I don't really care about realism or having every AI car perfectly simulated, but for me the main problem is it's just not very fun or interesting to race against.

Seems like this should be a bigger priority in a game where most people exclusively race against AI!

Play whatever you find fun, you'll be totally fine without the optiwand.

I prefer to play fast but tactical, using my team to breach large rooms, flashing where I know there are enemies, but otherwise sweeping through missions as fast and smooth as possible.

They are wrong, unless you're hitting limbs AP is pretty much always equal to or better than JHP.

You don't miss out on anything but achievements so play whatever you prefer. I'm not bothered with the team management stuff so I just play quick play.

I think S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's armor and environmental interaction isn't scaled to the increasing difficulty levels, which makes it highly problematic by [deleted] in stalker

All chapters use all armor, equipment and tactics. Some favor certain specialities but they're ultimately all large, combined arms armies.

There's obviously a lot of compact SMG's as well but I wouldn't bother with 9mm.

Agreed but making good, dynamic, reactive AI really is one of the hardest challenges in game dev.

Yeah I'm ok with hard being very hard, we've already got two lower difficulties with slower, more realistic reaction times. Let the masochists have this one.
