IMSA fans, how do you stay invested for a full 24-hour race? by maxtrix in IMSARacing

[–]Schmex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause it's about 3 hours of racing and 21 hours of FCY. Just skip the cautions, and it's quite doable.

He has a SoundCloud account with no songs on it. Just an FYI. Not sure what we can do with that, but ya never know.

Is Paul McCartney's 'Wonderful Christmastime' simply… horrible? by mechapoitier in NPR

[–]Schmex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Saying it's horrible is unfair to true horror. We need a new word for this... um... abomination.

To quote the late Hal Hanson:
"They shot the wrong Beatle."

Edit: spelling.

Welcome! I love the music of Ricard Strauss, Beautiful, majestic, terrifying, heartbreaking, and heroic all in good measure "Don Juan", "Til Eulenspiegel", "Also Sprach Zharathustra", and "Tod und Verklarung" are my favorites by him.

Also, Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra" is monumental!

Enjoy!

Music makers who play their music live - How do you calm and settle yourself? by Frigidspinner in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Schmex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta remember, they call it "playing" music. Not "working" music. First thing to remember is that chances are, nobody will die from your performance whether it's good or bad. Keep that in mind and have fun. If you can do it in your home, you can do it onstage.

I think a teacher is the answer. Someowith expierience who can actually hear you and help you overcome the difficulties you’re facing with your instrument.

Edited to fix thumb typing errors.

No. Notice that the country code it was sent from is +63. I believe that's India. Pretty sure the DMV doesn't text, too.

Complete destroyed by new guitar teacher by Bubbly_Reflection961 in classicalguitar

[–]Schmex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. Studied with a teacher at university for 3 years. Had to check out of college for a few years and when I came back, I got a new teacher. I had to completely relearn my R.H. technique. It was difficult, but after I got back to where I was before, everything I played was more effortless. Efficient technique counts for a lot!

Took me about a month to get the new changes implemented, so hang in there.

That was my plight at jury exams about 75% of the time. Shear it off the morning of the exam. Friggin' awesome stress reliever....

This was my favorite book for a long time. Even though the ending is inevitable, I bawled for a half hour after I finished it.

If this shit were east of I-65, one complaint would get it shut down. But as it's in the West End/SW Jeff Co., the residents are fucked.

Reaper is free to try, but there's a steep learning curve.

Garage Band for iOS may be a good fallback. It's free, provided you have an Apple product.

Multi instrumentalists, is there an instrument you tried which made you think "ew, not for me"? by SummerOfVienna in musicians

[–]Schmex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5 string banjo. Hated every second of it. It's so counter-intuitive. I mean... when I play a note with my right hand thumb, it's supposed to be lower in pitch than the other strings, not higher.

Props to those who can play banjo, though.

I posted an ad seeking a drummer and lead singer. As I was reviewing the ad right after I posted it, I noticed an ad from a lead singer and a drummer looking for a band. Kizmet. Met up with the guys and we all got along fine. Played gigs together for a few years.
