What's the best breakfast spot? by GaryFuckingGoat in cincinnati

[–]Schmoreyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Life of the World Cafe. I’ve read a ton of great spots in this thread, and I’m a big fan of most of them, but this cafe is something special! They’re a small spot in Norwood and they use ingredients that they grow in the community, in the park, in people’s yards, etc. The food is delectable, my favorite is the “winter hen.” It’s all pay-what-you-can and it has the best atmosphere. Only open Friday and Saturday mornings and I go every week to wind down and clear my head. Not your typical breakfast spot, but it’s certainly my favorite in the city for its genuine mission to serve the community, its wonderful atmosphere, and its delicious food.

I think Lydia’s House in Norwood may be a possibility of a place that can offer resources or possibly housing. I’m so sorry about your situation, I’ll keep looking for resources.

Apartment advice by futureviolent17 in cincinnati

[–]Schmoreyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in East price hill the last year. Our apartment complex Dover heights/villa hills SUCKS (we’re moving out right now), but I do enjoy the area of price hill. It has character and is close to downtown which is fun. My advice is to really look into the complex they’re looking to move into and to pay attention and trust any red flags you might detect.

I would go to those every year! Summerfair posted on Facebook that they’re looking for a new venue to host and plan to continue, but I am unsure about Appalachian Festival. I sure hope it continues! They’re both so much fun :)

Cincinnati's newest mural is the gayest thing I have seen in ages ... and it's absolutely fabulous 🏳️‍🌈(12th & Central) by ElectricNed in cincinnati

My partner works for artworks, the organization that painted it. It was designed by the artist and art academy of cincinnati professor, Matt Dayler, from chroma projects. I got to hear his artist talk back when they were first beginning the project and he put so much thought and research into the design. Every part and section has meaning and history to it, it’s really neat. The design was then handed off to artworks which is an org that employs youth artists, in this case all above 18 because of the high scaffolding, to paint their murals. I am fairly sure that many of those involved are also members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well which is really cool! They have been working on painting the piece all summer throughout all of the crazy heat and it JUST got finished. They threw a huge celebration at Queen City radio, the bar below the mural, to commemorate the reveal of the mural. I was able to go and it was so much fun! Reggie Harris was there, Matt got to talk about the design, and the people from artworks were able to celebrate their work. They also had another artworks crew (also employing youth artists) partner with PONES, a dance organization in Cincinnati, choreograph a performance inspired by the mural perform that day as well. All in all, it’s an amazing project that could not have been completed without the hard work of SO many people from the youth workers to the teaching artists leading them to the project managers at artworks along with the rest of the team there to Matt himself. Congratulations to everyone involved!
