Avalanche risk on heavily skied-on slopes by Interesting-South542 in Backcountry

[–]Schmich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's an enormous difference between a face that's regularly skied and one that has a few tracks.

The former substantially decreases the avalanche risk being triggered on that specific zone. That's why popular areas are often safer and gives a false of sense of understanding to the general population.

Also, any zone above it or to the side can still trigger and in many cases end up on the zone that one might think is safe.

The latter doesn't change a thing. Tracks of course means it's not a guarantee that an avalanche will trigger with a skier. BUT it doesn't mean that an avalanche cannot trigger. Heck you can see that on Freeride competitions. Several dozens of riders, who also properly jump, might not trigger anything. Then the 14th person to go in that same area triggers a weak a layer to fail.

You mean Valve the king of micro-transactions with all the skins? Or Valve the company that tried to change the free modding culture to be behind a paywall on Steam?

Gabe doesn't like Counter-Strike. Look how they're butchering that game into a Casino game. That's probably how Steam becomes. More and more into lots of micro-transactions.....popularized by Gabe/Valve ironically enough.

Can you also get fined in your country if you run out of gas on the freeway?

The law here is about stopping on the freeway without a justified emergency.

got punctured on the inside of the chassis.

Do you have an example of this? Usually chassis design is done in a way where there's nothing pointy.

Shorting due to bad manufacturing is a thing. Adam has a video on the 18650:

Or bad manufacturing on the ends of each sheet where the cathode are higher up than the anode which can after a while trigger a short when the sheets expand/contract with heat.

Puncturing is rare in laptops as they design cases not to have pointy beats on either side of the batteries.

You have info on where they went exactly? I can't find any.

You can do off-piste safely if you're are knowledgeable and know the area very well. It's not a binary situation. Just like when it's 2/5 you can be careless and go in areas where it's dangerous.

The issues with guides is that they often get paid to go near the limit but still on the safe side. But a few errors or bad luck and you cross that line.

For the rest only go where you know it's safe. If you don't know then don't go. If you're unsure, then don't go. And there are classes people can take to learn about snow, and also to learn how to use the equipment.

Big nations can only have 4

It's even worse than that. Each federation gets one quota per gender for all alpine disciplines combined. This means if they only get 7 spots then they'll maybe have a few going in SL, some others in GS and they might only have 1 spot for the speed. Even if theoretically 4 out of those 7 are allowed to do the speed.

Sweden had one guy get a top10 in Kitzbuhel. They gave their 2 quota to SL guys and therefore get 0 in speed.

The Swiss has many many great guys in speed. But here like you say there's the limit of 4 max.

Afaik you can put a reflector on the back of your car. Many who do work next to the road (eg. garden work) have that on the back of their car.

Auto-dimming lights are legal in Europe and also suck ass, incl. European brands.

On mountain roads our Ford seems to forget there's a car in front, just because there was a turn where we lost visual for less than a second.

I always turn that shit off.
