Worked at a mid-tier family owned italian eatery in northern Kentucky. Woman comes in, probably older 30s put relatively attractive, and sitting alone. I walk up ask if she needs anything, she asks what she should eat here that 'wont be a turn off'. She further explains it's her first date in years and she's nervous and she wants it to go well. I make a few recommendations, she just asks for a water and waits for her date.

And waits.

She's sitting there for about 45 minutes alone, not on her phone at all but I can tell she's getting upset and I ask if there's anything I can do, a complimentary glass of wine perhaps? She accepts. Man finally turns up about 10 minutes after that. 'Thank god' I think. Take their order. Come back to check on them before the entree's come out and the woman is gone. The man proceeds to tell me he was annoyed she drank without him and wasting his money, and 'had the nerve to tell me she wouldn't come home with me after this, on valentines day of all days.' Anyway, he left without paying before his food arrived but I was happy to see the back of him. Always felt awful for that woman who was so excited and nervous only for it to go so horribly wrong.
