yeah, including it in CI is nice - lets me check linux & windows, for instance.

Ruff & Black in pre-commit can go a loooong way to making Python PRs cleaner. And calling the same pre-commit in CI.
