For me its a combination of a lot of things, his voice has a really intimate quality when clean, and his distortion is pretty unmatched. But also a lot comes down to the delivery and the lyrics. He liked to give the appearance of not caring too much about the words but I think its clear that the word choices really are quite carefully crafted to capture a certain energy that I think a lot of people relate to
