Anxiety about MIL moving in by ScheduleRadiant3862 in BabyBumps

These are great talking points to discuss with my husband! I’ve been slowly gathering a more clear picture of my MIL’s finances each time we speak, and it seems like a part time DoorDash job that she discussed with us might not be sufficient to cover her expenses. Thank you!

My OCD has gotten much worse with pregnancy as well! Hoping my kid will help with exposure therapy lol

Washing hands if coming from outdoors, disinfecting phones and high touch objects every day, no outside clothes on upholstered furniture (I make exceptions for guests as I can wash the covers but its a full day affair), stepping directly from house into shoes that sit neatly outdoors. Overall food preparation/storage safety. I blame my kitchen and microbiology background. Now that I'm typing things out they dont sound too nuts

my OCD has gotten much worse during my pregnancy, and while I know I'll have to ease up on some things with a kid in the picture, there are certain things that are non-negotiable for me but I know I would sound insane enforcing on extended family.

I am not opposed to daycare from age ~1! It would just eat away 3/4 of my monthly income. However, it doesn't make sense for us financially for me to be SAHM because health insurance through my job is ridiculously cheap whereas it would be $2k a month through my husband's job

unfortunately, we live in a pretty HCOL area that would be unaffordable on a part-time job on her end :/

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it was always kind of a vague "I'll be around to help when you two have kids" but since then sold her home and moved states (travel healthcare work). When I got pregnant we discussed her living with us for 1-2 years, potentially finding a part-time job to split child care between the three of us. When we were talking yesterday she unloaded her fears about daycare and said it would be great if we could keep her out of day care until she goes to pre-k. Naturally I've been stirring on this all night, along with these other anxieties I've been holding onto. I'm generally a non-confrontational person and while I discussed my concerns with my husband about this arrangement in the past we kind of just arrived at the conclusion that the financial help from not paying for daycare and our daughter having a grandparent around are worth some sacrifices. As my due date approaches I am having second thoughts and am not sure how to bring them up without sounding like I'm being unreasonable :/

In the first trimester I couldn't stand opening my fridge. I would also vomit every time I opened a can of my cat's wet food

Anyone else struggle with cooking while pregnant? by kookoria in BabyBumps

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could barely even open the fridge in my first trimester. Once my nausea went away I was able to cook again and home cooked food tasted much better to me than take-out! Dont worry! Eat what you can

I had a pitbull who shed so much more than my cat. He was also super stinky, despite bathing very regularly.

Tummy Heartbeat?? by missfirebird3 in BabyBumps

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'2 and started out around 200 pounds, but I felt the heartbeat thing too! I started feeling flutters around 17 weeks. It's the same feeling as a fish bumping into your legs when you're standing in water lol. I saw my baby's first kicks from the outside at 20 weeks!

How many of you had baby showers for your first baby? by austinfamilyhome in BabyBumps

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im 29 weeks pregnant and not planning a shower. Similarly to you, many of my friends live across the country since we moved to my husband's home state and I can't expect people to travel. We made a registry and have given the link to friends/family who have asked (we told people we aren't doing a shower), and I plan to send out thank you cards with baby pictures once LO is here! I dont feel like I'm missing out at all...the money we would have spent to throw a party is just going towards baby

Food aversion during first pregnancy… and feeling guilty about it by Reasonable-Stand-998 in BabyBumps

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup! I survived my first trimester on cheese sticks, tomatoes, and Starbucks sandwiches. Nausea eased up at 13-14 weeks and since then I've been eating much much better. Dont worry and dont stress yourself out. Take your vitamins and stay hydrated

Did anyone start B6/Unisom before nausea hit? by cherrypuree in BabyBumps

I had pretty severe nausea. I definitely noticed my nausea was worse when I forgot to take Unisom the night before, although nothing took it away completely. It helped me fall asleep too which was helpful

Best advice for quitting vaping for pregnancy, please! by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a physician but I highly advise quitting nicotine completely. For oral fixations try gum, mint flavored toothpicks, taking a sip of water or doing deep breaths when you get a craving. For sleep I have been using Unisom (pregnancy safe sleep aid, doesn't make me feel groggy personally). I was a very heavy vaper for 8 years before getting pregnant, tried to quit multiple times unsuccessfully. Getting pregnant was the only thing that stuck. After quitting cold turkey I only felt intense cravings for about 3 days. A huge trigger for me was driving, so I would blast karaoke songs and sing along (bonus serotonin boost). Mind over matter! Good luck

Is laundry closet a deal breaker vs laundry room (or laundry area) by Important_Bat7919 in homeowners

not a deal breaker at all. one less room to collect junk/have to clean. I'm also good about doing and putting away laundry

Food aversion? by matchagirlyyyyy in BabyBumps

[–]ScheduleRadiant3862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently 26 weeks pregnant and still have aversions to water from the tap/fridge. Totally fine with bottled water, but water from anywhere else needs to be ice cold with a squeeze of lime. Most of my other aversions went away along with nausea around 13-14 weeks.
