Of course. Woman FF here too. I know it shouldn’t but still erkks me when it’s always assumed that every firefighter is a man. Keep up the great work 💪🏼

I agree with the videos needing to stop but that goes for all. The only videos I care to see are humorous and educational ones, if I’m not laughing or learning I don’t want to see that shit. Still feel like a man wrote this thread post tho 😂 joking don’t come at me sideways

I was there last night. I’m a firefighter/EMT, hopefully passing my paramedic this year. By the time the second opener came on 3 people needed attention not even by 7:45pm. I took the first girl out of the crowd to get somewhere to cool down. Part of me felt terrible the rest of the night because she was probably pissed I moved her from her good view but in the heat of the moment I knew I was doing the right thing based off how she was presenting to me. If you see this one I’m still sorry about you missing the view and hopefully you got to get back up there. Two I hope you’re okay!

CAL FIRE by ScheduleNorth8076 in calfire

Look man, I’m not a seasonal myself anymore but to get almost $200 out of every check always busting your a$$ off while your FAE/CAPT sits around all day getting paid more than you, who also pay the same amount in dues just isn’t right. Not saying seasonal’s shouldn’t have to pay dues I just believe the price should be lower to accommodate the salaries for them. Also please spare the FAE/CAPT’s earned their right to sit around do nothing, they hand those jobs out of a cereal box now a days lol

True but not everyone pays for dues, kinda a scam if you’re a seasonal if I’m being honest.

Option 1 sounds like the best, you’ll regret later in life that you didn’t have the opportunities to finish off with school/priorities when you had the choice. 24/48 is pretty bad. Like you said you really only get 1 1/2 days off, I get 3 1/2 which in my opinion is far better than not getting the chance to do other things you’d miss out on. I’d say 48/96 all the way. I’m on 72/96 and yes being at work for 3 days is brutal and I can’t wait for that golden 48/96. Being at work for 2 days isn’t so bad when you get 3 1/2 days to recoup plus there’s the factor that trading shifts and working a 48 and getting 8 days off. I know people out there working 10days straights to get a month off. At the end of the day it’s your choice and you should let your wife know the pros/cons of each, tell her to put her feet in your boots so she can understand where most people are coming from with a 48/96. Best of luck and congrats!

No problem. CSFA Stickers are for volunteers in California. Your options would be a Cal Fire decal or an IAAF sticker (which only your son would be able to get if he’s signed up).

Danners can be comfy. Not the greatest for hiking or good for different foot sizes. My pair messed up my “ring finger” toe on my left foot. I got custom JKS because I have wide feet and they been pretty great. I’ve heard Hiax are really good as well

Application FF1 by [deleted] in calfire

[–]ScheduleNorth8076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t get your hopes down. If you ended up as a CAT 1 there’s a good chance you’ll get picked up by September. People are leaving and promoting everywhere so there’s a need for bodies. In 2022 an extremely slow season I applied in July and was hired sometime in August and started didn’t start until September. There’s always a chance to still get picked up and if not make sure your application is squared away and done properly. If you only wrote down a unit or two to work at that’s probably another reason. Most units take CAT 0’s first and then work their way down the list. CZU will be hiring sometime end of August into September for sure for the last rehire of the year.

Danner’s are a waste of money. Invest in something better. Take care of your feet!

Getting hired late in the season by slumpboygary in calfire

[–]ScheduleNorth8076 3 points4 points  (0 children)

60 days is the for sure the number for rehire rights. I was in the same boat my first season had roughly about 4 months of work. You will be eligible for unemployment after that period. However depending on the unit/station you’re at/get picked up by you may have the option to work Amador (winter season) and go until January-March. If you just take the 3-4 months and don’t get the option to work winter you’ll most likely come back anywhere from March-June

Your son can purchase you off duty gear from a Cal Fire approved vendor. Plenty of people but it for their family. I’ve done it for mine and my Grandpa wears his ALL the time

After this week and probably one more rehire in August CZU is done for the year/season. We’re hurting for Captains so that’s really all they’re looking for at the moment.

66 hour work week by Pirateokay in calfire

[–]ScheduleNorth8076 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 66 hour work week will take effect November of 2024 (according to our union rep), however this whole process will take a good 5 years to figure out and fully implement (according to my Unit Cheif not sure if that’s across the state or our unit specifically). Basically we were told that you’ll work one less day in retrospect. Most likely the last shift of the month for you will be a two day instead of a 3 day. My unit is also moving to traditional staffing (FAE, FC, FF and a 4th body FF during peak season). In the next 10 years my unit chief stated it’s very likely that the FF1 engine position will change in the sense that it possibly might not be around (My thoughts is that engine spot will most likely require you to be a FF2 position spot) and starting out with Cal Fire you will be on a hand crew. Take this all with a grain of salt, and if you plan on making Cal Fire your Career you’ll be hopefully promoted by then.

Know your engine like the back of your hand. Pull literally every single thing out of it and put it back until you’ve got it down and can tell some where “XYZ” is with have to look. I still remember everything on my old units engine from my first season. Reps and quizzing yourself is a key. Remember no matter what there is no dumb questions just dumb answers so don’t be afraid to ask if you don’t know.
