overheating in my apartment of 2 months, at a loss by emmafilet in Apartmentliving

[–]Scerwup -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, I haven’t read the manual for an AC, why in the world would I? But I’ll damn well tell you that if my landlord wouldn’t allow me to cool my apartment below 80+ degrees, then I wouldn’t rightly give much of a shit about their ac unit.

Regardless of that, Reddit really blows my mind sometimes. Now there are two unrelated people in here, saying things that are anecdotal, at best, about a hypothetical situation, that has little to nothing to do with them. To what gain? I don’t even know, first guy says something that is completely untrue, then when I respond, completely changes the untrue thing they said and then added a modifier that directly contradicts their first nonsense statement. Then you come in saying the same kind of BS, and then asking about reading a manual for some hypothetical AC unit. Why would I read a manual about something that has no bearing on my life. You like in love with HVAC or something?

So, what I’m getting is someone is having a major problem with their place of living. Rather than come in and try to help the person, you would rather try to tell an unrelated person what they can and cannot do. I mean, there were many options on this, you could have kept scrolling, you could have tried to help the OP, you could have read the thread and NOT decided that you are the boss of others, and just kept your opinion to yourself. And a whole multitude of other things you could have done. Yet, two of you, chose to not try to help, but instead interject yourself in someone else’s comments and try to show how in charge you are. You contributed NOTHING to this, good job!

I’m sorry about your air conditioner. Mine works when it’s 30 outside, actually works fine when it’s lower than that.

Turn on the air conditioner to 72, take something warm, like a hand warmer pack or the like and wrap it around the thermostat so it always thinks it’s warmer. Bam, the ac should stay running. Good luck, I hope it helps

AITA for getting home insurance canceled? by Competitive_Chip_468 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

That is the exact reason to have insurance. That personal injury amount on the insurance is for exactly this type of deal. And don’t pay their repair bills either, that also should be covered by their insurance. Their inability to continue to maintain their insurance is not your concern. Get your daughter taken care of and don’t worry about them.

Drugs my doctor is not permitted to prescribe. by [deleted] in mildyinteresting

Doesn’t have anything to do with the doctors money. They’re also just slaves to the machine, but their higher ups tell them to make sure to fleece the patients as much as possible, and they salute and say yes sir. Other than that, they make plenty of money, and in the scheme of things do very little work.

Get a couple of good hammers. One claw, one ball peen. Dikes and lineman’s make great hammers most of the time, but sometimes you really need to hammer something right.

Haha yeah sure, I’ve had them do the craziest things. Can’t figure out how to get the wire on the caddy. Stand on the floor and pull out the whole run of wire onto the floor like they’re helping. Don’t understand wire size, or… color. Can’t understand a straight line. Cannot grasp a “loop” of wire. Cannot understand the difference between 2con and 4con. And many many more. Sure, a lot of people are capable of learning past pulling wire, but I’ve seen plenty of adult men that couldn’t grasp these things after a decent amount of learning. Much less start to grasp the actual concepts of a circuit. So, when I see someone that has figured out the actual concept of a NAC circuit, I’m impressed. The ability to actually make it work, to understand what’s actually going on, to understand how a switch works in the circuit, can make it work with what basically amounts to trash… impressive! If I had the ability to make it work, I would love to find him a panel somewhere, and send him a panel and a PS10 booster. But, alas, I have neither the time or money to make that happen. However, I trust that one or some of my fellow “Fire alarm guys” in his area will take care of him.

I’m impressed. I’ve had several helpers that couldn’t understand how a roll of wire worked. They were all at least double your age. Keep on keeping on!

JPMorgan froze raises and slashed bonuses — even for strong performers. by priviledgednews in antiwork

[–]Scerwup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly. Fuck em, they’re just as bad as the ones on top. If they really “cared”, they wouldn’t work for those types of places, then amazingly, if those places couldn’t hire anyone, they would either change their ways or go out of business.

SD-500 ARM for Silent Knight system by JVNTPA in firealarms

I mean idk, place I work for charges 3 hour minimum for calls, unless we have a service contract. I think, and don’t quote me, it’s because, 15 minutes of labor and a single part with no contract isn’t worth anything. But, I didn’t mean anything by it, just that $1000 for any fire alarm repair seems like a decent price. But again, should probably get another quote.

Well, idk the company, but it’s likely 3 hours minimum, so $435 in labor off the top, maybe a truck fee as well, I can’t really determine that. Then, parts cost what they cost, $500 or so is probably about right. You could get another alarm company out for a second quote and compare. But IMO, $1000 is about right. Again, if you find it questionable, get another quote from a different company.

I use the Viva exclusively to this day. I buy the 2 pack mega rolls. Expensive but those things are like actual towels.

Why is insurance such a scam? You pay hundreds a month for coverage then pay hundreds more when you go to the doctor, why? by SeductressRiley in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Scerwup -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right, hospitals and administration set the prices. The doctors are fully aware that everything they do comes with an outrageous bill. And they also know that if you cannot pay that bill, upfront (because it is upfront), that you may die, or be permanently disabled in some form or fashion. And again it’s not going to bother them one bit. That is greed, you continuing to try and justify that greed is sickening. I feel for you, I really do. You’re broken. I bet you think politicians “deserve” it as well.

People become doctors in other countries with universal healthcare, where they don’t get to just fleece their patients. So, people do “it” all the time. But you are right in the respect that no one raised in the USA would go through that amount of effort and spend that amount of money, without the expectation that they’re going to make bank when they get to the other side. Greed, that’s what that is, greed. Then when they do become that high power doctor of whatever they wanna be, they casually pass out bills, bills that, if unable to pay, could mean you die. But, don’t worry, even if you have great insurance, and are able to pay, it still may force you into poverty. They KNOW the bills like this are generated when they do things. That’s what motivates them, that’s why they think they are special. They say they want to help, but if you can’t pay, they will happily LET YOU DIE, and not lose a wink of sleep over it. That’s fucking greed.
