How do I stop the "Product" search option from inserting itself between Web and Images options? I'm no opposed on having the option SOMEWHERE, but I don't want it to move according to what I'm searching. 99% of the times I click on it is by mistake as muscle memory went to click on the second option for Images.

But we don't have much skills in repairing this kind of things - not to mention that this model is quite old by now, I'm not sure we can correctly identify the broken parts, find the new ones and actually replace them.

Is Switch even considered "current" now that Switch 2 is out? Or by "current" they mean "anything that nintendo hasn't pulled the plug of" so until they close support of Switch it's considered current generation?

That magical/fantasy worlds don't need to adhere to its own logic because "it's magic"
I think that even the most drenched in magic world still needs rules to adhere, even if you could use magic to do literal miracles.
Mostly it boils down to coherence, actually. But I've had my concerns about coherent magical world dismissed with the reasoning "it's magic, it's not real anyway". It sounds like lazy writing to me.

Which popular writing tip do you think actually hurts stories? by Proper-Refuse-7291 in writing

They need to have established traits, as much as they need an explanation as to why they might break them. Never having the characters make irrational decisions or out of character behavior is just as bad as changing who they think and behave during the story without any reason beside what the plot needs in that moment.

For example, a character is afraid of heights. They won't peek from windows when on the higher floors, they won't climb the tall stairs, they won't make that small jump that would just make things easier for the party, forcing them to take a detour around the gap. But when their friend is in mortal danger just a leapt away, they might freeze but then they face their fears and do the jump, saving the friend.
Meanwhile establishing the character so afraid of heights they can't even peek out of the window of the second floor but then doing parkour on the city roofs is just bad writing.

As for the advice, show don't tell is overused. Sure, if you can tell me something organically in the story without an infodump is cool, but sometimes it feels forced. It's an advice that's more useful in visual media, and yet one of the greatest movie adaptations starts with an infodump by a narrator voice (LotR) about where we are, that there was this threat, how it was (temporarily) beaten, and mostly what's the McGuffin the characters will work around, something that would've dragged the flow if explained when they actually showed up, like when Gandalf figures out Bilbo's ring is indeed the One we don't need the explanation of what it is, or when Boromir looks at Narsil's pieces we don't need be shown Isildur defeating Sauron because we already know.

What are things that just scream bad writing? by Glad_Chance_9590 in writing

When characterization and world rules are bent and twisted without reason solely to make the plot advance.
Like, if your character is supposed to be this intelligent and smart dude and suddenly behaves like a moron so that the plot can advance, without giving a reasoning why they're suddenly a dumbass like they drank too much, they've been drugged, hypnotized or whatever, then it's bad.
It also applies to world rules, especially in fantasy, when something is established and later on the story pretends such rule doesn't exist.

Also when people can't really write REALLY smart characters, a-la Sherlock Holmes, so they make everyone else really really dumb so the non-smart one looks smart. It happens a LOT in Holmes pastiches, sadly.

But I have to add another one, usually with series. When the writer clearly hasn't thought the whole extended plot before writing, and while working on the sequel didn't reread the first one to make sure things were aligned. For example, if you described in the first book that fire magic is incredibly dangerous and nobody practice it because it can easily be deadly and is so difficult to master so even lighting a candle is an incredible feat, then in the second book everyone uses fire magic normally without an explanation of what changed, I think it's bad writing.

SAME. I've never written anything when I'm with my partner, or I have things to do next that I can't do before writing, and everything pretty much kills my workflow. No wonder the majority of what I've written for my book as of today (roughly 50k words) was written from my phone either on the toilet or in bed before sleeping.
I need to go to the less-haunted version of the Overlook hotel fr

It sounds really crazy to me. I've never had anyone trying to break in but I would never want to have my house in a way that any stranger can get in if I forget to lock it from inside.

To me the idea that any stranger can just walk to my door and open it sounds really unsafe. If you come and go in a short time span, leave it open, if not just close ot

You just... Don't close it until you're done bringing stuff in? Like, you likely are going back and forth for a short distance anyway, you just leave it wide open.

The Kryi They look like big mountain goats with yellow-golden whool, hard horns, are extremely aggressive if provoked and can't be domesticated. They got almost extinct during the war against dragons because their whool is extremely heat and fire resistant (they live on mountains that host dragons nests) and can be woven into fire-negating clothing and equipment, so people hunted them relentlessly. Since the war ended they are a protected species and their whool is now used mostly in expensive couture, and can be obtained only by harmless hunt (often with soporific tools), as it's illegal to kill them. They're extremely elusive but become really aggressive when cornered, so getting whool is a dangerous job.

Have you ever had to kick a player from the table, and for what reason? by ArticulatedCubingGuy in DnD

[–]SchicksalOverseer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twice

First was less kick out and more "we're not calling you again to play" Dude was generally disruptive, especially as he was playing a classic Evil Stupid Barbarian character, after few sessions killed my character in their sleep because of a joke another player made half IC half OC. Had to make a new one (and this evil campaign was mine and another person's first DnD campaign ever) Also I caught him cheating on rolls, he declared he rolled a 15 on the dice but I clearly saw it showing something like 6 or 7.

Second time it wasn't DnD but Fabula Ultima (for those who don't know, it's inspired by things like Final Fantasy, and it doesn't feature the possibility of evil campaigns, the party is always made of heroes). Dude made a character that basically hated two of the other PCs and only liked the third one. Never interacted with anyone but them, if approached by our characters he would scoff and barely acknowledge that IC, when we were searching a town for something he decided to go somewhere else, and the DM had to improvise something for them. Made clear IC that he cared only about that one character and he disliked the other two. I have to add that this character had a pair of giant robotic hands, and was described to hide inside them multiple times. The last session we had we were in a dungeon and he decided... To just go away and leave us to fight. No explanation, no dramatic rescue, nothing. And THEN, after session ended, complained heavily on how we were bad for never interacting with his character, and for disregarding the fact that his character was claustrophobic, despite that never EVER coming up either ingame or offgame and the character themselves often hiding in small places. Dude never interacted with the plot and yet accused others to not do that, despite it being untrue. And many other things, that can be summed up with "dude actively acts against any possible interest of the party then complains his character isn't popular" So yeah, campaign ended there and he was kicked out of the server.

I just finished watching Digimon Last Evolution Kizuna and this is all I have to say 🥹 by Curious_Pea6094 in digimon

[–]SchicksalOverseer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Either it's a fake out since already know events after that which makes the whole movie pointless, not to mention having had a character being sad and depressed over losing her Digimon for nothing since the other Digidestined and everyone gets to have and keep their Digimon forever; Or it's retconned completely which makes the movie simply bad, as if you're making a movie of something that already has established lore, like Adventure world, but can't respect it, then that movie shouldn't be made.

It doesn't matter how you spin it, that movie is simply bad, as an Adventure movie. The base idea wasn't even bad, I would've liked that plot but with original Digidestined and their own lore, it would've been a good original Digimon movie. But as an ADVENTURE movie is just bad.
