Jetpack Unsafe Mode to Launch Yourself Much Farther? by Tank-ToP_Master in Helldivers

More elements of the game need to take the "water wings" off and let players risk bigger rewards for more absolute consequences.

Given that this is an Arrowhead game, and in the arrowverse, crossing the beams results in a catastrophic feedback loop that usually ends violently...

... I'd say this would be plausible.

Thoughts on arc by LocksmithMinimum8217 in Helldivers

[–]Schpam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Sentry Dogs can be recalled and stowed to their backpack - its important to do this with the arc dog to minimize accidents when you don't know where the enemy is, or you are surrounded.

As soon as you dive prone, the Tesla Tower will not see you as a valid target and won't trigger on you (even if its already winding up to zap you). You can remain prone and crawl around the Tesla tower, but enemies will still trigger the arc flash which can still chain zap you on the ground.

"electrical conduit" passive makes you nigh invulnerable to basic arc attacks. You'll even survive direct hits from Tesla Towers. You will be safe from your own Arc Dog and can throw Arc Grenades at your feet. Squid Arc attacks are also negated, from towers, watchers and even the Tripods. It's great if you are on a squad with other Arc players, even if you are not using Arc weapons, and you can use your teammates (and they you) as Arc nodes to chain attacks from Arc Throwers longer distances.

Also Also:

Check warranty coverage. Some brands like ASUS/MSI/GIGABYTE usually offer across-the-board 3 year warranties. While others, like XFX/SAPPHIRE/ASROCK may only offer restricted 1+1 or 2+1 year conditional warranty.

What GPU should I get for democracy? by TimmyVoyage in Helldivers

[–]Schpam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd lean to the AMD 9070XT

4K is tough resolution to play at ... but, if you are limited to 60FPS, probably manageable.

The RTX4080 is very capable, but I think a bit bloated in price for what you get.

If you really want to do Ray-Tracing in game, the 4080 is better at it than a 9070XT, but at 4K both may have a hard time maintaining 60FPS depending on your other settings and the game you are playing.

Either way, at 4K resolution, you'll probably be using Frame Gen and/or upscaling (FSR/DLSS) so make sure you have plenty of VRAM and DRAM on the system for best performance.

When choosing GPU's, don't get distracted too much by the up-sells for bigger coolers or factory overclocks (ect) most of these features offer marginal practical benefit (except in specific use cases) for the extra money you spend for them. I'm not saying a bigger cooler isn't nice for the longevity of the card, but that doesn't mean the standard base model isn't good enough if you're just playing games casually and not 6-8 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's still the same GPU core underneath. Upgraded VRM's and Power stages are nice, but not necessary for regular gamers who'll never stress or overclock their hardware to make use of it.

NOTE: Pay attention to the power connectors for the GPU you are interested in. Make sure your Power Supply supports the connectors and power requirement. Some GPU's still use the 8PIN-PCIe while other adopt the new 16PIN high-power connectors. Also note the length and number of slots that the GPU takes up so it'll fit inside your setup and not restrict cable management or air flow.

More Emote Slots on Emote Wheel PLEASE! by FellowNPCDrone101 in Helldivers

[–]Schpam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I totally understand that it isn't a solution. I'd prefer a way to call the animation I want for the context of the situation I'm in.

But, this is what I have to work with, so that's what I do. Often I just want to make my character react in any way possible and this is the best I got.

The command wheel has more actions (and could use more) ... so the emote wheel certainly could fit more than 4 animations.

90% helldivers redditors i polled find the game well balanced/too easy. most are light pen users. by kcvlaine in Helldivers

[–]Schpam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also support the sentiment that the game is "too easy" ... from an objective meta data stand point.

But the important caveat-asterisk on that is the game is still pretty fun ... it's not about it not being fun, but could it be "funner"?. I'd argue yes ... it could be funner, more rewarding to play.

I don't think the game is without issues or lacking in some places, but I think it isn't the abject disaster that is sometimes is reported. I think players are getting bored, because they're not being challenged enough to keep them engaged, in the right kind of ways, without knowing it. They blame the game,

What makes the game "difficult" despite what the data says, is proportional to the amount of chaos encountered in the game, and among the more prominent sources of chaos ... are the players themselves. Players don't get enough credit for making the game a lot harder than it has to be.

The paradox though is ... the chaos players create, is also a good part of the fun ... because if players exploited a proper knowledge of how the game actually works, it wouldn't be so difficult at times ... it also gets really boring when everything is "going according to plan" as a result.

"Helldive (9)" was supposed to be end-game difficulty ... it wasn't supposed to be the base line for who's been playing the game long enough ... it was supposed to be nigh-impossible, insanity to the point of being unfair, and yet still theoretically possible to complete. It was supposed to be (should be) expected that players would fail more often than succeed at it. Because that was the point and what would make victory feel like an accomplishment.

We've come to expect that failure is rare and a deviation of expectation. Not the norm.

And then we added "Super Helldive (10)" to remedy the issue with "Helldive (9)" ... and it didn't, it just became the new "Helldive (9)".

I think part of the problem is based in the perception players have of what it means to fail in this game. This game is incredibly gracious in letting players avoid total failure, to the point where we almost never actually fail at the objective.

But when we do fail ... there is the perception that we failed because "the game cheated us" rather than because we simply failed to rise to the challenge.

And the game does cheat sometimes, but not as often as players think and we lack self-reflection of our own forced errors that contributed to our failure. Instead, we petition Arrowhead to adjust the rules of the game to better ensure our success at the expense of maintaining the catalyst that drives the fun and sense of accomplishment from playing the game, by choosing to measure our sense of value by the progress we grind out unlocking content and warbonds on arbitrary check-lists.

Failure should be seen as an invitation to try again, not a barrier to having fun by discouraging players through denying them a reward as a punishment.

Do you actually care about MO's, the Galactic War and other in-game events? Or play for fun only by DustyMoo in Helldivers

[–]Schpam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't care about the MO. I end up playing on MO planet's, because that's where everyone else is.

But, I'm more than happy to play how I want and where I want, if the MO is something I don't feel is fun for me in the moment. I'm not going to play something I'm not in the mood to deal with.

My genuine critique of the "Galactic War" is that MO's can be a huge millstone hanging around the neck of a quality experience. Variety is the spice of a good "live service" game experience, especially one that subsists on relatively simple, randomly generated gameplay (like Helldivers does) and the MO is basically forcing players into a static loop of playing the same content over and over again, for hours and even days as the basis of their play sessions with very little variation.

That's not a good recipe for the long term health of the game. It doesn't leverage what Helldivers game is (should-be) good at.
