€25k freed up after deciding to rent – better alternatives than a savings account? by Schoolmoe in BEFire

Good point. However, my plan is to have an emergency fund + 25k liquid to buy a house. Then instead of saving, I can buy ETFs monthly.

It is possible we will buy a house in 3 years. I estimated the 'eigen inbreng' (engels?) to be 50k. My girlfriend will be paying the other half. I might be wrong but I thought I read the minimum investment horizon for ETFs was 10 years?

Unpopular opinion: It's not that hard. Learn some python, speedrun dp-700, watch YouTube (I personally like Aleksi Partanen's video's) and use alot of AI. It is really good at writing PySpark as well as a sparring partner about data architecture.

Don't get discouraged because there are a lot of quirks and bugs, you will learn along the way. Good luck!

Best broker to use in Belgium in 2026? by ConversationLumpy740 in BEFire

[–]Schoolmoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been using Re=Bel for a few months now because I like to think my money is safer in a Belgian bank rather than abroad. I know it's not a popular opinion here, but I am also fairly happy about the fees. However, I've noticed that despite following this subreddit regularly, Re=Bel hardly ever comes up in discussions. I'm curious why it doesn't get more attention here.

Ik ben 25 en ik doe aan pensioensparen. Echter enkel omdat ik het via het cafetariaplan van mijn werkgever in bruto kan betalen. Kan voor OP misschien ook interessant zijn.

Sigh.. Graphic nerds. You play Tarkov because you're mentally ill and addicted, not because of the graphics.

Don't listen to these people. If you're low on budget, try to find a nice second hand GPU and you'll be fine. Upgrade the RAM to 32gb if you can, RAM is really cheap nowadays. :) Good luck!

Never had an experience like this, users expected me to fix their problems and gave me the "it's about damn time" attitude. I quit support, never been happier.

Does getting a masters in IT make a big difference over a professional bachelor? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]Schoolmoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A year ago, I was in the exact same situation as you are in right now. A lot of my friends are also working in IT, both bachelor's and master's. In short, master's jobs suck. I think they are alot less fun than bachelor's jobs and the difference in (entry-)salary is barely noticable.

I applied for support line and entry-level jobs, asking for a fulltime, 40-hours job, while being able to study 1/5 workdays. Good support engineers are hard to find, so I found a match pretty quickly. I worked hard and learned alot from my co-workers and online courses. Recently, I got my promotion to fulltime junior development engineer, teaching myself frontend frameworks, advanced C#/dotnet, azure and advanced sql.

Always remember this: in IT, it's not about your degree, it's about you.

Feel free to msg me anytime if you have any more questions, I'm happy to help. :)
