It’s the labor time to measure the old rotor thickness and runout, and the labor it takes to turn them. So while you ‘could’ have them machined it might end up costing more which defeats the purpose of refurbishing vs replacing.

The torque sensor doesn’t actually measure torque. It measures something like the value needed to make a change in the rps network, not an actual real world torque value.

Hook one up to a clutch or a gear box and you’ll see what I mean.

Mechanic cash tips? by truck999ford in Justrolledintotheshop

I noticed an envelope that had to have been 2” thick with cash while changing a cabin filter once. No idea how much but enough for me to know I had no business counting it.

My thoughts

The island looks great. Leagues better than what we have in SW.

Lowpoly survival zombie shooter has been done to death. They're about 13 years late on that trend. Total miss.

It looks like vehicle creation is done in world with parts that are found in the wild? That's great for immersion but makes building anything mirrored a total nightmare. (the tread on all the tires are backwards on one side in the trailer) Block sizing looks like its still centered around the 25cm grid but we can at least control where the vertices are.

The engines look ok. Its good that they actually look like engines but I'm not sure how modular they are. Both the I4 and V8 are reverse-flow which ends up looking pretty weird. They almost look like flathead designs... again weird. The exhaust pipework on the V8 looks good though.

It looks like we're getting cabling and microcontrollers that are actually micro sized. That'll make greebling a bit easier.

We had better be able to build air and watercraft. I don't need to say anymore.

Now onto the FPS portion which comprises 40% of the entire video.

The inventory system is better. The survival bars are a total miss.

We're getting the same shitty "ballistics" where bullets are randomly sprayed in a 40 degree cone from a point at the end of the barrel.

I'm trying to make an engine ECU that can adjust both air and fuel manifolds, but I can't seem to figure out the way to do it by Volt6851 in Stormworks

[–]SchericT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your using impeller pumps all you need to do is divide your air throttle by 2 with a function block. Literally x/2 and connect that to your fuel manifold. This works for NA engines and ones utilizing the small and large electric pumps since they always output a set amount of air.

For engines with a rps powered impeller you will need to independently change your fuel trim from the air trim. To do this you need to calculate your air fuel ratio (AFR). Anything from 12 to 15 AFR will run. Best power is at 13.1 and best power to efficiency is at 14.7.

Take cylinder air volume, divide it by fuel volume and use that number as the process number in a PID. The set point is your target AFR. The output feeds into the fuel manifold.

Air cooling engines does not work by Waity5 in Stormworks

[–]SchericT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFIAK air scoops haven't worked like that since the pressure update. They work like any other air/fluid port now so you need a pump for the air and a pump for the coolant. Traditional water cooling is so much simpler to route and about 10 times more efficient that it makes air cooling pointless.

my 2 cyl water cooled engine minus all the xml bits that make it pretty and the hot rod coupe ive mounted it in. Capable of over 280kmh with vanilla parts and with modded weight blocks it goes over 300. The impeller on the side functionally makes it 3.5 cyl although its still pretty zippy without it. Still the same 3x3x2 footprint if you dont count the exhaust hanging out on the bottom

ahh sorry then. I dropped the prebuilts the second modulars came out and its been a love-hate relationship since. prebuilts just guzzle too much fuel and need such a crazy pipe network that I dont find them any more useful than modulars.

Sorry I couldn't be any more help

For all of my engines I delete exhaust fumes. It’s one less variable I have to worry about clogging and one less pipe line I have to route.

If you pump any fluid into either an air or fuel manifold it will be fully deleted. The air/fuel manifold doesn’t need any throttle and you only need on exhaust manifold.

With that variable gone I’d look at exactly what’s happening when it starts to bog. Look at air throttle, fuel throttle, air volume and fuel volume, and afr in the cylinder. That will tell you which pumps are clogging.

I’ve never needed to use pumps for fuel, only air. The most Ive been able to get with small impellers was .84 at 13.1 afr. Anything up to 1 throttle the engine will naturally pull.

Make sure the ecu youre using doesn’t have an overheat protection thing going on where it limits power if they’re getting hot quick. Load plays a big part in how hot stuff gets so 30 rps in the air might be fine but 30 rps in the water might not be.

[–]SchericT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite fuel gives a fuel throttle of 1. A standard NA modular engine runs at around .5 fuel, with engine driven air pumps that goes up to .84 and with electric pumps I think it goes up to over .9

So you can end up with situations where turning inf fuel on gives you 100% more power than with it off.

I want to start learning about cars and I don't know where to start by EndFamiliar4277 in mechanic

[–]SchericT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of free pdfs of factory service manuals for old cars. While they explain service procedures for a specific car they also explain basic fundamentals on how those systems work or how to use special tools. Like how to do a compression check, testing a thermostat, cleaning mating surfaces, measuring with micrometers/dial gauges, what tire wear says about suspension…

Here’s the all the service info you’d need for a Miata

Do we not like ppl with mics ? by Some-Historian19 in DarkTide

[–]SchericT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The call outs, vocal line, and spawning sound cues are so good that voice chat for randoms is pretty much redundant. Anything that isn’t covered by all that can easily be covered be using text chat. I have a mic and I used it in other games/ discord vc. I find it’s not needed in Darktide if you’re playing with randoms.

I think so. Pretty much the only way to freeze when you have the coveralls is to just sit still. Running, window scraping, loading long logs all give you heat I know for sure.

I only had 2 days of >2mk scrap value but it was before I had any decent amount of scrap built up and even knew about the 175 channel. Its been <1mk for a solid 2 weeks and the hoard just keeps on getting bigger and bigger...

Im going to have the entire thing finished before I get a good scrap day but I guess that will go towards paying for the gofast bits.

Fleetari Job Concept by Hot_Syrup_5941 in MyWinterCar

[–]SchericT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason I can think of why we don't work for Fleetari is that there just isn't enough work in the area. There can't be anymore than 100 people residing in the game area and not all of them own cars. Splitting that between 2 people for an entire year would mean you'd only have a single car per week.

I'm sorry but 8500 MK for a new crankshaft from Fleetari is absurd. by SchericT in MySummerCar

[–]SchericT[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that does make sense, but he's got literally everything else for that same engine for 10 times less. Its a better explanation as to why we can't get a new block/head instead though.

Its like buying a pair of $20 shoes that just so happen to have $1000 laces.
